Benedikt Frey - Brainwashed

fka boursin is a DJ and producer out of Bristol, UK. 
Previously known as DJ Boursin, he is recognized for his deep, ambient-infused house music that explores political dimensions of clubs and identity politics.

Welcomed into the Scissor & Thread fold, fka boursin shares two cuts of deep and introspective electronic music. 

The original Listless Intertext is a hazy trip through ambient soundscapes, shuffling rhythms and half-caught conversations, drifting across a 12 minute run time that slowly evolves and shifts with time.  

"Listless Intertext is a track centred around the "failed" employment of cheap vocoder software that attempted to process explicit words and phrases across 11 minutes." says fka boursin. "Instead, the vocoder output made any words indecipherable and I was left with thematic vagueness. The final text of the track is simply a submission to its own limitations with some french thrown in."

When label bosses Frank & Tony step up for their Housebeat Dub, they keep the essential mood but introduce a thick, fat groove that works just as well in conveying the mood. 

"Our remix is a strictly dancefloor approach," says Frank, "an extended psychedelic beat rework perfect for late night, early morning vibes".

You hear a pulsating rhythm. What does it mean when the intensity rises? Is it the blood rushing from the sound of the drum that brings meaning or is it the anticipation of what’s next?

Kasra V’s returns to his budding V-sion imprint with its third installation. This latest offering brings us to the totality of physicality, where grooves and melodies do not require a resolution. The tracks bring to mind the unbridled maverick spirit of early Techno and Tribal House where the rulebook was tossed into flames and only the unfettered psyche remained.

Keeping the spirit of experimentation alive, Kasra’s affinity for manipulating samples and sounds in obscure ways shines through with playful nods to both industrial and early Midwest dance music alike.

Unchaining the shackles of where dance music has gone wrong, Kasra is trying to maintain the connection to a time when bodies moved to the beat religiously and held reverence only for the speaker stack.

Following a great run of releases from Finn, Yamaneko and Erskine Lynas, Local Action are back with their first record of 2018! 'Orlando' is the self-titled debut album from the producer formerly known as Orlando Volcano, who's previously released on the likes of Gobstopper and Liminal Sounds.

Featuring an amazing cast of features - from Octo Octa and Nemesis to Buscabulla and Gemma Dunleavy - it's a concise, finely-honed album that marks the full realisation of Orlando's heavenly, idiosyncratic take on dancehall/club music.

Today we're very happy to be premiering 'Nasty' which features the twin talents of Gobstopper boss Mr. Mitch and exciting new vocalist Yayoyanoh, who recently put out his debut EP on Bala Club.

"This song was originally called Nasty Dad," Orlando explains, "because me and Mitch wrote the instrumental in New York and he's a dad and the beat was a bit nasty... but for me Nasty Dad sounds a little creepy and we changed it, but now Mitch wants to change it back. Too late!"
