Hailing from outer space via Reykjavik, Volruptus maps out intergalactic forms of communication on ‘Alien Transmissions’, the latest release from Bjarki and Johnny Chrome Silver’s inimitable bbbbbb records.

Bjargmundur, aka Volruptus, has been quietly doing his own thing for some time now and we’ve been receiving his music for more than a year and at some point it's just the right moment. 'Alien Transmissions' is a disorienting dose of acid powered electropunkfunk whilst ‘Jargon’ uses complex polyrhythms to propel a grinding techno stomper. ‘Gett Vffreakye’ uses percussive breaks and mechanised vocal chops to depict aliens having a live jam in outer space, whilst closing track ‘Tesseract’ is an angular drum workout featuring animated bass and dissonant pad calls.

Like each bbbbbb release before it, Volruptus presents an intoxicating EP that pairs impeccable sound design with an unruly approach to genre, form and style.

The silk felt soft to the touch as she ran her fingers across the folds, taking time to inspect each layer of material and its intricately placed beading. She'd never held something so beautiful in her hands, let alone worn such a garment. For a moment she felt unworthy of it, even though she'd worked long, hard hours to buy it. But those feeling soon faded as she put it on, this dress was made for her...

Finnish-born, Scotland-based DJ, producer and Acid Flash boss IDA takes her first steps into the label world with the launch of SÄVY, an imprint dedicated to exploring the different shades of music in relation to both emotion and art. Unwilling to be defined by categorisation or genre, the label will represent IDA's diverse tastes which are rooted in club-orientated music, and will provide a home for both upcoming and established artists. The first release is in the hands of Berlin-based techno producer Ryan James Ford who perfectly reflects IDA's love of acid-laced productions with Six Stair, a four tracker that blends contemporary and old school techno and breaks.

Popping The Cherry of 2020’s latest modern-contemporary record label; Step Ball Chain, is Roza Terenzi with “Stylish Tantrum”. Suggestive title to set the tone; the 5 track EP insisting sharp, sassy, high-tempered bombs with full bodied bounce. Unexpected tempo and timing variations, flared-up bpms, half time drum cuts and slicked modular flourishes, Terenzi’s signature cheek ramps up to an extra twisted club climate, atmospheric and evocative in texture as always. Featuring collaborations with D. Tiffany and Saoirse, the release covers extended dancefloor territory, assertive anthems delivering femme finesse, choreographed to perfection.

The A side fires up with an exuberant 4-by-4-2-the-floor routine, Cosmology. Vocal cuts from the queen Fiorella, billowing bells and dramatic synthetic sweeps to form fluidity over the tight bouncy low end. Whilst flirtatious melodic notions come and go, zip-lock percussion and commanding drumwork hold it down; squeaky steeze not-so-politely letting you know what’s to come. Deceivingly dubwise introductions soon furiously interrupted with Stylish Tantrum. Ricochet rhythms and bone breaking clap backs echo around your head, electrifying percussive fills and vocal spills snatching your attention before the everything glues together vicious harmony, baseline pulsating underneath a whiplash drum display - one for the dangerous deejays.

Chosen Family Feud opens the B side, a collab with seasoned associate @d-tiffany, showing off a bossy stomping brigade. Mumbling voices, waspy sirens and spooked out synth lines haunt the beginnings of the track, stripping back to a bassline breakdown before wailing vocals and clattered percussion take over, cymbals bursting. B2 is a moment to reflect, Illusions brings the energy down, low slung metallic backbeats thrown over encompassing, effortless pads and soaring resonance. The downtempo atmosphere crept up on by a double time d’n’b re-jig, softly gliding in over the growling sub, chopped breaks reflecting and falling. Closing out the record is another joint effort, recorded in Melbourne with @saoirsemusic ; Sxc saloon dashing back to the dancefloor, hot and deep. Throbbing bass married with slick galloping drums, sensuous fleeting whispers looping to draw you into hypnosis before a climactic tempo plummet intended to turn heads.

STEP01 is kicking its heels up, stomping, strutting and trailblazing for what’s to come.

We're closing our 2020 with a 14-track collection of recent label highlights as well as offering up four brand new and exclusive tracks including one from label founder Coloray. In keeping with the 18-month old tradition, we're proud to showcase a compilation that explores the outer edges of electronic music with an always experimental and leftfield perspective.

Coloray kicks off with a new track 'Viewing' which is a bustling broken beat with emotive vocals stitched into the mix next to soaring string sounds and rumbling bass that makes for a true intergalactic trip. Oppo Bala is a new act from Tilburg made up of Brian Omen and Atilla the Hun, and they impress with their exclusive offering 'Stickerbrush Wave', a deep, dynamic techno banger with an angelic vocal up top and high-speed synth loops and celestial ambiance that makes for a heavenly state of mind.

Another exclusive comes in the form of a label debut from Axefield, who runs his own Who's Susan label and has been making moves since 2016 on various labels. His excellent 'Slug' has old school breaks layered up with hypnotic leads and fizzing synth textures that really bring the energy. The fourth exclusive is by Ramses3000, who returns to the label after his excellent Ataraxia EP earlier in the year. His cutting edge sound on 'Aurelia' is all about drilling bass and drum programming that is overlaid with bright, glistening melodies from outer space.

The other 10 selections showcase a broad range of extra-dance floor styles released on Intercept in the past 12 months. Tracks from French II, Lewski, Tsepo, Ineffekt, Nina Indi, Ozzy, David Kochs, Baril, and Sam Goku naturally bring this multi-dimensional collection to an end and showcasing a vast array of talents, as well as a unique and contemporary electronic sound we're
