With far too many chin strokers and music elitists around, we need people like Kristy Harper who choose to bring a sense of fun and sparkle to their musical pursuits instead. 

An advocate for female empowerment and body positivity, she translates these messages into both her productions and DJ sets. So far her releases have come via Let’s Play House and Monologues Records, followed by her acclaimed ‘My Body, My Future’ track, which samples Samirah Raheem’s viral interview at the LA ‘Slut Walk’. 

As a DJ, both behind the decks or on the Netil Radio airwaves where she holds a residency, she’s guided by a pure and unadulterated love of disco, Italo and classic house; sonics that filter into much of her musical output.

That goes for today’s mix too, which revs through a cocktail of synth-driven rhythms and bright acid-laced cuts, and follows Kristy’s fuego remix for our latest R$N Records release from Bawrut and Chico Blanco, which you should listen to stat!

Kristy Harper: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix

Freeride Millennium welcome back Delicate Features, as the duo prepare to kick off their 2021 schedule with five-track EP 'Fragile'.

Saint Petersburg-based Delicate Features is the moniker of composer Pavel Diakov and vocalist Radmila Nikogosian. Since making their debut in 2012, the pair has released material via Cellar Tapes and Not Not Fun Records, whilst delivering two EP’s on Freeride Millenium and contributing to the label’s charity live stream to celebrate the imprint's debut compilation last year. They continue to build their impressive discography this April with five immersive cuts in the form of the 'Fragile' EP.

Blissful opener 'Sun Circle' combines harmonic strings with delicate vocals to deliver a radiant and glistening production. 'Jezebel' takes us down a slightly darker route, combining eerie synths and sinister melodies over a mid-tempo rhythm, whilst 'Opened My Eyes' lays the focus on loose drums, organic percussion and melancholy tones. The cinematic 'This World' is an uplifting affair; here we see orchestral patterns fuse with luscious chords and further alluring vocals, before closing out proceedings via isolated lullaby, 'Forever'.

The ‘Fragile’ EP from Delicate Features arrives on 23rd April, and as with previous label releases features original photography and artwork by Daniel Rajcsanyi.

A relict of the past - a night at Kassablanca 2007. Presenting even more reminiscent house records at a time when the sound was nowhere else to be heard in Thuringia. Two legendary artists featured in the mix have died since then. RIP, Gabi Delgado and Elbee Bad! Your spirit will live on!

Huntleys + Palmers with Andrew Thomson - 17 April 2021

Todmorden-based band Working Men's Club burst onto the scene at the beginning of 2019 with their debut single 'Bad Blood'. Coming via London-based mainstay Heavenly Records, the track championed their formative influences: 80s-leaning post-punk and melodic synth-pop.

But after dropping this first single, frontman and band leader Sydney Minsky-Sargeant was keen to weave his passion for electronic music into the band's future output — a decision that other members of the group weren't in favour off.

Two of the original members left, and since the band has gone through an evolution of members, now devoted to welding together the commanding punk sounds, present at the band's outset, with driving synth-heavy dance music. This newly-realised sound first hit public ears in mid 2019 with the release of 'Teeth', which laid the foundations for their self-titled debut LP that finally saw the light of day in October last year.

As a showcase of the electronic sounds that helped provide that new direction for the band's sound, lead singer Sydney Minsky-Sargeant delivers a special DJ set of warm breakbeats, squelchy machine funk and rhythmic house cuts.
