On the remix duties is highly talented Lea Lisa from the Wolf Music fame. For her 303 Mental Remix she adds an irresistible acid bassline (quelle surprise) and creates probably the most peak time-affine tune of the whole EP. Shuray & Walles first extended player is a perfect example for reduced but clever arrangements and above all for the fact that the best ship is friendship.“

As two differing sides to the emotive spectrum, there is plenty here to dive into, and helps to serve us up very nicely indeed to their latest effort, ‘Sunswell’, their first record together in three years. Inkeeping with their most recent efforts, the duo waste no time in bringing forward some truly special vibes, with the title track kicking things off in spectacular fashion. Simmering, engrossing synths start preceedings, before a delightful breakbeat slides into view underneath, with 90s leaning vocal samples fuelling the momentum as we slide onwards and upwards. The additional key work which comes into view around the half way mark ensures that the heart and the soul are both very much fulfilled.

Driving through the night the rain began to pour heavily down upon the windscreen. It had been coming for some time, the clouds had gathered and grown thicker by the hour throughout the day as they swerved between lanes and through fields they'd never see again. Heaven only knew where they were travelling to and where they might end up. 

That wasn't important. 

As the sky darkened all around them there was only one thing in their mind, freedom. For they'd been stuck in that bleak small town for far too long and now they were looking for something far beyond it. The rain was mother nature's way of reminding them of the damp and dreary world from which they would soon be free.

Stelios Vassiloudis is delicately remixed by pioneering dance music producer Funk D'Void who somehow manages to channel as much beauty as he does club ready promise into what is a simply magical track.

After her stunning release on our deeper House focused Karakul label, we are over the moon to welcome back Swiss producer Lea Lisa on our main Phonica imprint.

The ‘Love To The End EP’ takes influence and inspiration from a particular early 90s UK Techno rarity by Mark Goddard titled ‘The End’ (The Truth EP), a beautiful and emotive take on the classic sound of UK Techno that’s been much loved and highly sought after for decades, even being a particular favourite of Aphex Twin. It’s an ode to the original, rather than a remix or cover. The two mixes re-imagine the sound of soulful and deep Techno, combining driving basslines and drum machine grooves with atmospheric and nostalgic synth lines.

On the A-Side’s ‘Manchester Club Mix’, the focus is laser focused on peaktime dancefloors with a slowly building level of euphoria matched with rolling drums until the breakdown chills the mood and the plucky, earth shaking bassline returns before the tension is released and the melodies float effort- lessly around the pounding rhythm.

Over on the B-Side, the ‘Sunset Mix’ jacks up the drums with kicks and claps that shake your spine. The bassline rolls steadily throughout the mix but the melodic lines this time are more restrained, introspective and subtle, echoing and harking to past rave memories with ease...

Next up in our Premiere series we have Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson remixing Neapolitan producer Partenope, who takes a strong influence from the likes of Underground Resistance, for a deep cut on the Neapolis label. 

Partenope certainly wears a big Underground Resistance influence on his sleeve in the case of 'Odysseia' - it's even mentioned in the press release, and we're not going to argue either.   But it's no bad thing, especially as it's a general love of the soulful, uplifting, musical end of the techno scale rather than a creative plunder of any UR track in particular.  The label has pulled out the big guns with a Gerd Janson remix to accompany it too, and Janson certainly delivers with his warm production bringing out the best via three way acid trance techno hybrid.

Enchantment is the name of number thirteen on Funnuvojere Records. It comes from Eamon Harkin, the Brooklyn-based Irish producer, DJ and label owner, known for founding long standing New York parties Mister Saturday Night & Mister Sunday. These parties have given birth to Nowadays, a permanent club space fast becoming a renowned New York institution. Harkin’s Mister Saturday Night Records has been a guarantee of quality music over the past decade and his productions have appeared on respected labels all over the world.

On Massimiliano Pagliara's label, Harkin's Storytelling EP is a four-track exploration of sonic sensations, marked by a minimalistic approach and a maximalist sound design. A bold bass line, distorted industrial pads and bouncy synths are the materials with which the opening track Reactance is built - a classic banger for sweaty late night dance floors.  Multiple string sequences jostle effortlessly in Dolphins, a Detroit-inspired track that has us floating in oceans deep. 

Lead single Enchantment is an 8 bit experimentation of house music with electro - euphoric, direct and beautifully harmonious. Title track Storytelling resounds as a polyrhythmic funk track, tinged with romantic melodies and alien pads. It closes this EP, elegantly highlighting the breadth and subtlety of Harkin’s musical knowledge and production skills.

Having garnered a lot of support like Dixon, Mano Le Tough, Tom Trago, Tsugi, Libération or Vogue upon the release of his debut album Hidden Places last May, Cosmonection continues in the same vein in November with the release of an extended version. With four new original tracks and four exclusive remixes, the young French talent marks another milestone and the closing of his Hidden Places’s chapter.

"I wanted to bring a new chapter to this first album, with sweet and nostalgic tracks closing what has been a great adventure for me.
