Two years after his Debut EP Bloodline [OTN 01], Umo returns to OpenTheNext with another 7 #neodancefloor killer tracks.

The sound of Umo is the result of almost two decades of studying frequencies, vibrations, sequences of movements, plants and ascetic substances, seeking to recover the Music & Dance´s sacred and transcendental vision to ascend and sustain higher states of consciousness.

His new EP is a slow motion rework of the Raves in the 90s´ original sounds & vibrations. Traveling to a time when the dancefloors were true places of healing , authentic liturgies where people danced in community for days with eyes closed - before the internet, smartphones and globalization would corrupt everything.

#slowravers is a sonic journey that encourages conscious breathing and movement, and allows you to empty, dilute and connect in perfect resonance with the void that binds everything together.

PREMIERE: Umo - Natura [openthenext]

The darkness was ominous and thick, there was little to be seen but for the faint flickering glow of torches as the procession made its way slowly through the forest and into the fields beyond. Watching on from above, it were as if the gatherers were a glowing procession of tiny ants, illuminated orange and gold as they walked away from the foothills.

They would not be back. No, by the time the war was over they would be long gone. He on the other hand would be safe, locked here in his prism of power, away from the skirmishes and scraps, safe from the worrisome world of battle and strife.

He took a firm draw on his pipe and lit the fire. He would never be defeated.
 
Chilean producer Miraclis is set to release a new album on Secret Teachings. This next single acts as a further introduction to a promising musician and the label has done well to bring on board the prowess of Ivan Smagghe and Rupert Cross to remix proceedings.

Together they have collaborated to create mutant versions of a track called ‘Scienter’ – each version as weird, wonderful and haunting as the last.

Returning to the Ransom Note Records offshoot, Insult To Injury boss Timothy Clerkin presents four prime cuts of rave meatiness for our ravenous consumption. Showing off his chops, Timothy’s distinctive Acid sound collides head on with Jungle and Breakbeat elements, put through the mincer to form an EP of epic dance floor destroyers. 

Dreaming explodes out of the gate first, clattering in with a big, wobbly bass line before dropping into a rapturous rave anthem! Perfect for the late summer festivals. Tour de Trance takes the tempo down a notch, whilst revving up the Hands-In-The-Air-O-Meter! Big, analogue synths build throughout, sweeping us up and taking us to a place of pure ecstasy by the end.

Jangala continues this blissfulness, transporting us to a synthesized rainforest, where birds call and string sections play in perfect harmony. This paradise is fleeting though, as the carpet is ripped out from under our feet and we’re slapped around the face by a rave stab so aggressive, it probably has rabies. 

Broken Wing takes us to the close with eastern inspired melodies and drums interacting with an Acid bass and resonant synth stabs to generate a hypnotic state of being. As we approach enlightenment, the sounds build around us to transport us to a higher rave plain.

Timothy Clerkin - Dreaming EP [Snippets] ITI#20

Khidja continue to develop their tripped out vision with their first full EP for Hivern since 2019's 'Impossible Holiday'. In 'Something In The Water' the Romanian duo presents three new tracks that drift between genres and moods through open minded studio experimentation. “The Future Has Disappeared” and “Back To Vid” rely on contrasting sound palettes and a smart use of the stereo field to build up tension while 'Science of Ghosts' is an expansive number of galactic electro-funk. The 12” features a stripped out mystical remix by Azu Tiwaline while the digital release includes two extra oddball dancefloor cuts.

Human Endeavour Records, the newest member of the Ransom Note Records label family, returns with ‘Confession Time’, its second release and first solo artist EP from Anastasia Zems.

Hot on the heels of the inaugural release, a Various Artists EP featuring six producers from across the world, they welcome the DJ, vocalist and producer for a four-track EP of heads down, mid-tempo sludge that sees her thread the needle between acid, EBM, new beat and cold wave.

With opener ‘Underwear’ Anastasia plots a course into murky depths. The most club-ready cut on the release, it’s driven by a pulsating acid line and rumbling bass that soon give way to hypnotic synth patterns and Anastasia’s sultry, commanding spoken word.

‘Trust Me’ continues on the same note, launching with crisp percussion and hollow drum hits before a warbling sub bass engulfs us whole. Eerie pads and shimmering synths are introduced alongside ghostly vocal stabs which elevate the sonics from the darkness.

The pace drops as we reach the halfway mark of the EP. Potent and trance-inducing, ’Slowdance’ crawls along carried by a squelchy acid line that gradually unfurls over a haunting synth pattern and echoing, whispered vocals.

‘I Don’t Wanna’ wraps things up on a lighter note. A low slung bass line and steady drum beat is met by intoxicating bells that ring out overhead while Anastasia’s soft, heady tones keep the EP’s overall air of mystery alive.

On the inspiration behind the EP, Anastasia explains: “Behind each of the tracks there is a story about something personal. It so happens that my vocals usually appear in tracks during improvisation and most often do not change. This is my way of expressing feelings. It turns out that this is the time for confession.”

As a DJ and producer Anastasia Zems chases a counterpart to her urban upbringing, drawing inspiration from the tribal sounds of imagined rainforests. Her psychedelic, rhythmic productions, which she laces with her signature mysterious vocals have earned her singles, remixes and EPs on labels like Needs, Les Yeux Orange, ИДА, Fucanglong Files and Whypeopledance.

Human Endeavour is the newest addition to Ransom Note Records’ family of sub-labels. Curated and run by Ransom Note Editor, and one half of DJ duo Kiara Scuro, Rosie Ama Cain, the label will be a “space for artists who are exploring the dark, deep and hypnotic corners of the musical spectrum.”

As part of Sneaker's Give 'n' Take 2 Dresden synth- and sound-wizard Jacob Korn contributes his track Relentless to the five-tracker of his buddy's conglomerate of favorite tracks, his first solo release since 2018. Relentless is a typical JK-track - an unagitated propellent piece with a melodic note and several bassline intermezzi keeping the track rolling, the crowd moving and proves why Jacob's been at the top of his game for so long.

Two years on since his BR debut in Berlin, our attention is drawn once again to Benedikt Frey and his Lopasura (Love, Pain, Sunshine & Rain) imprint. Since its 2012 formation, Lopasura has housed Benedikt's own releases. Following on from the Connect Four compilation by Drvg Cvltvre, Mark Forshaw, The Acid Mercenaries and Benedikt himself, he now returns with the label's fourth release. Out of the Fog showcases a trio of analogue-laden techno mastery. The title track opens proceedings fittingly. Acid low-tessitura chords hiss continuously underneath while siren synths whir in and out in their grandeur, peaking to symphonic effect before fading back into the dark. A sense of drama that encompasses Love, Pain, Sunshine & Rain comprehensively.

Catch Out of the Fog creeping out of the shadows on 21st April via Lopasura.
