Who better to kick off the inaugural release of SOBO [Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest] than Patrick Holland, best known as Project Pablo. Affiliated with the Canadian Riviera's 1080p troupe, as well as Seb Wildblood's Church and Lone's Magicwire – Holland now adds Beaubien Dream as the fourth instalment to his 12" series. The Beaubien connection comes from Montreal's Rue Beaubien, of which Holland is a resident. SOBO is headed up by fellow longstanding citizens of the Beaubien Ouest hood, Arbutus Records and their extended family – of which Holland is an instrumental part.

An initial teaser of the EP's opening "Closer" was aired publicly during Holland's BR London set back in October, as well as his NTS appearance with Lone and Gabriola earlier this year. Now, after a patient seven-month wait, we can finally wrap our mitts around it in its entirety. Alongside its two subsequent components, the track acts as a homage to Holland's home. With its distinctive Dx7 melodies, jingly percussion provided by bells (of the cow variety amongst others) and an insatiable groove growing lazily throughout – "Closer" is instantaneous happiness.

Detroit veteran Andres is no joker. With a bunch of EPs and albums under his belt, released on KDJ and Mahogani music amongts others, he's played a big part in exporting Motor City's house sound over the past ten years. Having graced the most recent FOMDO 12” release with his signature touch, Andres returns on the imprint with an alternate take on the same track. Taking the classy disco cut ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’ into moodier, deeper territories, with freshly chopped vocals and a hazy hip-house bounce, it’s a warm late-night stepper, laced with classic OG Detroit funk. Anyone who has been following the music industry the past few years knows this fact: Vinyl sales are up! And up big! In fact, sales of vinyl in 2016 reached a 25-year high as consumers young and old have found new satisfaction from embracing physical formats of music.

However, this recent trend did not happen out of thin air. Independent labels, like Helsinki imprint Common Labour, have been the influencers behind the scenes making the shift happen by implementing policies where they exclusively release material on vinyl only formats. This has been a policy at Common Labour since their start in 2013, and although I doubt the journey has been easy, the label has developed one of the strongest discographies in the underground house scene – sporting phenomenal releases from the likes of artists such as Lukas Lyrestam, Kask, Powel, and Saine.

To celebrate this 5-year journey, the Finnish collective has decided to come out with a new compilation as part of their Odd Jobs series. Aptly titled Odd Jobs Vol. 3, this record pays homage to their hand-stamped, sticker-sealed history. Consisting of 4-tracks, this release features music from the likes of Sames, pothOles, Thomas Wood, and Bolting Bits fave Nachtbraker!

For the A1, the Dutch producer has come out with his very own original Tobogo, which goes much deeper than his usual array of turbo-funked disco bangers. This song actually gives off a distinctly more techno vibe than what we’re used to, and we like it! The tension Nachtbraker is able to establish from the get-go is something to behold, and he does his best in building it up and bringing it down throughout its entirety. Our favorite moment comes in around the 2 minute mark, when he uses a simple vocal sample to cut through all the angst like butter – unleashing a groove that you can’t help but bob your head too.

Citizens Of Vice is a new label that is not trying to take itself too seriously. For it's debut release it kicks off with a sampler that bookends it's musical demographic, Disco, House and Balearic vibes with a nod to the heady days that have inspired the labels creation. Here we've got their very own track that is an ode to the legendary Ibizan Hotel/Venue 'Pikes'. Its fair to say we know exactly why they made a track dedicated to this wondrous venue as we had a raaaaather good time there this summer! If you've never been, GO! You wont regret it.

‘Livingstone’ is the 5th album by a nine-piece instrumental collective from Amsterdam called Jungle By Night. A jazzy blend of krautrock, rock, electronica and pop in one place. The latest transmission from the Lumberjacks stable taps up London-based producer Alan Dixon, who tackles a soul-stirring gospel belter from Frank Booker on the A side. Whatever your spiritual persuasion, "Rise & Shine" can't help but inject a little joy into your life. On the flip, Dixon turns the piano house power up to 11 with the life-affirming thrust of "Whatcha Gonna Do", featuring Maleke O'Ney on vocal duties. Completing the set, Lumberjacks head honcho Marcel Vogel drops in a remix that twists the original into a loose and limber jazz-funk-house odyssey of epic proportions.
