Secret Circuit - Green Mirror 2xLP PREMIERES

Three stunning remixes from Pattern Recognition, the 2021 album (and UK album dance chart #1) from GLOK, the electronic alter ego of Andy Bell from shoegaze legends Ride. The remixes were completed by different artists at different times, but these kindred spirits have produced a trio of tracks that come together with a righteous symbiosis that Lord Sabre himself would have revelled in. 

First up, Sean Johnston (A Love from Outer Space) and Duncan Gray (Tici Taci), in their Hardway Bros meets Monkton Uptown guise, deliver a monstrous dub version of That Time of Night. While the original was a luxurious electro groover, this remix will make speaker stacks crumble to dust with its immense bassline and seismic effects, while Shiarra’s intoned vocals seem to come at you from another dimension entirely.

Next up, Richard Sen returns to GLOK remixing duty, tasked once again with turning one of Andy’s sprawling 20-minute album openers (he did the job on Dissident last time out) into a relatively concise number perfect for the nation’s dancefloors and rave tents. Richard never disappoints and he repeats the trick by taking Dirty Hugs to the Krautrock-disco, setting some of Andy’s delicious guitar licks over a propulsive, hypnotic groove. 

Last but by no means least Tom Sharkett, guitarist with Manchester synthpoppers WH Lung, has channeled the ALFOS chug into his throbbing re-version of album closer Invocation. Tom has recently been signed to Optimo Music and his remix would easily slot into one of Johnny and Keith’s epic, eclectic DJ sets.

GLOK - That Time Of Night (Hardway Bros Meet Monkton Uptown Dub)

It had been a long time coming, the shackles were loosened and the people danced and rejoiced in the streets as if they'd never seen the daylight before.

That night they would gather to celebrate and sing songs from a time long ago, long before all of this. The hardships and the struggles of the recent age would be banished beyond the horizon for at least one night only before the fallout fell down.

This was freedom day, it would go down in history as such forevermore.

Chiwax release a new EP from Re:percussion, a Melbourne duo made up of Mitchell Gee and Jackson Gray who channel elements of classic House and Italo into a wonderful EP which will sound excellent on the beach this summer.

This is what dance music is and should be all about.

« Extra Muros - Switzerland » is a 12-track vinyl compilation composed in the framework of the 2022 Extra Muros music residency, which took place within the Museum ofEthnography of Geneva. Within the centre for creation and archiving of the Geneva-based museum, the musicians were able to discover one of Europe’s largest sonicarchives dedicated to field recordings and regrouping over120.000 entries and had a rare occasion to experiment ontraditional instruments as well as contribute to thecreation of a new unique sonic database.
Bio:
Organized by FLEE, Extra Muros is an annual itinerant art residency bringing together music producers and sound artists. During the program, the artists are invited to collaborate on music experimentation and production inan analogue music studio, built in collaboration with the Swiss Museum for Electronic Music (SMEM), Bastl Instruments, Various Instruments and Ableton.

Presented here are 21 new pieces (or 22 if you count the bandcamp-exclusive digital bonus) recorded between 2020 and 2022 which capture that spacey, otherworldly quality Secret Circuit is known for but they also very much veer into the warmer, earthier and generally more ambient textural territories of his E Ruscha V and Only Thingz work...an altogether softer sensibility. The fact that the second disc of the double album is primarily ambient further confuses the issue! But Secret Circuit this most definitely is!

From a plethora of demos (60+) Invisible Inc label boss GK Machine wanted to distill these down and explore a side of Ruscha's that he felt hadn't been heard before, focussing on Ruscha's more emotive yet at the same time experimental side. Is that a paradox? Well, let's say only very rarely do we hear modular synths doing something so human-sounding, and when these are juxtaposed alongside slide guitars, live bass and vocodered vocals, we have something very special indeed.

Then there's the artwork...all lovingly drawn by E Ruscha V himself and landing on our desk long after the record had gone into production and test pressings delivered and approved. The package is made complete with a double-sided colour insert with liner notes and another of Ruscha's mind-warping doodles. Oh and the liner notes are written in reverse so you'll need a mirror to read them. Of course they are!

