Since launching in 2018, Pieter Jansen’s yeyeh label has excelled at delivering unusual and inspired collaborations between artists who have never worked together before. Jansen’s desire to bring together musicians, composers and producers from different disciplines – for example classical Theremin player Carolina Eyck and previously club-focused electronic musician Eversines, or legendary Dutch jazz singer Greetje Bijma and off-kilter ambient artist Oceanic – has resulted in some genuinely magical, transformative and unusual music that defies categorization. To continue the series, the Amsterdam-based curator and label owner has looked East to the Polish jazz underground. 

‘Sariani’, yeyeh’s latest collaborative release, brings together two stalwarts of Poland’s vibrant experimental jazz scene: saxophonist and composer Jerzy Mączyński, who impressed with his 2019 debut album ‘Jerry&ThePelicanSystem’ and Waclaw Zimpel, a much-travelled clarinet player whose most recent releases cleverly combine the slowly shifting electronic textures of ambient with his deep-rooted love of experimental and free-jazz.

‘Sariani’ has its origins in the friendship between Mączyński and Zimpel that developed during the early stages of the global Coronavirus pandemic. After many happy hours spent discussing life, music and Indian culture – the latter a shared interest that would shape future recording sessions – Mączyński offered Zimpel the chance to join forces on what he initially intended to be his second solo album. Over the eight months that followed, recording sessions in two separate Warsaw studios saw the set – a far-sighted meditation on Mączyński’s travels to India – develop into a genuinely collaborative production and a unified artistic vision.

The pair lay down a marker on opener ‘Raga or Raga’, a musical translation of the Book of Rag where increasingly expressive saxophone – a mixture of undulating, stretched-out solos and droning motifs – metamorphose as the track progresses, cleverly matching the increasing intensity of the trance-inducing modular electronics that bubble beneath before surging forwards towards a breathless conclusion. You’ll find a similar musical narrative – albeit with bolder free-jazz notes and more intense electronics – on the album’s closing track, ‘Pools Games’.

‘Temple of Jetsu’, an especially spiritual composition, fuses the melodic cycles of classic minimalism with similarly slowly unfurling electronic motifs and luscious ambient textures, while the title track – a meditation on the plight of women in India – delivers a beautiful but sometimes uneasy mix of densely layered minor-key sax sounds, exotic and intoxicating solos, off-kilter electronic rhythms and enveloping synthesizer textures.

Guest musician Szymon Wójcik, who had previously travelled to Nepal with Mączyński, provides glistening guitar textures on ‘Everest Inn’, a kind of musical translation of a Himalayan sunrise. Like the track that follows, the tactile, soft-touch joy of ‘Katakhali Masks’, ‘Everest Inn’ offers a new blueprint for ambient jazz. It’s this distinctive musical fusion – the acoustic and the electronic combined with the mystical and far-sighted – that marks out Mączyński and Zimpel’s first collaborative work. It’s a genuinely revelatory and intoxicating album.

Unsurprisingly, this results in an exploration into a darker, trancier side of his musical spectrum. 

The two of us having developed a deep bond over the years is clearly reflected in how this album came together. It's the third collaboration between the two of us, of which many more to come! ❤️

PAN is excited to announce the release of Objekt’s debut album, 'Flatland'. Written between 2012 and 2014, 'Flatland' follows up a succession of dynamic single releases from his base in Berlin, including the recent split 12” with Dopplereffekt on Leisure System, "Cactus" b/w "Porcupine" on Hessle Audio and three 12” singles on his eponymous white label series. His recorded work so far has toyed with techno and electro conventions and has turned dancefloor tropes on their head, tickling the boundaries of what can or can’t constitute an effective club record.

Approaching the album format on its own terms, Objekt makes full use of the larger canvas to explore a framework of competing truths, multiple perspectives and conflicting accounts. 'Flatland' imagines a world in which any scene can be seen from every angle at once. Semblances and cross-references entwine the eleven original tracks and Objekt’s existing recordings, shaping a powerful and absorbing album that weaves between the alien and the hauntingly familiar.
This is an effervescent body of work, its sound design evoking vivid imagery and conveying the same unmistakeable sense of detail and movement for which Objekt has become known. On his first attempt, Objekt has constructed a mature and multilayered album with its own story to tell, from whichever angle you choose to approach it.

The album is mastered and cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy, pressed on a double 140g vinyl & CD. It features photography by Joe Dilworth and artwork by Bill Kouligas & Kathryn Politis.

