Aspetuck - Distant Messenger EP [afin47]

He walked atop the padded floor across the gym, taking in the uncomfortable stares and awkward glares from onlookers. The machines rattled, raced and echoed as people pushed their bodies to the limit, testing their endurance and strength. The room was hot, the heat reverberated between dense writhing figures and soon too he would feel just as phased by the dizzying warmth. Now as he approached his station he began to move and sway, for his workout, his routine was a dance. 

Escape Artist is a producer we've kept a close eye on over the years, having released a number of tracks which have caught our ears. The Australian producers latest appearance is on a compilation by Truth, a sprawling affair which features cutting edge electronics and material for the dance.

Boredom had set in, she'd been on the end of the line for what felt like eternity. Her fingers felt course from drumming on the table for so long; willing the time away so she could begin her life again. The music chirped loudly in her ear, the same snippet played on loop over and over and over again. Would she lose her mind waiting for an answer?

Set up to highlight the sounds coming out of their home of Los Angeles, Let's Play House's Nik Mercer and a fellow LA native have launched Zen 2000, an imprint that will platform friends and family who bear a deep connection to the Californian city. First up is a two tracker from House Of Ho, that sits somewhere between Hong Kong and the City of Angels, both sonically and in its origin, having been written, recorded and produced between the two locations.

They floated overhead, hovering above the water below. Boats moved beneath their shadows taking passengers from place to place, the Aegean clouds simply watched on. The air was warm that afternoon, there was a thick humidity to it and despite them being far out at sea it was still dense and claustrophobic at times. Thankfully the waves rolled gently beneath them for had they been wild and furious the whole experience might have been something else entirely. Soon they would be back on dry land, soon they would be home. 

Gilbert is set to release a new EP on Echocentric Records, the Bristol based producer has fired up his machines for an analogue affair channeling house and electro sounds throughout. Due for release on the 13th of August this one comes recommended.

Canadian born and Naarm (Melbourne) based Jennifer Loveless returns one year on from her debut release Hard/Soft (Pure Space Records) with Water, a 12” EP presented by Butter Sessions. Bestowing us with five tracks of dystopian dance-floor thump, Water is a bustling showcase of Jenn's breadth as an artist. Reflecting on the contrast of Water with her first EP, Loveless comments “I wanted a hard contrast to the Hard/Soft release. I always had a plan to release an energetic frivolous fun type EP after Hard/Soft. I had a feeling people might see me as an ambient producer (although I wouldn’t really categorise Hard/Soft as that), and I guess this EP, Water, is my response”.
