Lucid - Jostronamer (David Carretta Rmx)

Following releases this year on XXX and Nein, Italian duo Younger Than Me now make their debut on Jennifer Cardini and Noura Labbani’s Dischi Autunno with an outstanding, explorative, yet inherently (and beautifully) 90s-feeling five-track EP.
Three originals, two remixes: ‘Mind Hunter’ leads the cosmic charge, ploughing us beyond the known universe on a ship of acid and pulsating warm analog synths. ‘Feeling Breath’ takes us even deeper into electronica’s most formative decade with an uptempo thrust, more acid and wry elements of trance before ‘Sewer Rat’ takes us deep underground with much more of a percussive techno twist. 
Remix-wise Jennifer has recruited the perfect complementary artists: Acid Junkies (who made the first record she ever learnt to DJ with back in 94) flip ‘Sewer Rat’ into an almighty acid juggernaut while Shan once again reminds us why he’s the master of modern rave a stunning eight-minute, break-based twist on ‘Feeling Breath’.

We can't say otherwise than that this guy is killing it at the moment. His Italo edit of Bollywood classic 'Koi Jaye' has probably caused more unified dance floor irruption than any other track last summer - being played by the likes of Palms Trax, Job Jobse and Hunee, to name a few. With his latest, similar flavoured edit for Dar Discu gathering the same reactions, the time has come for his first original work and delivers big time for Something Happening Somewhere’s 12-track V.A. compilation.

PREMIERE : Ozzy - Aloe

Neon lights illuminated their path to the city, a beacon amongst its vast, dark surroundings. Pedal to the metal they raced down the freeway, eager to make the most of the precious few days they had there. As they approached the main strip they were mesmerised; the brightly lit hotels and bold, kitsch restaurants were everywhere. It was unlike anything they'd seen before, something of an attack on the senses. This was exactly where they needed to be.

Next up on German imprint Emerald & Doreen is a debut record from Alex Twitchy AKA Velax. With more upcoming releases lined up for the likes of Dogs & Vultures and NUFF, Velax gives us an introduction to his cosmic synth-driven sound, bringing together influences in acid, electro, indie dance and Italo. The EP, titled Decisions, is made up of three diverse and colourful originals, from the electro-tinged title track to the driving robotic rhythms of 'Sound Of Mind', and the Italo Disco-infused romanticism of our pick 'Rhythm Control'.

PREMIERE: Velax - Rhythm Control (Original Mix) [Emerald & Doreen Recordings]

You never get used to the feeling of cold steel plunging into your brain stem. A moment of muscular convulsion and a metallic aftertaste are a breeze compared to the eye-strained methods my grandfather used to enter virtual realms. Bypassing the archaic detour of beaming data through the senses, hardlining straight to the brain is the favoured method of those seeking a ‘true to life’ experience. As the program boots, vision withdraws and the world collapses. Like the moment in a dream where you’re unsure of your surroundings, but your mind fills in the gaps, the spectacular nature of this voluntary world becomes normality. 

Based out of the Netherlands, the Coloray helmed label ‘Intercept’ is on release duty for Lewski’s latest, Military Simulations. Across its three tracks, Lewski unleashes his unique approach to sound and rhythm, sprinkling the release with otherworldly instrumentation, whilst constantly the building the suspense. Our pick is the title track, an industrial techno stomper, with the best elements of electro and acid thrown in for good measure. The track’s bleeps and warbles atop frantic percussion build excitement for the cyberpunk raves of our near dystopia.

Exclusive: Petbrick - Guacamole Handshake (Fango Remix)

It's time to continue the noise. After the release of Petbrick's debut album I last year, the duo consisting of Wayne Adams and Iggor Cavalera, selected various and musically diverse artists to take on remix duties for the band's remix album project, namely I Remixed. Italian mastermind Fango, known for his percussive influenced (techno) approaches on music, reworked Guacamole Handshake and delivers a musical piece that could not have a clearer handwriting of an artist than this one. As soon as the bass sets in Guacamole Handshake becomes a Fango-thon, or in other words a groovey rhythmical track with slightly bouncing beats in different variations and nuances. Fango's take sounds simple, yet contains so many facets, so many drums and sounds that it pulls the listener into an undertow of percussions before the noise finds its way into the track to break open this rhythmic harmony for a few seconds. 

Petbrick's I Remixed will be released on Rocket Recordings on July 31st, 2020.

EXCLUSIVE: Petbrick - Guacamole Handshake (Fango Remix) [Rocket Recordings]

Another mighty EP from our guy in Russia, peeps! Disco Morato (SXDNS147) is actually a machine producing one release after another, pumping out perfect dark & warped electronic body music that would be packing dance floors in smoke-filled basements if only we were allowed to do this during such strange times. His forthcoming release on Nein Records continues his winning streak, pulsing beats and laser synths from each of the three originals that will take you right into the Russian producer’s mind. The remixes come courtesy from Nein boss Tronik Youth (SXDNS050) and Morato’s Russian cohort Gegen Mann – who delivers two different interpretations and turns up the heat both on “Discesa” and “Mandato Divino”.

D.M. keeps flirting with the Italian vocabulary and shows on the title track (“descent”, translated into English) a different sonority considering his most recent productions. His main characteristic – thick and palpable darkness – is there, but now pairing with a more bleepy and funky theme. The trippy synth lead and the bouncing bassline are definitely some of the highlights that cannot go unmentioned.
