Volume 005 of our PRO series comes with the signature of Benjamin Fröhlich, a pivotal figure in electronic music seamlessly combining the roles of DJ, producer, and co-founder of the very influential Permanent Vacation label.

Born and bred in Munich, Germany, Fröhlich's musical journey ignited in the early 2000s assuming the ownership of a hometown record shop which would shape his path in the industry significantly.

Fueled by his passion for music, he delved into DJing, organizing underground parties that propelled him from a hobbyist to a professional.

Despite the closure of his record shop in 2008, the inception of Permanent Vacation was already a reality. A venture co-managed with Tom Bioly, that almost 18 years later stays in excellent shape, releasing timeless music several times a year.

The label, established in 2006, has been the powerhouse of renowned artists like Todd Terje, John Talabot, Fort Romeau, Lauer or Massimiliano Pagliara.

Beyond curation and DJing, Benjamin's also been into making vibrant records during the last decade for Live At Robert Johnson, Optimo Music, Slam City Jams and his own label, of course. Pleasure Principle Vol.1, his latest addition to a long list.

To all intents and purposes, Benjamin Fröhlich is an unwavering force steering electronic music ever-evolving soundscape.

The seventh installment of our PRO series comes from Berlin's lively electronic music scene, in which our new guest shines as a brilliant DJ and hit-producer.

Originally from Würzburg, Germany, Johannes Albert's musical journey from house and disco to techno, acid, and beyond began in his youth. His likable nature and crowd-reading skills, helped him transition from hometown clubs and private parties to a staple in the German electronic music scene.

Touring globally nowdays, his DJ sets still reflect an open-minded approach, fusing modern disco and house with acid, dropping classics, and embracing other genres.

Johannes wears multiple hats as a DJ, producer, and the force behind Frank Music and Fine. Frank Music is mainly the platform for his own productions, including several albums in his catalogue, both solo and together with Iron Curtis. I:Cube, Biesmans, Fred P, and others have also contributed. Fine is rooted to ignite the dancefloor with house music in collaboration with his partner in crime Tilman.

Worth to mention that his work can also be found on other well-known imprints such as Permanent Vacation, Live at Robert Johnson, Uncanny Valley, Future Disco or Renate Schallplatten. 

Johannes Albert is without question a key essential figure in the electronic music forefront.

Rose Robinson, emerged in the early 1990s, where rubbing Tiger Balm on one's temples was a customary way to extend a chemically-induced high. Now returning in human form, Tigerbalm, hailing from  south London, has been a professional DJ many years, renowned for her eclectic sound blending African, Latin, and global influences with modern electronic music. Formerly one half of Earthboogie, she's now pursuing a solo career under the moniker Tigerbalm, signing with Ubiquity and set to release her debut album "International Love Affair" in 2022.

With a slew of remixes and collaborations under her belt, Tigerbalm is a bussssssseeee, bringing her global looking sound to audiences worldwide. This summer you can catch her at the most excellent intimate affairs that are Rotation Soundsytem and Campo Sancho. She also has a sterling remix of Pahua's Palanté ft. Usually a slot reserved for nothing short of legendary figures like thee one and only Andrew Weatherall (their most regular guest) or Optimo (their second most?), an open-to-end set at Spezialmaterial is certainly not for everyone. A journey into the weirder dark corners of club music? An energetic yet hypnotic psychedelic trip? We'll let you be the judges of that. It is certainly 100% C.P.I. at its essence. Dive in with an open mind and ye shall be rewarded.

C.P.I. is the collaborative effort from long-time Hivern Discs operative Marc Piñol, a staple in Barcelona’s underground electronic scene and one of its most revered DJs, and Berlin-based artist, DJ and self proclaimed dilettante, Hugo Capablanca who runs his somewhat iconic label(s) Discos/ Ediciones Capablanca.

Bound by a shared love of drone luminaries, ’80s electronica experimentalists, early acid house adopters, mutant techno and forward-thinking industrial sounds, the duo wrote their first Ep El Tunel/ Proceso in a whirlwind and, released on 2015 on John Talabot’s imprint, positioned themselves among the most talked club acts of the moment, earning both press and public acclaim with an innovative blend of their influences and modern production techniques that became easily distinguishable.

In 2018 their sophomore Ep Meine Hand is released. That same year C.P.I. receive the prestigious RTF Foundation composer’s grant and work for months in what consolidates in their debut album, Alianza.
Released on 2020 to wide critical acclaim, the LP featured Anna Homler, Veronica Vasicka and Spacemen 3 members, among others, and represented a pivotal shift in the duo’s creative output, leaving aside dancefloor concerns towards a fully immersive sound experience.

On May 2021 C.P.I. performed their first-ever live show in Barcelona deconstructing Alianza into a dark ambient maelstrom. Ambient Blackout, the live recording of the show, released end of 2023 on Ediciones Capablanca.

The mix starts off around 105 bpm, keeping it at a nice low tempo with favorites from HiFi Sean, Eden Burns, and Fantastic Man before building toward a more peak-time club energy over the two hours. There are tracks from Vanessa Worm, and Theus Mago as well as the new Justin Cudmore track on a new label we have launched as The Night Institute. There are tracks from my Polari Records family, in the form of Shay Shaz and Micropacer, off the new 'No Tears in the Backroom' compilation and I've included both originals from my new release on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label.

Jordan Nocturne has been soundtracking parties in sweatbox clubs, festivals and raucous afterparties with his propulsive approach to electronic music for two decades.

The Nocturne schedule these days includes stops in Berlin, New York, Japan & London and has resulted in an uncompromising attitude to club culture that has been cultivated through playing some of the worlds leading underground parties. Jordan has soundtracked stand-out sessions at the helm of Pikes Ibiza, Fabric London, Sub Club in Glasgow and his own cult party, The Night Institute in Belfast. In 2023 The Night Institute was nominated 'Best Club Event', in the DJ Mag Best of British awards, cementing it's position as a refuge for the city's diverse characters that are looking for an alternative after-dark.

The prolific Nocturne Edits series was a runaway success, demanding several vinyl represses, while Jordan's uplifting take on house, disco and techno has found favour with Peggy Gou, Jennifer Cardini, Cormac & Erol Alkan to name just a few.

This ascent has seen the world's leading dance music institutions calling upon Jordan, with Nocturne mixes for Circoloco, DJ Mag, Mixmag and Feel My Bicep sitting comfortably alongside weekend guest mixes on Radio 1 and 6 Music.

2024 sees Jordan accelerate internationally, with a debut at the seminal Panorama Bar in Berlin, as well as tours to Australia and the USA, while maintaining a commanding studio output that continues to find homes in the playlists of the electronic music's most influential artists
