On The Arboretum, Analogue Attic co-founder Alex Albrecht leans further into the dancefloor, channelling the more hypnotic and driving energy that Butter Sessions is known for. Across the five tracks, listeners are treated to Albrecht's signature melody-driven deep house, bolstered by intricate rhythms, a deeper low end, and hypnotic loops designed for larger systems and later hours.

The tracks are playful yet serious, functional yet full of personality. There’s the joy of long blends and the tiny details that bubble up in the mix: field recordings from time spent away, nostalgic archival material, and subtle harmonic shifts that keep the tension simmering.

It’s a record built for dancers, but also for home listening. By embracing a tougher, more energetic sound, this release expands Albrecht's sonic world while staying true to the textural depth and sense of journey that run through all his work.

Alex Albrecht - The Arboretum (BSR047)

The ever-restless crate digger and globe-trotting selector Romain FX steps into the booth for our 137th edition of the Phonica Mix series, bringing with him the full force of his nomadic, genre-bending ethos. 
Born in France but raised across Hong Kong, Taiwan and the USA, he’s spent nearly two decades cultivating a sound with no borders—whether through founding Hong Kong’s Fauve Radio and Fauve Records, digging through the city’s back-street record shops or driving sunrise sessions atop the Great Wall of China. For this mix he set out to “create a melting pot of sounds from different corners of the world, stitched together into my own musical sphere,” he tells us, outlining his intent to blend Canto Pop with Korean beats, Ghetto House with IDM, Indian electronic experiments and dreamy rave, all seasoned with a dash of space disco. That he pulls it off – without caring if genre purists wince – is testament to years of diligent vinyl hunting (over 3,000 records and counting) and a restless urge to challenge the dancefloor. It’s not just the track-list that intrigues, but the spirit of connection through contrast. Expect hidden unreleased gems for curious ears, and a journey that reminds you why Romain FX remains one of the most adventurous voices in underground dance music today.

Let’s give a warm welcome to Scottish producer Neil McDonald, known as Lord Of The Isles, one of our most cherished artists and a true master of his craft. This is his first appearance on Deep Breakfast, and he arrives with a fresh, unmistakable voice. Over the years, he has forged a singular sonic language that rises above the dance floor, drifting into subliminal rhythms, ambient textures and experimental realms. Gifted at weaving dynamic narratives, he summons powerful emotions and otherworldly visions. Lord Of The Isles possesses a rare ability to draw the listener into his own world, rather than guiding them through theirs…a beautiful place to linger.

Jonnie SDA was a rogue, a vagabond, a troublemaker. He carried those letters with him as a reminder of his military past and with time they had become his calling card. His appearance was scruffy, his face askew, eyes wild, blazing with the malice of a battlefield left behind. He had always wanted to rebel, now would begin his reign of chaos. Jonnie SDA was in town, and he was sure as hell, here to stay.

The rattle of metal echoed furiously down the tunnel. the subway car continued to roll through the dirt darkness, a soft light illuminating the train tracks on a winter night. The Drome network has insured that all of these tunnels were built with watertight intricacy and immaculate detail, but that was many years gone by now. Who knew how safe the lines were now...

Chicago's influence on music has defined a generation. House might not exist but for the jackin' clubs of the eighties. Little remains as a testamanet, however, Jack The Mack 3 offers an insight into days gone by.

And the loop goes on and on and on. Four times, until the end. The wheel would continue to spin, the planet would continue to turn and the sun would set upon this day once more. This relaxation would never be found once more, they were lost, deep within the comfort zone. 

Second Hand Fun is a new label which appear to have hit the ground running. Split between Montreal and Berlin their first release comes from Comfort Zone with an EP named 'The Function'.

I was looking for a place to dance in the dark. A smoke filled room with a rumbling system and an ambience of excess. I asked them to bring me down to the spot, but it was not what I had expected at all. The red walls lined the room with a deathly glow, the black mist prevented my sight, I was disorientated and lost. This was not my idea of fun and I wished I had not asked them to bring me down. 

Tuff City Kids are on triumphant form as they remix M Wylde on Cultures Of Soul. When this one landed in our inbox we knew we were on a to a winner straight from the off: a winning combination. They edit the track into a high energy melodic dancefloor escapade.

The caves of Botuto loomed ominously above the sea, their black, murky depths swallowed up the water and sight was lost amidst the darkness. The waves roared coarsely in his ears as they clattered against the rugged cliff face, this was unchartered territory, no human had ever entered the Botuto. They would soon find out how deep the rabbit hole beneath the water would go. 

'Schaum' is the latest release to emerge from the Faitiche records camp. It sees masayoshi Fujita and Jan Jelinke get weird and wonderful across a sprawling assortment of music which comes in at just under an hour.

The Northwest coast was not a place which showed mercy to those who chose to venture through its seas. In the distance the towering peaks of mountain ranges and cliff faces glimmered under the overcast haze. The boat moved beyond the waves, climbing and falling in line with the moving tide. The roaring sea cracked against the helm as the crew hung on for dear life. This was the Hebrides and they were far from their hometown now. 

Molecule's latest project titled '60° 43’ Nord' is a remarkable feat. The album was recorded over a month spent at sea. The record was recorded in the wild reaches of the North Atlantic ocean aboard a 90 metre fishing boat.