It's an absolute honour and privilege to be given the chance to release this beautiful collection of tracks with so many collaborators involved in the process. A uniquely 3LP compiled by @silverlining-dubs & yours truly. A testament to an unbelievable group of friends that were following their heart in the studio.. This compilation just catches a glimpse of the vast amount of (un)released sonic wizardry with one person that ties all these tracks together; Asad Rizvi.

The triple vinyl LP includes some hard-to-find numbers by Two Right Wrongans, Impossible Beings, Appleheadz, and more, with one previously unreleased song rescued from DAT archives. The album was mastered beautifully by Dubplates & Mastering , the sleeve features stunning artwork by Drawn Surface, Wimswim and Nol Cobben, with extensive sleeve notes by Harold Heath and Asad himself.

The 'Collaborations 3LP' album will have 500 initial copies pressed and is out 6th of September at your fav recordstore. Silverlining will also be publishing the digital downloads on his Bandcamp later on.

Since yeyeh brought them together in 2019 to record their first collaborative album, Swallow a Party, Oceanic and Greetje Bijma have become firm friends. The connection they first felt in the studio has led not only to the regular exchange of musical ideas and song sketches, but also lengthy conversations about life and art.

One of the strongest connections that helped shape their growing creative partnership is not musical, but personal. Both grew up in coastal communities at different ends of the Netherlands and the sensory impact of living close to the North Sea and Wadden Sea, respectively, made a long-lasting impression.

This connection gave them an idea: why not use the Wadden Sea, an intertidal zone of the North Sea situated between the Frisian Islands and the Dutch Coast, as a thematic inspiration for their next album. Oceanic and Bijma exchanged memories of wonderous wetlands, the salty smell of sea air, seemingly never-ending tidal mudflats, the distinctive calls of rare seabirds, and the look and feel of local flora and fauna. 

When they gathered in Studio Het Rode in Roderwolde for three days of improvised recordings based on existing ideas, Oceanic and Bijma set out to create music, through a mixture of voice and electronics, inspired by the mental sounds and images that appeared when they thought about the Wadden Sea’s celebrated landscapes. Extended improvisations were recorded, before Oceanic edited them down and they collaborated shaped the finished versions with added texture and structure.

The resultant album, Sykheljende Lûden (Frisian for “breathing sounds”), wears its central inspiration lightly, with many of Bijma’s startling and expressive vocalisations and Oceanic musical motifs subtly hinting at tidal flows, bird calls, and the comforting feeling of home that the environment stirs in both artists. It is not ‘landscape music’ in the strictest sense of the term, but rather music partially inspired by their personal psycho-geographies and nostalgic memories of their former coastal homes.

Sykheljende Lûden is frequently both majestic and mesmerising, with Bijma showcasing the full dynamism and expressiveness of her vocal range and Oceanic conjuring electronic sounds, rhythms and textures that combine his long-stated love of both club music and emotive experimentalism. From the bubbly bliss of opener ‘Away From Home’, to the ambient-operatic moodiness of closing cut ‘Peace In Mind’, via the soft-spun sweetness of ‘Golden Sun Skin’, spaced-out minimalism of ‘Dripket’ and the rhythmic creepiness of ‘Veugel’, Sykheljende Lûden is a unified artistic vision that owes as much to the duo’s coastal roots as it does to their evolving creative partnership.

Our lives crossed over ten years ago, and the past six years saw us grow into a deep friendship. All four tracks were made around the time of preparation for a Breakfast Club ADE 2021 with De Lichting live. Three years later, we are releasing these solo club cuts.

Midday Moon is a survey of ambient and experimental music that emerged from Australia and New Zealand between 1980 and 1995. These recordings are sourced from a rich variety of micro-labels, private pressings, theatre soundtracks and artists’ personal archives.

Curated by Melbourne based DJ and archivalist, Sanpo Disco (a.k.a Rowan Mason), the collection delves deep into the world of outsider music that emerged in Australia and New Zealand in the latter half of the twentieth century, as synthesisers and early workstations began to enter the consumer marketplace.

The noise in the jungle was radiant and full of life. It echoed through the ages and cast a spell outwards into the city which sat nestled on the outskirts of the deep green forest. Amidst the trees there was a deep flurry of beautiful life and magical creatures. Water ran gently through long running streams and wild animals gathered at the edge of the river bank to drink. Watching from a whizzing helicopter up high above it would seem like they were from another world. The insect swarmed around the tall trees with a hestitant gaze.
