Random Alias - Innerchild [BOM001]

Label founder Holly Lester pools together a selection of her favourite artists from across the globe to form the first volume in the Duality Trax Visions compilation series.

100% of compilation profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, who provide medical care to casualties of war in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and much more. The organisation has also worked tirelessly to provide Covid-19 related aid to countries hit the hardest throughout the pandemic and are currently lobbying for a global waiver of patents on COVID-19 technologies.

Bouncing from the U.S to Europe, the VA travels through a multitude of moods and genres across seven tracks - including acid tinged electro from New York, breaks infused garage from Chicago, rave-fuelled house music from Belgium and a pulsating trance-inspired club track from Estonia.

There were glimmering colours and flickering lights which danced and bounced between the four walls of the grand old hall. Inside it revellers moved in a euphoric trance, engulfed by the saidas touch, a hypnotic force which bound them together and kept them moving in ignorant unison. It was a beautiful, magnificent thing - strangely fascinating to watch as each dancer moved simultaneously in time with the rumble and banging of drums as a myriad of colours exploded and flashed. 

Dj Willie Oboe is back and when I say that it will likely mean very little. However, if I were to tell you that it's a magical new moniker for one of the members of the infamous hardware inspired duo Frak you might be more excited. They are set to release a new EP on Lost Control, a somewhat more house focussed affair than their usual. However, it still carries that rough and ready, signature Frak sound.

Featuring melodic breakbeat from early San Franciscan rave act Enlight, moody Techno from James Bernard’s Cybertrax project (the track in question here having only seen the light of day on the 1994 ‘The Secret Life of Trance Volume 3’ compilation) and epic Trance-breaks from Germany producer Utasia. Bootleg style!?

The roars and cheers of the crowd cut through the air as throngs of people filtered into the festival. Luckily the low hanging clouds of the previous week had dissipated making way for the hot sun to take hold. Today felt monumental to most, there hadn't been an event like this in what felt like an eternity, and many had been counting down the days until the debauchery would begin. There were no grimaces or sad faces anywhere to be seen, just enthusiastic smiles and uncontainable excitement at the fun and chaos that would soon ensue... 

Following the cancellation of this year's Astropolis Festival, an event in Brest in the north east of France, the festival are continuing their pledge to support local artists and paying tribute to the DÔME stage dedicated to these talents by launching a new label. Since 2003 the festival has put out an open call to emerging DJs and producers with those selected going on to perform at the summer edition; instead this year the label, named after the stage, will provide this platform for artists. Kicking off with an inaugural four-track V/A, Astropolis welcome R&S alumni A-Sim, Boys Noize's Unklevon, Dance Around 88 boss Ringard and our pick, the party-fuelled fuzzy breaks of Midi Deux member and Lumière Noire label mate, Théo Muller.

Sawl's crispy bass waves create a dense acid feeling and sets the ground for Hibiscus to impact with its futuristic electro patterns and aggressive sharp drums.

Innerchild closes the record with a deep melodic journey modeled across euphoric sequences of notes, leaving a warm and wistful feeling...almost like coming back home.

Previously established as an event and podcast series based in Dublin, Yin Yang signifies its next step with a vibrant compilation of tracks which touch on dark undertones of techno right through to brighter mutations of DnB, hard-hitting jungle, futuristic electro and beyond. 

"Combining a stellar pool of sounds from across the spectrum of electronic music, Yin Yang marks a new beginning with the launch of its label and subsequent release of an exceptional 25 track various artist compilation. When opposites attract and align into the cycles of primary chaos and energy, seeping into elements of movement, dance and music to result in a new state of unwavering balance, the compilation is a prime example. 

 ‘Complex Contrast’ mirrors the vision of the imprint as a whole, bringing together a multitude of textures, tones and themes that collide and weave into one other for a visceral experience. A deluge of different soundscapes complete the V/A and every artist featured has brought an element of their own aesthetic to shape the direction of the label. Spiralling dark rhythms from Blue Hour, Gritty and unease mutation from Mutant Joe, cosmic melodies from SAAH, futuristic sounds from False Persona, D&B goodness from Ani Klang and Kessler, screwface techno from Rune Bagge and Offtrack and many more have come in strong to signify a resounding turning point in Yin Yang’s trajectory.

The compilation breathes in tandem with the listener and offers a slant in the shadows of what else is to come on Yin Yang’s schedule. Available in digital format, ‘Complex Contrast’ leaves a lasting impression with its interpretation of organised chaos, resulting in a perfect blend of kinetic and palpable energies to the end.

Without knowing it, he'd always steal the limelight away from her. She knew he didn't mean it, his personality and vivacity just shone brighter. That said, she had her fingers crossed he'd reign it in for just one night...

For the inaugural release on his brand new label Breakfast on Mars, Berlin-based DJ Random Alias sets the tone for what's to come. Titled Innerchild, while the A Side has both eyes fixed firmly on the dance floor flaunting crisp percussion, tight acid lines and futuristic driving electro, on the flip both tracks retain the pace but drift up into euphoric, celestial realms.

PRÉMIÈRE: Random Alias - Basilisk [Breakfast On Mars]

Adam Pits lands next for a debut on X-Kalay as one of the most talked about new producers circulating the UK underground. Based in Leeds, Pits has already attracted the attention and support of established players such as Subb-ann, Call Super and Ciel and left countless others scrambling to chase down his energetic club centric productions.

With his style drawing on the best elements of proggy house, breaks, trance and techno he delivers a solid EP for X-Kalay of driving club rhythms, UK bass and tranced out euphoria; the maturity of his craft seeming to belie this young producer’s relatively modest age.

We premiere title track “Piston Pump”, which provides something a little different than what we've come to expect with Adam's productions - yet demonstrating his broad flex to hit every corner of the dance floor. This cut errs on an almost video game-esque soundtrack tip, Duke Nukem style - slowly chugging its way through dystopian pixels and blocky future formations. It's also well worth listening to the mysterious Magicwire artist Bliss Inc. remix of this, flipping the downtempo vibes into a chugged out trancey peak time banger.
