There were glimmering colours and flickering lights which danced and bounced between the four walls of the grand old hall. Inside it revellers moved in a euphoric trance, engulfed by the saidas touch, a hypnotic force which bound them together and kept them moving in ignorant unison. It was a beautiful, magnificent thing - strangely fascinating to watch as each dancer moved simultaneously in time with the rumble and banging of drums as a myriad of colours exploded and flashed. 

Dj Willie Oboe is back and when I say that it will likely mean very little. However, if I were to tell you that it's a magical new moniker for one of the members of the infamous hardware inspired duo Frak you might be more excited. They are set to release a new EP on Lost Control, a somewhat more house focussed affair than their usual. However, it still carries that rough and ready, signature Frak sound.

The Leuven based organisation nacht invites friends of the party to start their journey as a label. Something for the heads and the feet, NACHT01 contains 3 tracks that span different levels of intensity and cross different tempos, mirroring a good night out the way the crew feels it should. 


Young gun Cabasa kicks off the catalog with a cerebral and restrained track, sprinkling UK samples and delightfully foggy breaks throughout. Aalst house and electro royalty Innershades, completing the A-side, provides the sun-soaked banger you’ve been waiting to drop all year. On the B-side Dusseldorfian Dj Ungel and the Cologne based Jonathan Sümer fuse into Trancesetters Of Westphalia. They provide the V.A. closer Etherium, an odyssey clocking in at about nine minutes and traversing a handful planes of existence in the process.

Frankfurt am Main has been on the german map of electronic dance music for arguably a handful of decades, characterized by vibrant scenes of emerging artists and DJs, and a (more often than not) industrious habit, which became notorious over the course of the 1990s. The crucial years of 1991 thru 1994, in which genres increasingly became sophisticated and attributed with regional sound signifyers, saw many protagonists getting into gear for international careers, while others ditched middle-class life perspectives for making a living with music related activities. 

'Archive – A Frankfurt Catalogue 91-94' is a selective, rather cerebral sonic cross section of Frankfurt am Main. Unlike other compilations based on cities, Archive does not claim to be representative—it is hyper-specific and curated to emphasize the emergent sound of an era, which became a topic of special interest in recent years. Experimental, bleepy acid and techno, science fiction house music with trance seeping in around the edges—the protagonists featured on this curated Compilation represent many of Frankfurt’s burgeoning scenes back then.

The tracklist might as well be read as a rhizomatic, yet partial analysis of the Frankfurt scene around that time. The first track sees two pioneers of Frankfurt’s pre house and techno tape scene, Pink Elln (aka Tobias Freund) and Atom Heart team up as Phobia, followed by a short-lived triad called Ongaku which consisted of Atom Heart and the DJ duo of Ata and Heiko MSO. Those DJs were to co-found the Delirium record store and start their own family of record labels soon after, joined by two guys hailing from close-by Darmstadt: Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke. Roman and Jörn initially created their Alter Ego project as an outlet for releases on Harthouse; an infamous label, run by Sven Väth amongst others, which also released countless productions created by Ralf Hildenbeutel. Redeye’s and Solar Eclipse’s tracks had been released on after 6am point, a label that had once been run out of the lively and creative hub at Delirium record store. The project Sieg Über Die Sonne had been started by Tobias Freund and Martin Schopf (aka Dandy Jack) in the late 1980s, both close friends to Atom Heart, who completes this compilation with a rare house track.

It had began with small, trivial suggestions - changes that she could manage and adapt to quickly. They weren't life-changing, purely superficial or aesthetic, but soon enough these asks became bigger. He was trying to mould her into something she wasn't. Challenging him wasn't an option, she didn't like to go against the grain, rather she preferred to keep quiet and stay in line. 

Since launching back in 2016, Melbourne-based producer and label boss Louis Marlo has used his Felt Sense Recordings imprint as a platform to share his own creations with the world. Though there has been a four year hiatus since Louis' last two releases, this serves the label's ethos of prioritising quality over quantity. His third outing, Who Wants Alchemy?, is no exception. Coming complete with a remix from Lou Karsh AKA Reptant, the 5-track release blends electro, IDM and techno, at times calling to mind the more stirring side of Carl Finlow's productions through its glistening melodies, warm basslines and processed electronics.
