DÔME, French label curated by Astropolis and incubator for young talents from Northwest France (Brittany, Normandy, Loire) is releasing a new various EP to celebrate the next Astropolis Winter Edition between mental techno (Opäk), uplifting groove and soulful sonics (Daïf, Saint Misère) and a festive neo trance / ragga crossover (Valise). 4 tracks that reflect the new face of the French electronic music scene, for a dancefloor gathering plural aesthetics!

Daïf, Luminære label boss and a regular on the international scene, opens the EP with 'Summit Light', a disco and house anthem radiating good energy and positive celebration, with a luminous groove in a cosmic atmosphere. A breath of fresh air!

With 'Closer', the dj/producer Saint Misère synthesizes many of her influences, offering a club track with a catchy bleeping melody and haunting vocals, a melancholic groove, percussive rhythmics and raw and energizing basslines.

Opäk plunges us into the darkness of the night with 'Warm Us', moving towards a new, more hypnotic and cerebral universe, with a hybrid of industrial and cinematic sounds. Modern techno that is both minimalist and complex, shivering, metallic and immersive.

Rennes-based duo Valise closes the EP with the crisp banger 'Ragga Moustache', which, like their dj sets, crosses influences with a blend of neo trance, progressive house and ragga vocals. Burning rhythms and magnetic heat to set the crowd ablaze.

For the first Klasse Wrecks release of 2024, the label looks back to 2020 and a previously digital only track from label co-owner Mr. Ho. During the first lockdown of covid Mr. Ho released '000Baby' as part of the digital 'Homeboys' EP alongside Luca Lozano. An alternative version popped up on the 'Michaelsoft' album in 2021 but the much lauded original has never seen the light of day on wax....until now. The first 10inch on Klasse Wrecks also features a suped and sped up interpretation from Om Unit, who expertly increases the pressure with deft 808 bass subs, a half time swagger and dubbed out atmospherics.

Tom Trago is returning to his roots with a new series of club-focused EPs full to bursting with tried-and-tested tracks that recall the disco-sampling rush and release of some of his biggest dancefloor hits.

The ‘Pearls for Pleasure’ series sees the Dutch artist dip into his vast archive of previously unreleased “secret weapons” – cuts made at different points over the last decade which have been doing the business in his DJ sets, and more recently those of his closest musical confidantes and collaborators.

The music showcased on the series will feel familiar – despite its’ previously unreleased nature – for those who have followed Trago’s career since he made his debut on Amsterdam institution Rush Hour in 2006. While the Voyage Direct, TT and JNL label founder’s musical output has evolved and expanded considerably since then – taking in multiple albums, countless collaborations and aural explorations that stretch beyond the dancefloor – some of his greatest hits, most notably timeless summer anthem ‘Use Me Again’, blur the boundaries between disco, house, and his love of colourful synths and kaleidoscopic electronics.

‘Pearls for Pleasure Vol. 1’, which will appear on Tom Trago’s own TT imprint, offers a sweet and potent taste of what’s to come across the series. Sparkling and stunningly summery opener ‘Hotballs FM’ sets the tone, with the former Trouw and De School resident wrapping silky disco strings, rubbery bass, starry synths and heady vocal snippets around a hot-stepping, swing-soaked rhythm.

The energy levels lift on ‘All Right’, where Trago expertly works a handful of tight, chopped-up disco loops in classic tease-and-release fashion before he doffs a cap to his love of electrofunk and boogie on the colourful and pulsating ‘Take a Chance’. Another peak-time treat that builds in waves, the track impressively updates a little-known dollar bin gem for 21 st century dancefloors. Like the rest of ‘Pearls for Pleasure Vol. 1’, the track sounds like a summer anthem in the making.

Now on the cusp of its twenty-second release, the Istanbul-based imprint @Oathy prepare to release the six-track 'Fracture' EP - courtesy of Dublin-based duo Rob Roche and Tim Nolan, better known as @longislandsoundeire.

Zopelar returns to Tartelet with Ritmo Freak, an electric eight-track album from the beating heart of the Brazilian underground, out May 10.

In a flurry of madcap sampling pitched towards the heat of the night, Pedro Zopelar builds on the premise of his 2022 electro-funk love letter Charme, shifting his approach towards a particular 90s flair and a method with a specific end result.

Ritmo Freak took root in studio experiments for a momentous — and rare — live set at São Paulo festival Não Existe in 2023, where Zopelar was caught up in one of those right-place, right-time moments we carry with us through life. As he explains himself:

“This album is dedicated to freaky club culture. While I was playing at the festival there was a crazy tropical storm outside and the room was packed with the freakiest crowd. I've tried hard to immortalize that feeling on this record."

With the intended energy in mind, Zopelar focused on a particular mode of production centred around 12-bit sampling from his ample record collection.

Considering his background as a trained pianist, here his musical instincts are forced to work within the limitations of short, snappy cuts from dusty 12”s. The lo-fi sound sources and the resourceful ways Zopelar works them gives the record an unmistakable old-skool flavour which he applies to forthright house, techno and electro funk rhythms, always taking care to draw out the soul of the music.

The stylistic touchstones flow past thick and fast on Ritmo Freak. From the amped up fierceness of the title track with its gaudy, cut n’ paste, vintage techno flavour to the effervescent electro funk of ‘Gabriellinha’s Boogie’ on to the surreal Balearic inversion of ‘Distraction’, this is a high-velocity, endlessly charming record bursting with the musicality Zopelar has made his name on.

As the driving force behind many warehouse parties in São Paulo, Zopelar has been immersed in club culture for a long time, and his distinctive catalogue of jazz, funk, acid and techno has graced highly respected labels like Apron, Selva Discos and Mother Tongue. Throughout, he’s displayed an affinity for the tangled roots of the groove with an open-eared, big-hearted sound. That’s what comes through on Ritmo Freak — a record as infectious as it is well- informed.
