Dark times are always followed by the bright ones. This spring the sky turns blue and sun comes from behind the clouds with this beautiful rework by the Air Miles resident Remotif (UK) of a collaboration between Kito Jempere and Maajo, a band based in Tampere, Finland, who are famous for their rare tropical breeze from the cold north. The sun streamed through the windows, promising a good day ahead. Life had become much simpler since she moved out into the countryside; no commute, no late nights at the office, no external pressures... Her priorities had changed, and with that her mood followed. Now she took pleasure in the small things; she celebrated the little wins; she always saw life as a delight.

It was 2018 when DJ and certified party starter CC:DISCO released the inaugural edition of her 'First Light' compilation into the world. It put a spotlight on talent coming out of her home turf of Australia—the likes of Sui Zhen, Nite Fleit, Jace XL and Angophora all featured. This is still true of the second iteration, which is set for release on 7th May, but this time she extends this to other countries across the world, highlighting prolific, upcoming and unsung artists from the likes of Russia, Zambia, Japan Sweden and many more. Sonically moving between house, trance, Balearic, disco and jazz, she compiles a whopping 24 tracks from names that already are, or will soon be, firmly on your lips, including Manami, Escape Artist, Jenifa Mayanja, Munir and Regularfantasy.

The news was unprecedented, it had come as a bitter shock to them all. As whispers were exchanged between greedy, opportunistic reporters the story began to circulate. It seemed as though this was to soon be the talk of the town and the end of the road. Never in his lifetime had he imagined a scandal quite like this, a doping scandal no less, on home turf. As the cameras began to flicker and flash he prepared to bid his farewells to the press room knowing all too well that this would be his last time on tv, let alone in the ring. 

Adam Curtain has a relentless output at present, he's releasing music at a furious pace. His next EP comes on Handy Records, the first outing on the label. The EP is rounded off nicely by a punchy remix from UTTU boss Dj Haus who enters the ring.

Boredom had set in, she'd been on the end of the line for what felt like eternity. Her fingers felt course from drumming on the table for so long; willing the time away so she could begin her life again. The music chirped loudly in her ear, the same snippet played on loop over and over and over again. Would she lose her mind waiting for an answer?

Set up to highlight the sounds coming out of their home of Los Angeles, Let's Play House's Nik Mercer and a fellow LA native have launched Zen 2000, an imprint that will platform friends and family who bear a deep connection to the Californian city. First up is a two tracker from House Of Ho, that sits somewhere between Hong Kong and the City of Angels, both sonically and in its origin, having been written, recorded and produced between the two locations.

Italian artist BLAKE is back on his TRITON RECORDS imprint this September with his ‘Chapter II: Black Panther’, including a remix from Orlando Voorn and a track featuring with Juan Atkins’ daughter Milan Ariel Atkins. BLAKE has released his works on labels such as the Chicago cult TRAX Records and Rebirth Records, among the most recent. BLAKE emphasises warm sonics emanating from his tapes, samplers, drum machines, and analogue synthesisers as a producer. In 2019, he launched his label TRITON RECORDS, reflecting his in-depth knowledge of the Detroit techno scene and his mission to reinterpret that original sound while sticking to its spirit and soul.  “This EP was conceived during the pandemic lockdown and it reflects some contradictory feelings of that period; the eagerness to return to clubs and social life together with the urgency of being more isolated and introspective while being fully immersed in the studio sessions. The result is an EP composed of different feelings and forms; a trip to Detroit’s essence with its electro, techno and piano melodies. It invites to stop and listen; it’s a call to arms of the musicians’ army for A REVOLUTIONARY ACT” - BLAKE ‘Consciousness Of The Masses’ gets the EP moving with glistening 808s, electro-tinged rhythms and acid elements spiralling above. Before ‘Black Panther’ lays down low-slung grooves, inviting piano melodies and Detroit-based singer, songwriter, and performer, Milan Ariel Atikins’ irresistible vocals. Up next, ‘Destroy The DJ’ pays homage to the Motor City as spacey modulations balance harmoniously with the dreamy synths and floaty fx that keep you enticed throughout. To round off proceedings, legendary Dutch artist Orlando Voorn’s remix with his signature soulful style as the shimmering drums bounce elegantly with the spirited undulations and uplifting atmospheres.
