This planet has experienced things much worse than us. It has gone through earthquakes, volcanoes, continental plate movements, continental drift, solar flares, sunspots, magnetic storms, magnetic pole reversals, hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets, asteroids and meteors; global floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages ... And we think that some unfortunate plastic bags and aluminum cans will change something? The planet is not going anywhere! But we are yes.

When Laura (Ondula) makes jokes out of my kind of extravagant elegance, or about her elaborated saturday-night hair-style, she says that’s “macadam mambo”! When I first listened to her saying this I found it very appropriate.

Sacha Mambo, the man who together with Guillaume des Bois, started the notorious label Macadam Mambo, has been one of Diapason highlights. During the past years Sacha and me were part of the same international underground party scene and ended up putting out a couple of my most known releases, which preluded to the most recent EP “That’s when the Animals turned into humans” made with Laura under the name As Longitude and featuring Twoonky and Paul Arambula. If I remember well, Laura, Sacha and me made the agreement exactly in mid July 2018, in Berlin, just before the night at Sameheads began.

The recent lockdown forced Sameheads to cancel our latest two episodes. Shifting to this hidden virtuality, we want to keep the tradition alive and have reached out to some of our past guests and assembled a Diapason Compilation Tape Vol. 1 featuring new music from some of the artists who inspired us.

This mini LP is an explicit message from Lustpoderosa's sonic continuum. These 7 tracks show the deep connection of Marlene Starks' work as a writer and an artist to her role as mother and DJ in times when there is an urgent need to dismantle the patriarchy in our society and rave culture.
Marlene Stark is telling us much more than a great musical story with the symbolic title “Hyäne”. Marlene wants to direct our attention to a reviled creature while she reflects on its literary and symbolic meanings. Although hyenas live in a matriarchal society, its transmutation can be perceived as the ongoing struggle of the non-male body in an androcentric world view.
Marlene Starks reinterprets the figure of the hyena in a very poetic, self-ironical and honest way, as shown in the tracks ‘Hungry As a Hunter’, 'Hyäne’ and ‘Language Of Old Woman’. It's a neo-ceremonial call to rethink established structures without missing out the turbulent landscape of today's politics.
From early trip-hop to post-rave elements, Stark combines her sonic adventures with an impressively nonchalant and colloquial vocabulary. Her voice, as well as the voice of guest singer Stefanie Mader, achieves a remarkable vocal structure that goes beyond the mainstream.
This is the contemporary body music for the next generation.

Marlene Stark is a DJ, producer, author, artist and mother. She is a regular at the @Sameheads Club Berlin where she hosts her party called 'Superposition'.
In 2019, Marlene published her debut novel "M" with co-author Anna Gien at Matthes and Seitz. The book talks about the systematic oppression of women in capitalism and in the art scene while talking about Berlin, its music scene, djing, drugs, sexuality and Male Gaze.
Marlene's debut album 'Hyäne' is a continuation of her work. It’s a thoughtfully influenced and neo-ceremonial music that aspires to evoke body trance and the awakening of hysteria. Marlene Stark floods the dancefloor with rhythmic body music that is dark, courageous and vocal in a political and in a poetic way. The tracks are influenced by early Breakbeat, Downtempo, Trance and Acid, with hints of Trip Hop, Tribal, Psychedelic and Krautrock.

A thin, rocky, uneven pathway guided their way to the precipice; the finish line not visible without the assistance of the sun. They'd began their ascent shrouded in darkness in the hope of catching the sunrise when they reached the peak. Through billowing clouds they trekked until the end was in sight and the first glimpses of sunlight tipped over the horizon. Up here they felt invincible, as if they could reach out and touch the heavens... 

Following their inaugural outing from Mogambo, the project of label boss Sunju Hargan and multi-instrumentalist Jerom Doudet, Bangkok's Siamese Twins return for their sophomore release: a V/A cassette of soothing, spiritual and hypnotic electronics. Titled Vinyan (Thai for soul), the compilation features a host of artists from the East, including Son FM, Khun Fluff, Yandra Mandir and Que Sakamoto, who play their part in re-contextualising the contemporary parallels between live instruments, drones, house and tribal elements.

She pranced through what she considered the jungle; how could she know any different when this is all she knows. Gigantic structures towered above her, creating shadows in the mid-day sun. Lurking in the darkness, she patiently awaited her pray, using the shadows to hunt. She began to run through the forest of her imagination, the only difference being that this jungle is full of concrete, traffic and consumerism.

Parisian DJ collective, live band and producers Flegon have entrusted Khidja and Androo with the remix duties on their debut EP Extra Twist, released via their own Disques Flegon. Our pick from the Romanian duo Khidja sees them turn closing track ‘Double Play’ into the perfect soundtrack for an alien invasion. Focusing on slowly building tension through the use of dramatic delays, squelchy acid lines, and threatening bass lines creates a sonic narrative of a ferocious extra-terrestrial monster, while the sampled childlike vocals echoing in the background resemble humans being abducted.

Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge is the musical vehicle of Niklas Wandt and Joshua Gottmanns. They released a single – Ich verliebe mich nie – in 2018 and an EP entitled Leben in 2019 on the Düsseldorf label Themes For Great Cities. Now the time has come for the Berlin duo's long-awaited debut album. The 7 tracks comprising Der große Preis distil the inimitable NB sound which blends velvety synth-pop and crystalline digi-dub, basslines like cubes of glass and whiplash snares. The album title certainly lives up to its name: The Grand Prize. This is adventure time, from wild romance to petty crime – it's all waiting for you right here.
