As the clock struck 3am, she jolted out of bed. Something in her dream had pulled her from a deep slumber, but what exactly she couldn't recall. The fragments had already ebbed away as soon as waking life took hold. It was the height of summer but the room was freezing cold, as though a thick gust of wind had entered through an open window. But all the windows were sealed shut; and her breath in the cold air the only visible draught.

You won't catch Kalahari Oyster Cult taking their foot off the gas anytime soon; this year alone has already seen them share an influx of top level releases, from B'Zircon (the project of Roza Terenzi and Fantastic Man) to a seminal '93 EP from Helium and a collection of tracks from Dominic Glynn under his many guises. Consistently straddling the past and the present, the label's next instalment focuses on the latter and Newcastle-born, Berlin-based producer Junes. Consisting of three original cuts, and a remix from Help Rec. boss Central, 'Shifting Sands' boasts Junes' signature elegant electronics with a dose of stripped back tech and bass rhythms.

EYA returns with another four-artist VA mining the outer reaches of trance and electro from
110–140bpm. We lift off with a throbbing slow-burner from mid-90s Danish duo UFO, whose ‘Make
It Light’ was previously only available on limited CD. Things accelerate on ‘Out Of Touch’, the latest
in a line of shimmering dancefloor missiles from Sohrab. On the flip, DJ N4 falls fully into a trance on
‘Bio Aggregation’, with vocalisations, acid lines and organic percussion all driving us to warp speed.
‘Bad Weather’ by French electro wiz Fasme completes the trip, a craftily mutating electro-meets-prog
epic whose beautiful outro will see you home safely. Enjoy the ride.

For the 17th release on our label, Naarm-based DJ/producer Solar Suite (@solarsuite) explores the playful liminality of dusk and dawn, taking locked grooves and prog sounds as the tools to transform the strange into something exhilarating. 

‘Clear Skies’ comprises 3 high-nrg club-ready tracks and 2 slow chuggers to balance out the up-tempo rhythms, all with dedicated circumstances to be plucked out from record bags and presented to a willing crowd. The only question left: what occasions personal to the selector will they rear their heads?

A man of many aliases and jack of as many trades, Dominic Glynn aka Syzygy (together with Justin McKay) aka Zentik aka Fluid aka Mind Control aka Luke Warmwater resurfaces from the sunken slumber of years to re-establish his name as a much unsung artisan and key exponent of the UK electronic scene’s heyday.

Two unreleased tracks and another two enhanced re-edits compose the “Tri-Phase” EP here presented - each cut making for a snapshot of Glynn’s fast evolution as an electronic music producer, a career he was then running in parallel to his day work for the BBC including all-time TV classic series Doctor Who.

Starting with the yet unheard ‘Little Pieces of Love’, Syzygy provides us with a dynamic trancey roller that does the splits between hectic 303-riddled leads, catchy vocal hooks sheer old-school style and generously layered FXs extending the scope to further horizon-clearing soulfulness.

Drawing towards more muscular, club-ready techno linearity, ‘Luminous 4AM’ reveals an explosive combo of driving momentum, melodic richness and high-impact bass engineering, tailored to take the rave to a whole other level of consciousness. No-holds-barred floor weaponry set for tearaway peak-time ops.

Initially released on No Bones in the 90s, the other two cuts ‘And It’s Wonderful’ as Luke Warmwater and ’The Man With Three Heads’ as Fluid boast a distinct style. Whilst the first rushes us headfirst into a bumpy maelstrom of chromed techno fitted with an array of acid-drenched attributes and Chicagoan piano tropes, the latter has us zoning out to a playful reverie of trip-hop-laced, ambientoid jazz-house.
