After dropping no less than three compilations over the Summer months, 3024 shifts its focus back to releasing genre-defying EP's, this time by one of the brightest talents on the bass spectrum: Otik. 

The prolific Londoner brings us four excellent mood excursions ranging from the euphoric to the straight up nasty. Title track "Soulo" is the soundtrack for a post-covid world with its contemporary approach to m25 cornfield rave euphoria, while "Paradise Mode" reinterprets the deeper 90s Headz vibes of luminaries such as Lemon D and J Majik. "Lightyear Dub" is the penultimate 3024 track, with its sci-fi atmospheres and propelling beats and basslines, and will surely be a staple in many DJ sets. As the closer to this EP, "Garuna" is a rough, moody beast of a tune inhabiting that exciting 100-110 territory.

Otik - Paradise Mode (3024-OTK2)

Mantissa’s second venture into the label space comes from Bristol-born DJ / producer & radio host Bex. Percussive, heavy, bolty and jolty, the record is full of moments destined for those wanting to lose themselves on the dancefloor through Bex’s signature emotive soundscapes.

Her late 2021 debut EP release, “Feels EP” felt reflective and warm, influenced by the increased introspection during lockdowns over the past two years. Her second release, Mantissa 002, sees these emotions once again taking centre stage with added dance-ready grooves born out of the return and resurgence of the freedom to dance. The record combines those emotional notes with high energy sounds, futuristic harmonies and classic but experimental dance influences.

Bex is a Bristol native, the experimental and less orderly side to dance music a key influence to her creative efforts. Holding a dance show residency “Stocks & Shares” on Noods Radio since 2018, her sound has evolved through broadening her listening during the curation of monthly shows.

The whole style of the record is influenced by Bristol’s trademark sound, alongside this inspirations such as Om Unit or James Blake are subtly clear to hear. However, many of the moods projected throughout feel equally inspired by artistic influences beyond those of specific artists or locations. “Infinite Games” could just as easily soundtrack a sci-fi epic as it could move a dancefloor.

A unwelcome sight greeted him this morning when he woke up. The house seemed quieter than usual, the buzz of the radio wasn't ringing through the house, no smell of coffee filling the air, and the pointed telling offs and rallying of small voices nowhere to be heard. Descending the stairs he noticed things had gone missing; pictures had been pulled off the walls, ornaments taken from the sideboards, but worst of all there was no sign of his family. A sinking feeling hit him like a punch in the gut - deep down he knew they weren't coming back...

On the next release from the Programm camp, and the first from the label this year, producer Rawtrachs draws inspiration from J Dilla samples. Marking his debut single on the London-based imprint, ‘It’s Just a Rinse’ is a pounding lo-fi cut that comes complete with two reworks from Sneaker Social Club affiliate Thugwidow and OfParadise co-founder Fade, who take their remixes in different directions - Thugwidow upping the ante and Fade stripping back the original and adding signature percussive touches.

The artwork for this digital release is the label's first generative cover. Made in a similar way to digital music, alongside artists Matt Heywood and Alfie Allen, Programm have created a new tool to combine human and computer input to create visuals that could only exist together.

I met Dan at Sustain-Release in 2018 and have been nipping at his heels ever since. His work with Brooklyn-based rave outfit Sweat Equity provided a blueprint for us early on and he was one of the first remixes we commissioned for Sorry Records. His music has moved us throughout the years too from countless solo releases to his work alongside Austin Peru of Vision Fortune on their collaborative experimental ambient leaning project Dekalb Works. Dan's a constant joy and thankfully consistent presence in both our lives and on the NYC dancefloor. He's also dirty at bowling. We're so happy to present this latest release from Planet D complete with insane remixes from our own Drummy (Kindergarten Records) and west coast breakbeat legend Bassbin Twins.

Following a digital art renaissance, deconstructed-club tape on Lobster Theremin earlier in the year, and following their debut Berghain performance and Rinse FM Culture vs Reality residency, Overthinker Mob founder Bloomfeld readies six cuts of heavy-duty science techno and grime-laced fuck-step on Breaks N Pieces.

Whilst the Berlin based producers full length dealt with themes of live-action roleplay and anti-ego aesthetics, Probe Report 1 keeps its aim firmly fixated on the club experience. ‘Countdown Now’ is a mutated sequence of broken UK techno; wobbling, bleeping and wubbing its way through off-kilter percussion, icey synths and brooding bass. ‘U Damaged’ makes use of half-time percussive patterns and distorted bass on something that sits between dubstep and North African techno.

‘Window Matrix’ sounds not unlike the sounds emerging from Woozy Soundsystem in Dublin – again striking a delicate balance between 140BPM sound and future-facing techno – before we enter 140 territory entirely with a frightening soundboy grime-dub hybrid.

‘Phonk Off’ brings the tempo down a notch but maintains the high levels of energy thanks to its Pulse X-esque bass stabs and Walton-like textures, before the experimental music-box grime rhythms of ‘Glockk’ brings Bloomfeld’s melting and distinct experience to a close.
