Golden Flames (the last summer game)

Marching through the tropical forest there was very little to do but to sigh begrudgingly and embrace the heat. In spite of the ridiculous temperatures there was a pleasant breeze blowing softly between the deep green leaves. They were marching onwards and upwards in search of the blue lagoon, a mythical break point amidst the trees which would guarantee happiness and a decent night's rest. Until then they would continue to dance and weave amidst the toweing giants. 

K2 is a producer you may or may not be familiar with. An alias of sorts for a mystery man who is very much in demand at the moment. He delivers two edits for Version Galore.

Suuuuuuuuuuper proud and happy to present you my next 12" via Lumberjacks in Hell that's out today!!! As maybe Mendel and Adrien will be able to testify I have been struggling with BROWN CURLS (performed by Khalil Anthony) for a couple of years, as I always had something that egged me about it. I dont see myself as a perfectionist but there is a certain line that mustn't be crossed . So it might come as no surprise that my favourite (released) version is actually not by myself but the restless genius Patchworks who transformed it into a perfect boogie bomb!!! Try it, it will work 100% !!!
But that's not even the title track! The EP is called IF YOU LIKE , hey? The track has been around just as long as the beginning of Brown Curls really and started as a remix, that morphed and morphed and morphed into what it is now, my take on a Afro-Boogie track. Thanks to everyone involved foremost Jan van Mastrigt on Bass, Derek van Beelen on Drums, Jair Wix on Guitar and Tim Jules on Keys.

Meet Me On The Corner is taken from the album ‘Orange Whip’ which was BBC 6 Music’s Album of The Day on its release.  It follows previous singles ‘Whatever You Do’ and ‘Sinner’, supported by Craig Charles, Tom Ravenscroft and Huey Morgan. The song showcases ‘Honeyfeet’ at their funkiest. A pounding beat beefed up by bass, guitar and brass, propels forward while ‘Ríoghnach Connolly’ (pronounced Rainer) sings lyrics that could be straight out of the playground, but suggest something a little deeper.

Remixes on this more foot friendly single come courtesy of homegrown legends of funky house music, ‘Crazy P’ with both vocal and dub versions. Turning Honeyfeet’s latest opus into a straight up soulful disco monster by ‘Hot Toddy’ and ‘Ron Basejam’, with Rioghnach’s rasping vocals playfully meandering over crisp beats and trademark live bass.   Much hyped Russian production don ‘I Gemin’ delivers his take still aimed at the dance floor, but a deeper house affair based around jazzy keys and chopped up vocals that take the song into more sonorous territories.

As a bonus the 12” package features the acclaimed remix of previous single ‘Sinner’ courtesy of  Polish Innocent Sorceror ‘Envee’.  His shuffling, moody take only previously being available on 7inch vinyl via a super limited (and now impossible to find) release late last year.

For the last couple of years Honeyfeet (whose name comes from a line in the Blues Brothers film) have been a conduit for the ideas and expressions of an exotic mixture of Manchester based musicians. This genre-defying band incorporate styles including jazz, folk and hip hop into their Music.

Title track Jambon-Beurre sees Sweet Fruity Brunch and Selva join forces for some twisted, dusty, disco-house filled with clever edits, funk fingered bass lines and a huge strings & horns riff that really creates a high energy peak time track.

Sweet Fruity Brunch goes solo for Shelby Le Hibou (Shelby the Owl) and provides more disco-led deep house with vintage keys, wah guitars and vocal edits intricately coming together for another dancefloor ready number.

Up and coming Mexican producer Selva makes his solo label debut with Mezcal to finish off the EP. Jazz loops meet hip-hop vocal edits and skippy percussion for a deeper, groove-heavy & unique finish to the EP.

A few months after the release of the first reference of his own imprint 'Night Shift Records' and after selling all the stock quickly, Madrid DJ and producer Javi Frias is back again with the second EP on his label. During this time he was number 1 sales at Juno with his first 7" on Disco Pocho and got a big success with his edit of Susana Estrada classic 'Quitate El Sosten'.

This time he's back to the razor blade to deliver a four track 12"" entitled 'Move To The Groove', keeping the spirit of classic editing art in good shape. The EP includes four songs that have never been edited before, wisely chosen from among those hidden gems that surely needs some light and love. On the A side we have 'Tender Feeling', an amazing groove based on a soulful sample over a disco house rhythm with perfect vocal harmonies, and 'Move To The Groove', the perfect example of a dancefloor tune, furious disco funk full of horns and percussion.AThe B side starts with 'Supah Stah', classic disco sound with a wonderful female vocals and strong rhythm section plenty of breakdowns and funky basslines. The EP ends with 'Swahili Dance', and obscure afro disco tune retouched and extended for the maximum dancefloor pleasure.

Javi Frias - Tender Feeling [Night Shift Records]

Apparel Music is the platform, Chevals the protagonist, vinyl the material, end of March is the period of time decided for the landing of the Frenchman’s first solo body of work for the “lovers dogs” label. “Be Yourself” is the title of the four tracks EP by the artist which, by the headline itself, sounds like a declaration of intentions, an acknowledgement of his qualities as a producer, shaping up four different aspects of his creative attitude in a remarkable musical effort.
The EP takes off with the title track which is a perfect display of @chevals-583439791’s capabilities when it comes to the art of developing intersecting harmonies and melodies, setting up the perfect ground for a smooth vocal line that keeps on repeating the concept in a hypnotic loop: “just be yourself”!
With “Keep On” the Bpm increases to design a beat driven track that winks to northern European rhythmics in an apotheosis of upbeat acid lines, a vibey overlapping of loops we advise against light-sleepers!
Side B starts with a more rhythmically classic composition called “Good Good” which is also the last of the three original tracks; here the strings section mashes up with the vocals, as usual expertly crafted by Chevals and again some hints of acid bass line to form a proper dance floor hit.
B2 is dedicated to @madcat_music’s remix of “Good Good”, where the French producer explains his point of view with a more funky oriented version of the track but keeping the essential parts intact.
Impossible not to be excited by this EP by the Parisian producer who finally slams his fist on the table in what is his best musical statement so far. Bare with us until the end of March to listen to this pearl (vinyl).
