There were strange shapes scattered across the sky, they were a reminder that they weren’t alone out here. Floating through the night sky towards a destination unknown, she watched from a little window at the flickering stars and the dancing comets which weaved between the shadowy clouds and murky black.

She had once thought that space was a scary place but not now. How could she when it was now the only place left to call home? Perhaps that was the same with all fear – it was simply a case of inhabiting it, living amongst it until the threat began to disappear and perspective was realigned.
 
Night Defined is an Austrian electronic music label based in Salzburg and founded by Juergen Vonbank. It has evolved over the years having released an eclectic array of music from the likes of SW, Șerb, Eduardo De La Calle and more.

The latest split EP to emerge on the label features tracks from Mesak, Nurah, Mary Yalex and Even Tuell. It is Mesak’s which we bring to you today.

Lion's Drums invite Lugal Lanbada

He'd become a master in the art of lying; his charm, wit and good looks helped him in that arena. The lines had blurred so much between fact and fiction that he almost believed his own tall tales these days - he'd created a persona that was so far removed from the way he used to be. Many of his old friends no longer felt like they knew him; his priorities had changed and somewhere along the road he'd lost himself.

Art punk ravers The Umlauts are following up their recent release for PRAH Recordings with a remix package featuring several producers and label alumni. Each bringing their own styles to the table, and all a perfect fit to amp up the frenzied energy of the originals, the EP rallies the likes of London based sound-designer Yuri Suzuki, Teleman drummer Hiro Ama and duo Uh, among many others. 

Speaking about Yuri Suzuki's track, the band said: "Yuri Suzuki’s remix of The Fact was pure joy to hear, we love it. It remedies the samba punk of the original with pure unfettered dance groove. Am I tapping my foot? Yes. Am I nodding my head? Yes again. Am I doing a slightly awkward side step? Indeed I am, oh yes. Yuri is the perfect birthing partner. Go and listen to everything else he has made, listen twice, it’s all brilliant."

PREMIERE: The Umlauts - The Fact (Yuri Suzuki Remix)

Grief is a strange beast. There's no one size fits all approach, no answers to your many questions, no rule book to tell you how to feel or respond... That's left for you to figure out for yourself. What becomes apparent though is that there are so many ways that our loved ones remain with us - music is at the forefront. These sweet sounds are a time capsule of places, faces and spaces; they keep our memories alive; they stir laughter and tears; and they help us to celebrate life, rather than commemorate death.

Music is a powerful tool to explore love and loss. This is the case for Levi Love's new release, which is a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to his late mother. Released on his own Mas O Menos imprint on cassette, A Tribute To Magriza, was written not long after the funeral of the leading figure in the Manchester-based producer and DJ's life. The five tracks - which include a stirring Xhosa version of the Apostles’ creed from Levi's mother's congregation, sung without her for the first time in 33 years - were all produced in one take with no edits, with the aim of the release being "an unfiltered sonic interpretation" of his grief and the processing of her passing.
