Last year David contributed his epic 'Dream Terran' to our Free Download Series. After putting this out we asked if he would be keen on putting together a New Beat inspired mix for this series and here it is...

This 2 hour recording is a mix of New Beat, New Wave, Disco / Not Disco and Synth Pop. It feels quite special to us, as it is the sound we would regularly hear early doors at David's TEAK parties. In fact, listening to this mix we both immediately said how it felt like walking downstairs into TEAKS home - The Jacobs Antique Market Basement.

It was through attending these parties that much of our musical taste was shaped, and still today we regularly reminisce about some of the sets we witnessed at TEAK. So it feels great to finally have David representing the crew on our Podcast Series with a typically distinctive set.

INIT - Rock The Boat

After a string of successful singles on lauded international dance labels - including Bahnsteig 23 & Love on the Rocks - Etbonz makes his full length debut. Ten cinematic dance capers clocking in at 84 minutes - Power On is a psychedelic smorgasbord filled with action, adventure, and some really trippy clam chowder. From the sanguine & driven “Surfing for Blood” to the solemn azure eyes of “Only One for Phil” every track has a story to tell. From cascading acid-sweat in the ecstatic cosmic warmth of “Love Scene” to the shimmering sapphire techno hubris of “Interactive Cat Goes Hollywood” there is intergalactic gold in every juiced kick. Each side is rounded out by a defining version of Blazed Delay - an evolving epic that will have you unlocking secret dancefloor levels.

By day a dental technician and carvery chef, by night a purveyor of addictive electronics and hypnotic techno, DJ, producer and label boss Beigean is something of a jack of all trades.

When he's not spreading the gospel about gum health, he's crafting house-driven productions for the likes of Hungarian Hot Wax and Jon Loveless' Hot Concept, as well as his own Tava Discs imprint, launched in 2018 as a platform for house and techno offerings that celebrate the heritage of their makers.

More recently he's contributed a remix for our own Ransom Note Records, putting a hypnotic spin on Bawrut and Chico Blanco's 'Triangulo De Amor Bizzaro', which you'll be able to wrap your ears round very soon. 

Before that (and several other releases he's got penned this year) he take the reigns for this week's Shine A Light On mix. Take your lunch break, clear a rather large space in your room and get your limbs moving.

Tecwaa is no newcomer in the Höga Nord-roster. He has already made two appearances on the label with an album and a single. This, his third release on the label is another 7” containing pure, high quality Left-field and Slow-disco.

The sound in Tecwaa’s music might be explained partly by his geographic position. Being based in York the sound is not as predictable as it might have been if the music was produced in one of the country’s larger cities. It holds a lot of influences found in, say Manchester and London, but still the music holds a contrasting quality with equal parts of freedom and melancholy resounding in the tracks. And the result is unique and beautiful: Airy and free-floating piano drills, dub effects from space and ghost-choruses recorded from secret rooms inside York’s Minister give the electronic sound an organic feel. The melancholy is more of an eerie feeling hiding beneath it all – maybe the case for most DJs living through these times.

Still the show goes on and on and with Tecwaa staying productive and keeping top premium music alive, all the messed-up kids missing life in the clubs get their share while in this hiatus.

PREMIERE: Tecwaa - Those Collective Dreams [HÖGA NORD RECORDS]

In May 2019, I recorded an album at a Kogis' (Kagabas*) village, in the Sierra Nevada mountain of Santa Marta in Colombia. Kagabas are indigenous people who consider themselves to be the guardians of the Earth and are concerned by the modern world's attempts to destroy it. The mountain - in Colombia - is their home, it is quite literally a microcosm, a mirror of the planet in which every ecological zone is represented. The damaging lifestyles which stems from the capitalistic dogma are affecting their environment and from their vantage point on the mountain they can see how this is straining the
rest of the planet. Singing is a staple feature of the Kagabas culture, it is considered as a way to connect with the environment. There are for example a song of the monkey, of the deer, snake, laughing or even death - singing is a way for the Kagabas to feel safe around these animals and concepts and to live peacefully among them without fear and without the need to chase them away. As there's no
writing, music and singing are a way to pass memory, knowledge and awareness down through generations. The ongoing ecological disaster, the uncertainty of the current times and the temptation for many of the youths to leave the mountains for the big city life make this transmission issue all the more critical. As we exchanged prior to my visit and while I was there, the recording and sharing of these songs was a recurring topic and we agreed to have singing at the core of this musical project. I was welcomed to spend a week within their community to record this album. I spent most of the time there with the Máma of the village (Mámas are spiritual and intellectual guides that keep the memory of the civilization) and his son Camilo, with help from Franz who has been working with the Kagabas for about 15 years now as part of the Native organization which he runs. This album combines songs, field recordings of the village and of its surrounding nature, as well as musical compositions I made in my studio. They liked the result and approved this album to be released. Fully aware of the responsibility the Kagabas have entrusted me with, I've decided to self release this album and will give all the benefits to the Nativa organization to support its fight for the replanting of trees and getting land back. * Widely known as « Kogis », the name they were given to by the « civilised man », they actually call themselves « Kagaba ».

Gone Gold is the second album from Herrmann Kristoffersen, aka Daniel Herrmann (Flug 8) and Kristina Kristoffersen. Mastered by Jörn Elling Wuttke (The Primitive Painter) it is inspired by the world of gaming and the idea of composing an imaginary soundtrack for the classic racing video game Need for Speed, but in their unique style - kosmische techno, ambient soundscapes and gauzy electronica.

Creating an imaginary soundtrack for a game and working apart due to Covid-imposed travel restrictions, it was logical that the couple would use the shortcuts from the gamers’ world to communicate with each other. Every title on the album represents an aspect of that, providing an insight into how to interpret the song, creating your own online gaming world while listening. First up is the album’s opening track - the early-Autechre/AI machine-funk stylings of 1LC (One Life Clear: playing through a video game from start to finish without ever losing a life).
