For this @DarkScienceElectro premiere, we take a first listen to a track from a new label called @self-learning-system

Self Learning System present their very first record and deliver a new label focussing on conceptual work as well as interdisciplinary art in full effect. 

They believe in the human mind as a self-learning system - creators and originators connected all around the globe aiming to keep the scene alive. They want to cultivate a community and platform for exchange with other artists pursuing music, design, art, and events. 

Their first strike comes as “The Arrival Of Unisex & Ernst”, a split EP of the two label heads to introduce themselves and the sound of SLS. The record contains six analog hardware tools ranging from classic Electro to Industrial.

PREMIERE: DJ Unisex - No Escape (Self Learning System)

Rise of the Machines is the debut collaboration between two exciting new players in the electro scene - Erik Griffoen & Ben Evans aka The Droid, who have been forging new sounds across a multitude of heavy tracks over the past two years that have picked up strong radio support from Dave Clarke on White Noise, Ralph Lawson on Exit Planet Earth and Qamar Sol on Space is the Place, alongside plays from by ADT, Paul Hierophant, Damo B and Dexorcist.

ROTM features four tracks of cutting edge electro that transition from peak time in the club to moments of pure tripped out musical bliss, all delivered with expert production and sound design.

Kicking off the release comes the title track ‘Rise Of The Machines’, this quirky yet nuanced excursion sets the pace, allowing it’s nifty ricocheting sequences, slick 808s, and tripped out ear candy to hit the clubs. ‘Prisoners features a wiggly bass led jam, plastered with synths and finished with a dash of vocoded vocals.

Onto the flip side - ‘Room And Pillar’ grabs the bull by the horns with a tough and aggressive bass line driven banger. Shrieking, twisted synth lines and FX are shattered across the track, keeping tension levels peaking, while TR808 rhythms cut through with military precision. Contrasting ‘The Neutral Zone’ sucks us into a deep atmospheric orbit of blissful yet inquisitive FM synthesis, distant emotive pads, fortified by warm stately bass tones.

They both loved getting what they wanted, the answer 'no' didn't exist and, no matter how much time passed, they'd never accept it. What made matters worse was that they were so alike in their own over-inflated sense of self-worth that they clashed on every little thing. Now there was nothing wrong with a little healthy rivalry but this one had the potential to lead to fireworks. 

A passion for full throttle electro and breaks is the driving force for Generali Minerali's productions. A resident at Drama Bar and Tes Club, he's a central figure in Tbilisi's electronic music scene, furnishing him with the knowledge of what can send the dance floor into a frenzy. That's exactly what the tracks on his new release for LBR Records are primed to do. Unsurprisingly Pumpkins Are Always Sad is made up of fierce electro rhythms, analog synth lines and a hefty dose of breakbeats, backed up by a remix from Dutch producer and Panorama Bar resident Steffi.

South London based Electro act, Steven Allman, returns to Avoidant for his debut release with the label, the Abductors EP. Having cut his teeth on the London electro scene with his event Scan (run in conjunction with Sync 24) he recently appeared on the acclaimed Dark Planet VA back in 2021. With his first full release on Avoidant, Allman brings his unique take on Electro with a poised and balanced 4 tracker.

Title track track Abuctors is a fast paced and sci fi leaning affair complete with twisted vocals and mind bending synth work. Jam The Freq continues the attitude but brings a more ominous and darker sound and high definition drums patterns burst across a flurry of buzzing bass. Pushing roper Electro Funk is Senses that bounces through and showcases Allman’s classy sound design. Master Future closes out the EP with deep rooted 808 drum work, extra terrestrial computer controlled hooks and synth work and unique retrograde vocals.

The notorious Glasgow producer, Fear-E is back on Hilltown Disco, after originally appearing on the Dundee imprint in 2019, this time with 4 tracks of techno-infused electro, plus a dance-floor geared remix on the A-side from one of the original Hilltown Disco collectives, J Wax.

Fear-E runs wild, broadcasting apocalyptical electro sounds, creating a seriously heavy-duty record to soundtrack the end of society in worlds not too dissimilar to earth. Punchy kicks, disturbing vocals from the mystical Mike James, and venomous sirens create a fresh take on the sound.

No nonsense electro.
