She knew a thing or two about suffering; in fact she could probably write a whole book about it. All the cliches had been thrown her way: 'every cloud has a silver lining', 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger', 'when one door closes, another door opens' and so on... She'd learnt to smile and nod, rather than retort with sarcasm. That said, with each strike or set back there had always been an evaluation, a lesson or a coping mechanism she'd take away and apply to the next situation.

As a way of connecting cities and artists during lockdown, Offenbach's Live At Robert Johnson and Leipzig’s Riotvan have joined forces for a new collaborative release, 'PLAYRVN001'. Made up of five tracks that link up two artists, the EP gives us a window into the sonic foundations of each imprint and the synergy between them both. Collaborations come from Roman Flügel & Rebolledo, Jennifer Touch & Chinaski, New Hook and Perel, Fort Romeau & Panthera Krause and Horkheimer & Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht, spanning everything from synth pop to cosmic disco, breakbeat and Italo.

Djedjotronic blasts us off on an interstellar journey with The Great Red Spot.

The E.P. takes its name from the ancient and gigantic storm, bigger than the Earth, that swirls around the planet Jupiter. Similarly, the E.P. has a constantly-moving, massive and menacing energy that pushes the sound of electro to new horizons.

The release includes four original peak time meteorites with an additional rocket from Chrome captain Jensen Interceptor, who gives the bass-heavy EP-highlight "Death Clock" a high octane rework.

Physical release is on extra special Jupiter red coloured vinyl.

Discos Capablanca return with a record from the mysterious Detroit-based Sharif Laffrey (we know little more than his place of birth, and that he likes to ride his bike and warm weather) who brings the heat on the Turn It Up 12". Recorded in Detroit in the late 80s and released on a cassette tape compilation in 1988, the original "Turn It Up" is a long forgotten gem from the period that Electro was beginning to morph and mutate into nascent forms of Techno. Excavated by Hugo Capablanca's label, the track is presented in an edited version that stays true to the original and complemented by an Acid Dub Not Dub version that implements plenty of deranged 303 action.

Last week brought the welcome news Detlef Weinrich had opened up his archive of unreleased Tolouse Low Trax material spanning the past 10 years to Paris label Antinote for a trilogy of records. We noted this was coming at a time the former Kriedler band member was starting to get wider exposure for his own distinct brand of idiosyncratic dancefloor material; his Rushing Into Water 12" for local Düsseldorf label being among this year's best releases. A commission to remix Sano for the Colombian's incoming return to Cómeme is further evidence of this belated and well deserved rise for Tolouse Low Trax. There is of course a shared love of electronic music production at its most basic that ensures a Tolouse Low Trax appearance on Cómeme makes perfect sense, and you could argue that much of Weinrich's work sounds like a track from Matias Aguayo's label played at the wrong speed.

However, Weinrich's source material for his self-styled Tolouse Low Trax Interview Remix, Sano's "La Grúa" is much closer to the tempo he operates at. The first tangible material since his self-titled Sano LP some three years ago, Sebastian Hoyos toys around with a famous break on "La Grúa" at a pace that would perk the ears of Andrew Weatherall. On the Tolouse Low Trax remix, the sense of space is all the more apparent and finely complemented by some creeping vocal samples - stream it in full below.

Today United Colors of Rhythm is born, the project of a Chilean who moved to Spain for love. Love in its most traditional concept, but also love for her relationship with music. And this is how, from Fernanda Arrau (Pirotecnia / Playground), renowned Chilean artist, United Colors of Ryhthm (UCoR) is presented.
It is a new label with great ideas to contribute to our electronic music scene, artistic proposals that Fernanda herself defines as 'quite singular things' in which both the musical and visual aspects hold equally importance.
There is room for art in all its expressions at United Colors of Rhythm, without forgetting the main objective: to explore the nuances of electronic music. The first VA in November ‘18 promises to demonstrate an example of this eclecticism, wih artists including : Thomass Jackson (Calypso Records), Balam (Playground Records), Gabriel Ferreira (Ninefont Records, Elias Deepman (Panal Records) and Fernanda Arrau herself.

Amsterdam based Sinchi is a multi-faceted platform, including a DJ collective, event promoter, mix series, blog and now label. The new not-for-profit label will pledge the profits from each release to a hand-picked charity and kicks off with a fresh single from Leonor, featuring remixes from Curses and Sascha Funke.Profits from the first release will be benefiting The International Elephant Foundation, an NGO which focuses on protecting the severely endangered Asian elephant and the threatened African elephant. They support programs that protect elephants, habitat, and the villagers that live with elephants in their “backyards” by reducing human-elephant conflict.The artist behind the single is Leonor, a DJ and producer from Guadalajara, Mexico who now resides in France. An upcoming star, he has released on Nein Records, Toolroom, and Tom Tom Disco while charting in top positions on Beatport and Juno. He is rapidly making a real impact on the scene and in heavy demand as both dj and producer.His fantastic single here is an organic and inventive track littered with the sound of jungle wildlife, indigenous percussion and vocal chants and loose house drums. Big claps and raw loops help build the pressure making for a sure-fire bomb that will detonate any floor.First remixer is Curses, the New Yorker based in Berlin, known for blending rock & roll with the darker side of disco on labels such as Bordello A Parigi, Throne Of Blood, and Ombra International. The Rinse FM France resident brings all that to his haunting, chugging, macho disco remix, which has slapping hits and low slung bass all making you move.Then comes Sacha Funke, an experienced artist with credits for his deep, graceful sounds on the likes of Kompakt, BPitch Control and Turbo. Here he reworks ‘King of Elephants in the Sequence’ into a flailing and unhinged house track with a giant rasping bassline and trippy synth details. It’s one to shake things up and bring real colour and freakiness to the club.This is a fantastic package not only in musical terms, but also because of the charitable intentions behind it.
