Russian Dark Disco Syndicate Oberwave is back with another thrilling VA release to celebrate their anniversary. The volume 4 of their compilation series, as usual, gathers a plural concoction of skilled artists from different corners of our crazy and doomed world: Etane (St. Petersburg), Durand (Córdoba) (SXDNS079), Peaces (Jakarta), PVLOMO (Torreon) (SXDNS098), Ruksby (Moscow) (SXDNS256), and Хеrоsоrex (Milan) brought their characteristic soundscapes together and provided an interesting EP clad in darkness and lustiness.

The track we were solicited to premiere comes from the creative mind of Durand, whose previous works appeared on vital labels such as Nein, Esthétique, Logical, Factor City, and Latido. Combining his EBM, Industrial, and Electro influences, the Spanish producer, once again, showcases his production resourcefulness by delivering a hell of a track to the compilation.

“E.N.S.” roughly stands for “electronic NASA music” and carries an aggressive and intense atmosphere, full of elements that, together, trigger that wild desire of dancing to it loud in a packed and filthy basement somewhere/anywhere along with friends and strangers feeling that unique sensation of unity that only music provides. A bouncing bassline accompanied with trippy synth leads plus ominous vocal hooks (which are original NASA recordings combined with scream samples) result in a theme that, in our humble opinion, is one of the highlights of the EP.

In the most cosmic sense of the word, Rome Fortune is Atlanta’s newest star. Green-bearded and crop-topped, 6’5” in cowboy boots, he takes the stage like an eclipse and flips straighforward bars into lunar poetry. But even with such otherworldly swagger, Rome’s music connects with fans because of how powerfully (and sometimes painfully) human it really is. 

Jerome Raheem Fortune is the true story of this man who fell to earth. Rome’s Beautiful Pimp mixtapes (“rap as motivational speaking, generous and all-inclusive” - Pitchfork) and collaborations with everyone from turn-up trailblazers OG Maco and ILoveMakonnen to Four Tet and Toro Y Moi were merely the prelude to JRF’s nakedly honest storytelling. 

Over loose, dreamlike tracks from longtime collaborator Cubby, Rome gets extra real about his struggles: his parents, his children, and their mothers… his dreams, his demons, and the drugs that may be fueling both. Even Kaytranada produced single “Dance” is an outlier, an uptempo song about escape rather than elation. Yet nothing on Jerome Raheem Fortune is a drag; over the course of 11 potent tracks, Rome Fortune presents hip hop catharsis at its most compelling. Head towards the outer limits of rap with a guide who is intimately familiar.

We are happy to announce the debut EP Portuguese-Italian Vhyce. After his track „Back To Where I Never Was“ on a well received Lost Tapes Vol. 4, he is no stranger to the AEON camp anymore. Known from his releases on Catz N’ Dogz „Pets Recordings“, the young producer delivers a stunning 4 track EP with the title „These Words“.

Vhyce has a very characteristic sound design, which makes his simple and almost minimalistic, but catchy tunes so special; Though always trying to add something new to his repertoire. Like on the title track „These Words“ it was one of the first few attempts for him to sing some vocals on his own instrumentals. „While not being good at singing, I think it really set you free to be able to express your ideas yourself without relying on someone else understanding of your vision,“ he claims.

The track is built around an arpeggiated bass line oscillating between two sequences thats progressively build tension without being too obvious. The lyrics „These words have no meaning“ fell mysterious and open to interpretation. 
 
On the remix duty there’s no one less but „Chicken Lips“ legend Andrew, better known as The Emperor Machine. He stripped back the original to a more funky & grooving rework.  “The plan was to create something that keeps the same emotion as the original mix but still feels different enough without changing direction too much & I think I managed to achieve that”, Andrew says. And yes, what a musical masterpiece he delivered!

„Strive for Ego“ is an attempt to fuse „Can“ & „Neu!“ Krautrock influences into a club track“, says Vicente. Constantly driving forward, with perfect temper and timing to rise tension and built up energy Track title refers to the lyrics... „I’m nobody“.

„Old You“ has a more traditional Italo Disco feel. The „happy“ sounding bass line is counterbalanced with rough and psychedelic analog leads, reminding of traveling through time and space in a 80‘s Sci-Fi movie. The vocoded lyrics shall „refer to an hate-love relationship with your old you....Maybe because it „holds you“, Vhyce describes.
