After quite a while, Rodion returns with a new solo single. On LSD!
Rodion dismisses the romantic spaceman suit for a tighter and much darker number on his roman/german label Roccodisco, the house of the Alien Alien.

Just forget the refined and the sweet: this is basically creepy afterhours music, a trip too far gone through obscure and scary galaxies outside the Solar system.
The sound is 100% analog, druggy, mechanical uptempo funk: rumbling basslines, sheer and hallucinogenic synths on top of a seriously raw beat. This time Rodion’s voyage is a no-way-back one.

On the remix duty, we are very proud to feature the Argentinian duo DJS Pareja (Còmeme). Strong, rude, this version takes you to an unpredictable cruising on Planet Medusa. Call it nasty house, or electro macho, this is definitely the sound of a snake-haired nightmare…

Then, to complete the EP, we have Solenoid, one of the wildest Rodion numbers ever: 
a rapsody in gold where out-of-this-world melodies and geometric old-skool grooves melt in a bench chemistry orgy. qJust make sure not to miss it.

Behind the next release on Meant Records are Italian duo Boot & Tax, a relatively new pairing made up of Claudio Brioschi and Cristian Croce. Here they serve up three great originals baced with a stellar remix from Alien Alien.
Before now, Boot & Tax have released two extremely well received EPs on JD Twitch’s Optimo Trax and have also recently had their music licensed to Erol Alkan’s Fabric live 77, so the pair are really on the up.
Title track ‘Brace Brace’ is first and is an elastic, analogue workout with gurgling synth lines riding up and down atop steely drums as punky vocals come on at various intervals. Acid and electro, techno and house all get bottled up in the arrangement, which is fresh and just what you would expect of someone backed by JD Twitch.
The Alien Alien remix of this one is slow and trudging, purposeful and swampy. Snaking synths, coarse claps and a sense of foreboding pervade this most groovy of slo mo cuts.
‘Niente Per Niente’ is a dark but balearic feeling bit of chugging disco, with big licks and groaning bass all gliding along at an inviting tempo. Breathy female ad libs add a sense of character to the shadowy drums and ensure this one will set parties like ALFOS on fire. Lastly, ‘Balkan Youth’ gets much more cosmic with its flipping synths, twinkly melodies and rattling percussive patterns. Ascending ever higher, it takes you on a ride through the cosmos and dumps you out somewhere altogether happier.
This is sure to be a breakout release for Boot & Tax who seem right at the heart of the analogue disco revolution.

THE EYE OF TIME is the solo-project of French musician Marc Euvrie. Euvrie's musical development is deeply connected with the French DIY punk and hardcore scene, though he has been classically trained as well. He started to play piano being 9 years old, composed his first pieces with 15 and studied cello at the conservatoire after finishing school. Euvrie was involved in several bands before he began to translate his personal reflection of our complex world into music, which initiated THE EYE OF TIME. His extensive self titled debut has been released in spring 2012 and exposed a dark look on the present, past and future. His last albums were promising a glimpse of hope (“Acoustic”) or pitch-black despair (“ANTI”). With “MYTH I : A last dance for the things we love" THE EYE OF TIME will release the first part of a three record album concept MYTH (MYTH II - A need to survive, MYTH III - The final chapter), which will be a synthesis of all his past works.

MYTH is a word with ambiguous meanings in the dictionary, but all these lead to the same conclusion. The Eye of Time's MYTH trilogy is about the path that humanity took over the ages and about how we could tell this epic story. We could decide to see things on the bright side, or to a have a more dramatical (in the literal sense) look on it. Like if one species is looking at another, and in a different era. MYTH is a feedback to the tragical events of our time, to what people have to endure nowadays in order to survive, as well as the refugees travels, and the resistance against capitalism that is growing all over the world. MYTH is also a particular way to see things, to take sides with history. When we talk about ancient political activists and revolutionaries, resistances to the established order, we make the choice to transform it into a myth, a history full of heroes. But the past is the present. And our present will be the past again. It is on us to take action in order to avoid our inevitable end.

Marc Euvrie recorded “MYTH I : A last dance for the things we love" completely on his own. Being away from home, dealing with family issues, his music served him as deep introspection about himself and the world. An introspection impregnated with minimalistic moments, where piano and cello write the story of loneliness and calm. At the same time evolving dramaturgies emerge, driven by rumbling beats, accompanied by both grim and hopeful melodies; just to be aware that irrationality gives birth to our myths and that myths, in turn, affect our very own existence.

The cover artworks of the MYTH album trilogy display pictures of Emin Özmen, a winner of the world press photo award. His work is focused on the situation in Kurdistan, Syria, Turkey and the "refugees". His work has been published by Time magazine, The New York Times, BBC, Guardian, among others.

The eye of time - L'enfer ce n'est pas les autres, c'est moi

An ethereal, unresolved presence fading into the stereo field, Hilja breathes into life with a haunted synth line and self-sampling vocal hook that instantly creates an enchanted space. Hilja is the debut album by Glasgow-based musician Maria Rossi aka Cucina Povera. Named after a style of southern Italian traditional cooking associated with precarity and making-do, a philosophy of simplicity and stoicism that applies perfectly to the spare but beautiful music Rossi experiments with. Hilja’s marriage of minimal synth, field recordings and the hymnal dexterity of Rossi’s vocal performances creates a new language, sometimes literally, to be spoken in some mythological Fourth World we’ve yet to create.
 
Originally from Finland, Rossi brings an acute sense of space, surroundings, and practicality to her working practice, with each composition often relying on a limited sound palette to create deeply affecting messages which transcend language. Cucina Povera’s power is to communicate purely, often down to the solo-choir nature of Rossi’s multi-layered voice, an achingly beautiful instrument which has seems to have an innate spirituality in its grain. The tension between the means and the end is at the heart of Cucina Povera, the invocation of a kind of secular spirituality at times using nothing but Rossi’s voice. Indeed there’s almost a Dogme-like purity to the arrangements: Elektra is a soothing song based around the lapping waves of Rossi’s wordless backing vocals and a simple field recording of stones knocked together. Kehoitus is completely a cappella, a haunted fairytale told in glossolalia, evoking a quasi-religious experience with very little.
 
For music often minimal and simple there’s a boldness that belies Hilja’s status as a debut. Rossi allows each word, each sound and rhythm to exist in its own space, finding its own relationship with its surroundings. Mesikämmenen Veisu is perhaps the most ecclesiastical sounding composition here; burbling water trickles below a virtuoso vocal, with incredible arrangements in several registers undulating above. A meditation to relieve hunger and restriction, it’s a perfect summing up of Hilja, a music ambient but completely earthed, finding enchantment in what you have to hand, the realism of magic, the magic of realism.

Cucina Povera: Totean

The EP in question is 'Kappa Cygnids' and features two new tracks and as ever they are eloquently named and shrouded in mystical magic. 'Kappa Cygnids' is the lead track and is followed by 'Hyperborea' both tracks have Sinchi's signature sound and are backed up with two cracking remixes from Mexican producers Riglopolar and Roliva.

The Original of this latter one was part of RELISH COMP VI and is a Post-Punk - New Wave - Techno influenced track produced by the Danish/ Icelandic duo The Mansisters. They have released several tracks on Relish. The Mansisters are DJ and producer Kasper Bjørke and Jon Atli / Sexy Lazer. As some might know Robi likes these sort of influences and organic sounds, so he decided to give Tex Control another twist which brings it even more back in time.
