All the poisons, substances, drugs, tonics and potions would not be able to cure this thirst now. She had found a taste for something that could never be quenched again. What was she gonna do for fun now? This might as well be it. The apartment walls rose all around her amidst an empty room, the floorboards creaked beneath her feet as she paced to and fro. There was an itch, a craving, a desire which would never be fulfilled, it made her sad, oh so sad. 

Pitch originally released "What Am I Gonna Do For Fun" back in the early eighties. Now the newly founded label Idle Press are set to reissue it with a remix from Salon Des Amateurs founder Tolouse Low Trax.

The release comes with 2 videos directed by Robi Insinna himself. It will be released as limited edition 7“ Vinyl with screen printed Artwork, hand numbered and in digital format. The concept of the release is that the video, artwork and the music all reflect each other. The video is like a light painting. It features slow long shots that produce a strange atmosphere evoking a cinematic paranoia and suspense. The track was recorded in Berlin using old analog synths, sequencers and tape delay ! Vocals are by french vocalist and producer Justine is Colette. She had several releases and just started her new band project called Bagarre Perdue. Her first vocal collaboration was the track "Insurrection“ with "Heretic" on Relish EPVI. There are 2 versions by Cómeme’s Borusiade. One is exclusive for the limited edition 7“ vinyl release and the long version premiered here is included in the digital package. Born and raised in Bucharest she’s now residing in Berlin. Borusiade’s sound is often dark, with poignant bass lines, obsessive themes and by all means melodic. The second remix is by MR TC, DJ and producer coming out of Glasgow where he’s been turning heads internationally with his own brand of raw and fearless analogue dance music. His first two EP’s ’Soundtrack for Strangers’ and ’Surf and Destroy’ found a home on JD Twitch’s Optimo Music imprint with further edits and remixes in the pipeline.

Repping Cologne and Berlin is Niklas Wandt, Germany’s funkiest drummer and a mixed musical artist as adept in experimental jazz as demen- ted Euro dance. Standing toe to toe in a no holds barred, no drum unstruck groove contest, these two titans will make you swing your pants like a Crash Bandicoot victory dance...so stretch out and step in to ‚Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World‘.
Taking to their task with the joyful abandon of two big kids getting creative with the Kindergar- ten music tray, Müller & Wandt marry dripping electronics, Froesean pads and rubber-limbed basslines with tribal polyrhythms, C2 claps and Indonesian shakers - and that‘s only on the A1. Emotional Rescue returns to the music of British “pop” band Furniture, with an EP of the band’s own extended versions, remixes and unreleased takes of their particular output.  

Taken from three 12”s that followed When The Boom Was On (ERC072), the songs included cast a light on their development from 3 to 5 piece, adding Sally Still (bass) and Maya Gilder (keyboards) and the new male/female frontline.  The subsequent broadening of their line-up and sound meant they could start to address the kind of pop music they wanted to play.

After the early releases garneered radio play and reviews, Furniture were launched into the melee of ‘80s pop.  An anomaly, the band found they attracted a specific kind of “intense” follower, who were often beguiled by Furniture’s freaky normality.  This was addressed on the 1984 release, ‘I Can’t Crack’.  A more urgent version of the sound Furniture had debuted with ‘Why Are We In Love’, the track, sung by Tim, was based around a sequencer-like rhythm played live by drummer Hamilton Lee, and a clarinet part played by Tim’s brother, Larry Whelan.  A mix of bleakness and euphoria, the song was and is a favourite of the band and considered one of their best self-productions, as well as becoming a latter day club play. 

This is followed by the studio experiment ‘Throw Away The Script’, where the band wrestled with sequencers and synth-pop, but then countered it with a free-jazz sax solo.  Found on the flip of the double A -side of ‘Love Your Shoes’ 12”, this instrumental version too became an underground club hit, including a cult play at Fran Lenaer’s influential Valencia club, Spook Factory.   Played loud, the studio mastery, trickery and oft-accidental discoveries come to the fore, with tissue-damaging frequencies giving extra sound system shaking bottom end.

The B-side continues the band’s love of making extended mixes with ‘Dancing The Hard Bargain’.  Co-produced with Tim Parry (formerly of Blue Zoo), they threw everything at these 12” versions.  Able to relax and focus on the sounds they really liked, rather than the ones thought more commercial, this can be clearly heard on this compelling, percussive mix, a stop-start breakdown becoming a band hallmark. 
To close this collection is the mammoth ‘Bullet’.  Again sung by Whelan, an edited version of which debuted on the 1986 Survival compilation of Furniture tracks called ‘The Lovemongers’, here this previously unreleased original take is centred on a mesmeric tape loop, live drums and a guest appearance by violinist Helena Bjorelius.

In 2020, Leng Records quietly reached the ripe old age of 10 years old. To mark the achievement, co-founders Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy and Simon Purnell have compiled a special celebratory compilation featuring a mixture of historic tracks, overlooked gems, inspired remixes and previously unheard exclusives.

When founding the label, the pair wanted to represent the more chugging, mid-tempo end of the dance music spectrum – the point where 21st century nu-disco, Balearica and slow-house meets 1970s art-rock, krautrock and space disco. It’s this trademark cosmic disco-not-disco sound that dominates 10 Years of Leng, proving that the duo has rarely strayed from their sharply defined ethos.

Fittingly, the vinyl version of the compilation – a limited-edition affair which boasts a gatefold double-album and a bonus 10” single tucked inside – kicks off with an exclusive: the never-before-heard instrumental mix of Mudd and Harks’ joyous recent single ‘Susta’. Other exclusives across the collection include a wonderfully spacey and dubbed-out chunk of mid-tempo dancefloor fusion from San Francisco’s Cole Odin (‘The Numbers Game’) and, on the bonus 10”, brand new tracks from rising stars Lex and Harvey Couture.

From day one, Leng’s output has included commissioned remixes that are frequently the equal of, if not arguably an improvement on, the tracks being tampered with. That side of the label’s story is naturally represented on the compilation by a quartet of celebrated reworks: Mudd’s sleazy, mid-altering and insanely heavy ‘Slow Rave Mix’ of Tiago’s ‘The Source’, the glistening Balearic disco bliss of Max Essa’s instrumental version of Cantoma classic ‘North Shore’, Pete Herbert’s legendary piano-sporting nu-disco take on early Apiento gem ‘She Walks’, and an epic, dubbed-out Idjut Boys revision of Mountaineer’s ‘Golden Chalk’.

Elsewhere across the collection, Purnell and Murphy have chosen to showcase cuts from artists who have played a big part in Leng’s evolving story over the last 11 years. San Francisco’s 40 Thieves are represented by the druggy dub disco-meets-psychedelic rock chugger ‘Backwards Love’, while label mainstays Mushrooms Project offer up the even more psychedelic, rock-tinged headiness of ‘Hello Darling’. There’s also room for Turkish producer Ali Kuru’s inspired – and especially exotic – single ‘Luna’, and the low slung, always-rising cosmic disco heaviness of Fernando’s ‘Blue Impala’, an underground club smash for the label that first appeared in stores back in 2012.

Packed with sought-after tracks and overlooked gems, 10 Years of Leng is a fitting finale to the label’s first decade. In parts hazy, hallucinatory and heady, it deftly showcases the imprint’s refreshingly psychedelic and spaced-out take on contemporary electronic music culture.