To cut a long story short, everything about this release is archetypal classic Secret Circuit and couldn't be anyone else. A highpoint for the label in 2023, no doubt.

After 6 years, label boss Ewan Jansen circles back to Red Ember’s main with a new EP. 
A concept journey equally for the mind and the dancefloor that strays from his house roots with themes of mysticism pushing wider rhythm palettes and creative synthesis.

The opener ‘Solanoid’ marches over the horizon; a solid progression of sun-scorched chords, goaded by some distinctive chanting synths and driving bass.
‘Caravania’ answers as a stomping IDM-esque fable, joined by bubbling rhythms on the ground and a central writhing serpentine synth guided from high above by voices unknown.   
The flip side quickly de-camps from the physical, with the organic ‘Mistik’ seeing elements of rave and tribal electronica driven by tuned kicks, sub-bass and resonant rhythms.
Lastly, a stoic tome of stone and water is left with ‘Gecko’ – a skittish chunky groove, with isolated melancholic tones that find harmony in the end.

Her huge bay window felt like a porthole to the entire world. From here she could see everything; the towering skyscrapers that seemed to stretch beyond the clouds, the trees in shades of green, white and pink rustling in the soft afternoon breeze, and in the distance, the sea and the mountains promising an escape from the urban jungle. She watched the people go about their days - watched them argue and make up, greet and bid each other goodbye, stumble and fall, race and disappear - How funny that one window gave a view of so much life....

After a long and chaotic journey to completion, Invisible Inc have finally released Secret Circuit's double LP, Green Mirror, into the world. Almost two years in the making, the album sees the return of the project of LA native and audiovisual artist Edward Ruscha V following two EPs on the imprint in 2016 and 2018. Known for his music under several different bands, projects, guises and collaborations over the years, he's a dab hand at meandering in all kinds of directions, but on this release he focuses on balancing emotion and experimentalism, creating a collection of 21 pieces that bounce between the cosmic, the ambient, the otherworldly and the off-kilter. This is music for the open minded.

Label heads So.undso return once again on the Munich imprint Dance Petrol Records with their latest EP "Alte Spuren“! The EP features four original tracks, resulting from their latest experiments with elements from breakbeat, electronica, acid, electro and house.
The lead track „Gruppentour“ sets the tone for the EP with its driving breakbeat rhythms, infectious synth melodies, and expertly crafted transitions. Close your eyes and merge into Benedikt Frey’s 'Fastlane'. Imagine sitting in the driver’s seat of a an automobile, one with exceptional horsepower and torque, as you stare out the windshield at the red light, warping in fata-morgana a mile down the road. It’s a straight-away, a black top with two lanes, and against your better judgment you decide to floor the gas. No hesitation in your muscle, your ankle or the ball of your foot, which you now realize is some kind of universal pivot, the first point of contact fusing your body with the will of machine. In this moment you’re in awe that you, a human, an animal, grew from pond scum into something so advanced as to engineer this thing, a mechanical beast capable of overwhelming power and exhilaration. But you also feel a seductive dread, an outside force diverting you from caution toward a dangling carrot of curiosity, asking yourself, ‘How far can I take this thing?’ The dread, now a constant, is numbed, equalized by an adverse intoxicating gratification. You feel both sensations in real time, however, rather than take responsibility for yourself, friends, family and innocent bystanders, you cement your foot to the floor and lean your head back. Noise around you fades to mute. Smell the benzene-scented air, feel the wind on your face, the menacing vibration of the vessel you control beneath you and every grain of asphalt under its tires. This mile has now lasted an eternity and you’ve left your body for some objective view, as if watching climax of a film. Past the point of no return, you embrace abandon and lean into fate. The film becomes slow motion, a crawling pace so mesmerizing you convince yourself of an option to eject yourself from this madness, but as you finally let go of your last morsel of fear, you run the red light head-on into the nucleus of a fantastic glistening sculpture of torn metal, glass, oil, broken dreams and heartache. 'Fastlane' may be just drum machines and synthesizers if you’re timid, but listen harder and know the catastrophic reality of existence, a wreckage so gruesome we dare not rubberneck, but afterall it is our nature to stare.
