1)	Introduce yourself?

My name is Alex or Aleksandr (btw most popular name on a planet). Im Russian but am living in Vilnius, Lithuania for 4 years. Bipolar, hate winter, love to drink. 

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months? 

Recently I bought a good mango for 1 eurO. If I have to go back a bit further - I finished my album including great collaborations with Abrao, Otto and many more (but not sure you will hear it for the next two years).

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year? 

Gonna continue to buy mangos if discount price freezes. But if serious - some good records are scheduled for 2018 with Le Temps Perdu, Hard Fist, Feines Tier and Multi Culti. Listening first test press just now - doesn't sound like me, which is a good thing.

Boundary-pushing composer and sound designer Andi Otto returns with his new album ‘Rwandance’, which sees live instruments, studio recordings and sampled archival material melded together as part of an electrifying reimagining of the musical traditions of Rwanda.

‘Rwandance’ is a collaboration between Rwandan dancer and musician Evariste Karinganire and cello player and electronic music producer Andi Otto, brought together by a chance connection. Inspired by Steve Reich, Mark Pritchard’s Harmonic 313 and Otto’s mesmerising musical experiences touring India, Otto built software to translate the intensity of Karinganire’s hand claps into different synth notes - the structure and time signature of traditional Rwandan music providing the framework for Otto’s creations, new instruments and sounds incorporated into its parameters.

Otto follows a path similar to many producers from Latin America’s burgeoning electronic music scene but instead of using Andean folk music as a starting point, he reappraises Rwandan music mirroring traditional sounds but similarly, reimagined through a contemporary lens. ‘Rwandance’ follows Otto’s 2016 link-up with Indian singer and actress M.D. Pallavi and underground hit ‘Bangalore Whispers’, a showcase for his original approach to cross-cultural musical dialogue. He has since cemented that reputation with subsequent albums “Via” and “Bow Wave”, weaving global sounds into his distinct sonic approach.

Shika Shika is a home for music that combines organic and electronic sounds, a meeting place between the past and the future. (They also put an emphasis on supporting artists, splitting profits in their favour.) This chimes exactly with what Otto wanted to achieve in his collaboration with Karinganire, taking deeply-rooted traditions and giving them a new sonic make-up.

Japanese artist Maiko Okimoto aka Lemna returns to Horo following her acclaimed EP for the SNTS helmed label ‘Sacred Court’. Retrocausality is 2 EP’s that continue her genre-less approach to electronic music. Aligned most closely to the Grey Area sound that Sam KDC and ASC have been expanding on in recent years, Maiko’s approach is singular. The reality of her music working on dance-floors for Techno audiences is a happily incidental result and not a structural design. Maiko’s music comes entirely from an innate feeling transferred into grooves and ethereal ambience.

Retrocausality works with the concept of the crossover between the spirit world and science - for example, the commonality of thoughts and theories in Buddhist philosophy and Quantum Physics. The realms of these are divided, but essentially the concepts are similar.

The EP’s title ‘Retrocausality’ implies that we can perceive this world from both in terms of ‘A Priori’ (from cause) and ‘A Posteriori’ (from result).

The tracks on Retrocausality represent an accurate cross section of Maiko’s musical style, from the other worldly ambience of Supervoid to the rhythmic winding of Thusness and the heads down floor tunnel of Sattva.

At a time when electronic music is becoming less adventurous as a whole, Lemna represents a beacon of intrigue.

There was a strange, mysterious object which floated in the dense night sky. It flashed an electric green, illuminous and weird amidst a backdrop of delicate stars. It left a lot to the imagination - what was inside? Who was in flight? Were these creatures from the great beyond? It had been a long time since they'd last seen a UFO around these parts, not since the hot and heavy summer nights of the sixties. Then again, who knew what they'd seen way back then in the days of old. It was but a blur to him, a psychedelic haven of rage and madness.

A little while back we featured a mix from the ever playful musician and producer Your Planet Is Next. A Scandinavian superhero of sorts who has come to save the day from snobby enthusiasts and those who take life too seriously. He appears on a new split EP for Warning Records with a track called "UFO".

From the haze of that unknown place stumbles an amorphous form, babbling incoherent and languidly forcing themselves upright. The silhouette now ridged and fixed, begins running fiercely towards an unseen target. Bursting out of the unseen, rushing into the sterile, luminosity of street lights, the figure now rabid and ravenous. Moving fluidly through the bustle of populated streets, dodging, bounding over implements, pouncing on empty space. Through fields, through forest, upwards upon cliff faces, plunging into the midnight blue of icy pools, an outline relentlessly chasing a spectre lost in the dark.

Taking inspiration from tropical climates and vintage synthesisers, Ransom Note family Timothy Clerkin returns with his new release, "Kuiba" off his upcoming Acia EP. Released on the trailblazing NYC label, Throne of Blood records, Clerkin’s genre bending, anthemic, pounding cuts are sure to kill dance floors the world over.
