After the success of Casey's first chapter on For Those That Knoe, he returns with three more liquid techno tracks, unearthed from his 90s archive. Two unreleased pieces are pressed alongside an absolutely rare deep gem from the Fine Balance vaults. 

Following on from BST on Knoe 2/1, Tanita is bright and melancholic; bringing its phased soaring pads and slippery acid funk to grace the A-side of Knoe 2/1. Yet again Casey delivers a unique take on Techno, shattering those preconceptions of the genre's dark and moody melodies with warmth, swing and harmony. 

The flip sees Stratosphere, a stand out track from FINE 002 moves to the outside of the B-side. From the highs of Tanita, Casey drops the EP down into the abyss with a haunting lead, moody pads and a squelchy arpeggiated synth. The track speaks through the pure emotion of the harmonies Casey creates; able to tell a number of stories through his melody, Casey yet again surprises with his aptitude for creating something so simple and classic yet utterly fresh and new.

The B2 plays host to a perhaps more stereotypical 90s style tech house track. Up in the skies with the likes of BST and Tanita, the chord stabs and intrinsic delay patterns of Secret Desires breathe funk over swinging rimshots and sizzling hi hats. The track sets itself apart from most 90s tracks with clever arrangements, an unpredictable but bumping bass line and some fine live work on the synths and groove boxes.

Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad, aka STERAC, joins the Klockworks ranks with an outstanding four-track EP, set for release on June 23rd.

For almost 20 years, Steve Rachmad has concentrated on the kind of melodic, grooved club tracks that DJs love, releasing on labels such as Music Man, Rejected, Tresor and Wolfskuil. Over this time, he has been responsible for some of techno's true classics, 'Astronotes', 'Asphynx' and 'Thera' to name a few. The particular tracks signed by Ben Klock for KW12 draw from a number of the styles STERAC has explored over the years, and each add something else of their own.

Opener 'Track 2' is punchy and brilliantly executed, setting the tone for the rest of the EP. It centres around coarse mid-range notes that develop throughout and bind the warm lows with high-frequency hiss.

Rachmad uses a similar sound palette on 'Rotary', a track that featured prominently in Ben Klock's Fabric mix CD. This time he opts for a more spacious mix, allowing the unpredictable texture of hardware to create a retro bassline sure to get any crowd moving.

'In Circles' is deep and moody, but with uplifting strings and a Detroit feel. The strings give 'In Circles' the 3-dimensional, sci-fi quality that often marks out techno of the highest order, they are bouncy but reserved in their arrangement, keeping the track's energy in perfect balance.

'Scheepsrecht' ends this release in style. The producer weaves the core elements with canny arrangement and an endlessly-dynamic mix, resulting in hypnotic, hard-as-nails club gear.

Bringing old-school production values up-to-date and keeping that unmistakable Dutch flavour, STERAC shows another side to the Klockworks sound. KW12 is sure to be on constant rotation amongst techno DJs of all styles, and will prove itself to be yet another essential Rachmad record.

In 2011, Julia Thompson (DJ Black B1tch) gave me a TDK SA90 tape of a spontaneous live jam by Insync recorded in her flat in Forest Hill, South London in March 1991. She had found it in a drawer when clearing out stuff. She gave it to me to listen to simply thinking I might be interested in hearing it. Of course I was, particularly because the date on the tape immediately told me that the session was recorded more than a year before the release of Insync's debut, the seminal Storm on Irdial Discs. In fact Storm was recorded before this session but not released for more than a year after it. The A side of the cassette is a live jam comprising a bass-line/repeating melody and one other four-note motif. Other than that, Lee Purkis rinses a Yamaha SH101, SPX90, Roland 909 drum machine and some delays, to create a 43 minute journey that passes through beautiful elegiac ambient passages to crashing drums that had me nodding my head to the point that I had to force myself to sit still because of the shooting pains in my neck. Insync was accompanied by Paul Chivers aka Ramjack. Ramjack was playing an Ensoniq Mirage containing samples of himself playing various percussion instruments. I listened a few times to see if there were four 7+ minute sections that could be released as an ep. I thought there were, and here they are. Lee Purkis gave his permission for Third Ear to release the cuts, and the whole jam (available as 3eep201409). Next I contacted Stefan Betke at Scape Mastering to ask if he would listen to the tape to assess whether he could create a master that would sound good enough on a big sound system. Together we decided that he could. The sound quality of these cuts is a testament to Lee Perkis' sound engineering and to Stefan Betke's mastering. Judge for yourself.

A true product of Toronto's thrillingly cosmopolitan Grooving Pot, this Chinese-Italian duo is quickly earning a rep for crafting highly effective acid tracks with just a hint of banger. They initially earned notice with their first EP, 'Vaporizer,' on This Is Music, before making fans out of some big names with THESE tracks, with Brodinski championing 'Body Acid' and forcing Turbo's A&R Vibetrust to perk up their unbelievably jaded ears. If you aren't sold on the Ontario-buzz, then maybe you'll pay attention to two awesome remixes by the bombest Bulgarian, Kink. The 'Deep' mix is a lush, throbbing body-rub, and the 'Acid' version is a highlight-reel of peak time mayhem, already caned and charted by Erol Alkan and Tiga. If nothing else, 'Body Acid' is a vital reminder that acid goes into your body. That's just the way it works.

The group was a tight knit collective, a merry band of brothers. Togetherness was everything to the gang, nestled within the woods they marched prominently amongst the golden, crispy leaves. The autumn evening was surprisingly warm and the trees cast long shadows outwards over the lakeside. Sparking the fire they grouped together by the water and watched as the stars appeared one by one, speckled across the midnight twilight. It was beautiful.

The German-based imprint Blaq Numbers, who have played a pivotal role in exposing the world to the sounds of producers such as Jesse Bru, Explorer of the Humankind, and DJ Psychiatre, are gearing up to release music from yet another talented musician. This time, it is London artist Last Nubian, who has only been on soundcloud for about a year now. Having grown up being inspired by the likes of Flying Lotus, Mndsgn, Theo Parrish, Last Nubian is making a name for himself by crafting rhythms and beats that often feel nostalgically familiar but manage to take the best from the worlds of hip-hop and house. A crate digger through and through, Last Nubian showcases his diverse musical background on his forthcoming EP Reunion by delivering catchy dance floor melodies that will appease the crowd while satisfying the palettes of heads alike.
