Perth-based artist lia t has an ear for capturing quotidian detail and making it feel special. At the very end of 2020, she released sketches222 on Deep Water, a collection of wistful ambient etudes that contained dozens of field recordings, mostly taken during the producer’s time in Osaka. Earlier that year, she also collaborated with Copenhagen-based artist Perko on mini-album highlight ‘Grounds’, a stunning 2-minute snapshot of the inimitable sounds that make up the city.

Her latest release, and opening track on Music Company's forthcoming Vector Fields Vol. 3 compilation, is a little different. Whereas ‘Grounds’ channelled the hum of the urban environment, ‘Sweetapple Lane’ is a more celestial affair—the aural equivalent of an aeroplane ride through a cloud. The track opens with a field recording of passing traffic but it quickly dissipates. Gradually, the piece thickens; the synths intensify and several other electronic elements drift in and out. It’s a noticeable expansion in scope from the producer’s music to date but it doesn’t sacrifice any of the intimacy that makes both sketches222 and ‘Grounds’ feel so personal. It’s more like being able to listen to someone’s thoughts as they fall into a daydream. That sense of reverie is heightened by lia’s clever use of field recordings. The producer bookends the track with them. In the last 30 seconds, she reintroduces one—this time nearer water or a beach—to bring the track slowly back down to earth. It’s these familiar, everyday sounds that add to the song’s quiet grandeur; they make it that much easier to get lost in its many overlapping folds.

The jungle was thick and dense, a deep sea of green engulfed their pathway as they wandered between tall trees, wild shrubbery and delicate flowers. It was warm in the midst of the forest, they had been told it might be by those who had come before them. From time to time the wild songs of birds would echo and dance amidst the leaves up above, there were no creatures to be seen but they were certainly there, watching over them as they passed through the thick. Soon the sun would set upon this remarkable place, they would be plunged into darkness as the wild things danced all around. 

Pandit Pam Pam is the moniker of São Paulo electronic artist, Eduardo Ramos. He is set to release a new record on Music Company, a dreamy experimental collection of synthesizer focussed tracks for deep listening. He describes the record as follows...

“I recorded mostly in deep summer in the countryside. Surrounded by trees and lots of sun. I was looking through the window at a small gathering of lemon trees and orange trees.”

It was that balmy kind of heat that made your clothes cling to your body and forced you to constantly mop your brow; she didn’t mind much, she felt at her most content when she was in the sun - it was her happy place. As soon as autumn rolled around the thought of the impending winter forced her into hibernation mode, she didn’t care much for the biting cold and crisp mornings. When spring came she’d emerge once again, only the sun held that power…

Seoul-based imprint Reach out Records are on a mission to raise funds for local causes whilst shining a light on artists from the country’s underground music scene. So far the non-profit imprint has supported projects and initiatives like Angel House, a residence for disabled people; their friend Tarek’s cancer treatment; and homeless support group PLUR. After a four year hiatus they return with their fourth VA release, ‘For The Youth’, which features music from Yetsuby, DJ Botermelk, Korea Town Acid and more, covering electro, acid, breaks, bass and more. This time they’re raising money for local charity, DDing Dong, who help support LGBTQIA+ teens in South Korea by providing them with counselling, shelter and support.

Trule drops its 9th release and the second in its 10” white label series with a collaboration between label boss Al Wootton and Montreal’s Priori.
Al Wootton heads up the A-side with JL, a deep, dubby and minimal house/techno number.
Priori reworks it into a ‘Sharp Tool Mix’ for the B-side, a rolling, drum heavy techno workout primed for dancefloors.
Priori co-runs the labels Naff and Garmo with Ex-Terrestrial and is one half of the Jump Source project with Patrick Holland.
