After his debut LP ‘Temmuz’, released at the beginning of last year, Houschyar is back on Macadam Mambo with his new album: a less danceable but more personal opus. Being locked up on the rooftops of Istanbul, Houschyar repurposed a satellite dish, making use of its perfectly round and concave shape to create strange metallic-sounding percussive loops which he painted with sonic atmospheres that contained diverse shades of blue. ‘Mavi’ is an introspective pallet of emotions condensed into 7 hybrid compositions highly improvised which divagate into a very jazzy modern state of mind, jamming with pianos, electronic organs and rhythm boxes to produce another type of spiritual music that sounds absolutely timeless. In a very prolific year - with his release with DJ Sofa and Okay Temiz on Music from Memory and the initial EP of Raphael Kosmos’ newborn label Späti Records -, Marius Houschyar leaves no doubt about the level of his talent and him being part of a new generation of artists to keep a close eye on. I decided to release this little piece that has been laying around for quite some time. � - Marius Houschyar
"One day in May 2021 I had the idea to compose a few pieces using only a cheap plastic workstation my neighbour had given me because it was just standing around. Besides some subtle field recordings of a warm summer day on a green meadow, all sounds came from the samples of this little keyboard. �
'One Day In May' happened on the 23.05.21 and reflects of the lightness and beauty such a Sunday can have. Sometimes one can still feel melancholic on such a day, even if one sees the birds flying through the blue sky and the warm rays of the sun touch one's face. This little lullaby for lazy afternoons is quite important to me as it reflects on both sides, the open bright space of light and the dark room inside of us."

There is so much I could tell about our time in Kahramanmaras, but it always has been actually difficult to explain to others what we experienced there.  Still, I would like to share one tiny piece of it: A recording I made during the second week after the earthquake on the schoolyard of Sümer Ortaokulu, that has been selected as part of the French Pavilion for the XVIII Venice International Architecture Biennale 2023, for the project “Radio Utopia - News from the World” .

"The piece ‘Tozdan ilk alıntı is a tiny excerpt from the life on a small schoolyard in Kahramanmaras, Turkey, where an entire community is living in tents as a result of the devastating earthquakes of February. As part of the spontaneously formed ‘to-it together’ aid collective KAF, which has been supporting the local community since the first days after the disaster, the artist had the opportunity to collect footage and extract pieces of a shattered reality that is being transformed into something new. The recording contains conversations with children, beginning with 6-year-old Mohammed singing a Syrian song, before descending into a dreamy organ loop telling of rain, mud and the smell of burning wood. A little note from Sümer Mahallesi, Kahramanmaras through Istanbul into the world.”

The sun was setting on the boulevard as he prepared to line up for the last run of the day. He was tired and beaten, his feet were weary and he struggled to rally himself to the forefront to repeat the process. 

Most of the other skaters had headed home for the evening having succumbed to the dense warmth of the midsummer sun. 

He began to roll, moving slowly forwards before kicking up speed. 

This was it, as he weaved between the cracks and bumps in the direction of the slope. Then he kicked out, airwalk to fakie and land. 

The day was done.

Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is, and has been, encroaching upon our world for years now & it all seems to be coming to a head... With this A.I. EP from Detroit electronic music veteran, Thomas Barnett, this new technology hasn't been lost, but instead of "intelligence" Barnett flipped it to "ignorance" to try to inject a little light-hearted humor into this hotly debated topic. With 4 new tracks on this EP no actual A.I. was used, but with titles like "Artificial Ignorance", "Data Mining", "Firewall", & "Cloud Based Funk" it doesn't take long to realize there is a theme going on here, that theme is pumpin’ bass, rapid hi-hats, quick drops, & frenetic energy.

This digital release will be available everywhere for downloads & streaming on May 10th, 2024, just in time for the upcoming, busy Summer. Coming up also this Summer season will be Barnett's follow up to the A.I. EP with his “Dragons” release with floor-filling remixes from Ecilo, Gunjack, & Barnett. This Summer will also see a handful of remixes that Barnett did for other artists like CloudMasterWeed, DJ Mourad, & Biblical Proportion. So it definitely looks like this is going to be a busy 2024… we will be looking forward to seeing you on the dance-floor.

Hailing from Frankfurt & Leipzig, Carsten & Lucas have amassed a gorgeous catalogue of music that incorporates the ethereality of Trance combined with the gritty, heads-down feeling of classic Acid House and Breakbeat. Their latest EP Source Transformation lands on Faux Poly this Spring.

This release showcases the artists inherent flair for treading the line between delicately uplifting melodies and rattling heavy bass. Each track conjures up a beautifully atmospheric future-acid world that is a dream to get lost in.

We started producing this EP in the late summer of 2023 in which some of our project’s biggest releases had dropped. Seeking for a way to stick to our signature sound without repeating ourselves we aimed for new grooves and patterns to combine with our sound sphere. The first three tracks of the EP were produced within one month, while Astral Surge was a few months older and happened to be rearranged to fit into the overall vibe of the EP. When Joe and Warren reached out to us to work with them on a Faux Poly project we had a feeling that these would be the tracks that could make an EP. We’re even more glad the feeling was mutual.

The night was young. As she stood in the radiant heat of the sun in the early evening she was cautiously excited for the night which would soon unfold. This had been a long time coming, they had waited all summer to let loose and now it all seemed perilously close and real. Earlier that day they had travelled out of town, into the countryside, where the wild creatures lived and the night was truly dark. It would be here that she would find herself, lurking between the trees, at one with nature and the echo of drums. This was to be her space ritual.

This one has been a long time coming but we are delighted to see that the Space Ritual team have managed to push this one out. A new split EP featuring weight and prowess, destined for the dancefloors whenever or wherever they may be.
