Benedikt Frey - Brainwashed

fka boursin is a DJ and producer out of Bristol, UK. 
Previously known as DJ Boursin, he is recognized for his deep, ambient-infused house music that explores political dimensions of clubs and identity politics.

Welcomed into the Scissor & Thread fold, fka boursin shares two cuts of deep and introspective electronic music. 

The original Listless Intertext is a hazy trip through ambient soundscapes, shuffling rhythms and half-caught conversations, drifting across a 12 minute run time that slowly evolves and shifts with time.  

"Listless Intertext is a track centred around the "failed" employment of cheap vocoder software that attempted to process explicit words and phrases across 11 minutes." says fka boursin. "Instead, the vocoder output made any words indecipherable and I was left with thematic vagueness. The final text of the track is simply a submission to its own limitations with some french thrown in."

When label bosses Frank & Tony step up for their Housebeat Dub, they keep the essential mood but introduce a thick, fat groove that works just as well in conveying the mood. 

"Our remix is a strictly dancefloor approach," says Frank, "an extended psychedelic beat rework perfect for late night, early morning vibes".

You hear a pulsating rhythm. What does it mean when the intensity rises? Is it the blood rushing from the sound of the drum that brings meaning or is it the anticipation of what’s next?

Kasra V’s returns to his budding V-sion imprint with its third installation. This latest offering brings us to the totality of physicality, where grooves and melodies do not require a resolution. The tracks bring to mind the unbridled maverick spirit of early Techno and Tribal House where the rulebook was tossed into flames and only the unfettered psyche remained.

Keeping the spirit of experimentation alive, Kasra’s affinity for manipulating samples and sounds in obscure ways shines through with playful nods to both industrial and early Midwest dance music alike.

Unchaining the shackles of where dance music has gone wrong, Kasra is trying to maintain the connection to a time when bodies moved to the beat religiously and held reverence only for the speaker stack.

The water ripples and shimmers as he swims into the sunlight: the trees cast shadows across the lake as his stroke quickens and he dives below the waves. He isn't entirely certain as to where he will swim, maybe the cliffs in the distance or the embankment beside the stepping stones, he smiles as he remembers it isn't about the conclusion of his dive but the motion of getting there... Ethyl & Flori have delivered a new three track EP of depth. It's immersive like the lake.

The wires in the laboratory were beggining to tighten as the sparks illuminated the darkened room. The experiment had been years in planning and many had struggled ferociously with their inner demons over the course of the project. The group of scientists had teetered on the edge of electronic breakdown so many times before but this was the closest that they had come to total catastophic failing. Would it work? 

Based in Brooklyn Chupacabras has found form on his tapes for Tutamen and his EP for Go Finger. He features on a split 12" with Brother Y and finds himself exploring elements of cosmic house.

A long morning had left Philippe scratching to connect the sum of the wired parts together, to string them into a semblance, a structure. Cables had been coupled, triggers synced, matrix mapped. He needed respite, some food, some wine, some space.

Cosmic blips and bleeps squeak as the moon glimmers. A pale beam of light glistens along the pier as the couple stroll towards the end, towards the water, those ocean waves calling out louder now in the moonlight than ever before. The tide brought them in and out. They gazed out towards the island which sat on the shimmering horizon, it was a silhoutte, an outline against the ocean expanse. Boats were leaving now and then, they would catch the next not knowing where it might take them, the risk was worth it all, they had heard the stories and it was time to leave.
