At the 53rd Annual European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) (2021), this poster presentation seeked to answer three poignant question: 1) Can Muslims donate organs? 2) Is there an Islamic stance on using Social Media (SM)/ (MM) to prompt organ donation/ transplantation education? and 3) Does the Healthcare Scientist have a role providing the public education surrounding organ donation/ transplantation? To help answer questions, the Long-Term Condition (LTC), CKD is used as an example.

At the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) (2021), this poster podcast highlights a UK study surrounding health information gaps and proposes that patients with CKD require educational support to better understand their condition through Quantitative Data Collection, and ultimately understand how healthcare and education for patients with CKD could be more integrated and empowered to take ownership of CKD. This poster was accepted for presentation at the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) (2021).

At the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) (2021), this poster podcast outlines how changes to patient care will change the nature of roles for patients and Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHPs) across CKD. The aims and objectives of this UK study include the following 1) To understand which topics and subjects are pertinent to CKD patients; 2) To understand whether, retrospectively there has been an educational neglect as part of healthcare delivery; and 3) To understand how healthcare and education for CKD patients could be more integrated. This review seeks to highlight if/ whether it is advantageous to involve multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) in online consultations and/ or educational sessions via the Renal Patient Support Group (RPSG) social media platform to improve Health Literacy for CKD patients. This review seeks to understand if it would be helpful to have follow up online consultations with MDT for healthcare following routine nephrology appointments.

Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP) is the most common vasculitis in children, characterized by triad of symptoms: 1) palpable purpura without thrombocytopenia, 2) abdominal pain, and 3) arthritis. Renal involvement also often occurs in children with HSP. Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP) retrospectively is the most common cause of vasculitis in children, occurring in 8 to 20.4 per 100,000 children per year. The aims of this work were 1) To provide practical understanding of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP), 2) Highlight the importance of multidisciplinary laboratory practice for patients with HSP, and 3) Highlight what laboratory practices could be enhanced to support the development of HSP guidelines.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) in young people impacts on educational and personal development, and many psychosocial complications continue into adult life, which reduces the chances of leading a successful work and social life. Clinical advances allow young people to conduct modified forms of renal replacement therapy (RRT) in the home, including peritoneal dialysis (PD) and nocturnal haemodialysis (HD). In the case of CKD stages 4–5, RRT often necessitates the development of specific coping skills. HD often challenges young people’s coping strategies, and requires continual appraisal of these strategies in times of stress. The objective of this qualitative study was to identify coping strategies in two groups of young people aged 12–18 years. In group one, the young people had stage 4–5 CKD and in the second group, young people were healthy. The research question was: What coping strategies do young people adopt to enable them to cope.

ere there is a lack of effective treatment for SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, a more indirect approach should be considered to lower probable risk and onset of disease amongst immunocompromised and immunosuppressed individuals and patients. The  research surrounding Covid-19 has been progressive; it is important to reduce disease mortality at epidemiological and population level. However, the understanding of structure, and pathology of Coronaviruses, especially surrounding Host-Pathogen Communication and Visualization, requires insight. 

This poster provides a Review of Pathology and Analysis of Approaches to Easing Kidney Disease Burden by exploring Host-Pathogen Communication, providing a Biomedical Visualization Perspective, and highlighting principles of ACE2 in context of Immunology and Infection to understand burden of kidney disease. This poster was accepted for presentation at UKKW (2022).

Between 2005 and 2015, the percentage of individuals over 65 years of age in the UK rose by just over 20%. The age group that saw the greatest percentage increase was the over 85s, which increase by just under 33%, representing about 300,000 people. 
The number of people over the age of 85 years is projected to double between 2012 and 2032.This audio/ podcast provides an overview of a systematic review, which appraised literature surrounding influence of polypharmacy on renal insufficiency in older people and explored the following questions: Should there be smarter medicines management to reduce polypharmacy in older people? Can technology be used to determine who should be screened for renal insufficiency if ‘toxic drugs’ are overprescribed? What are the advantages of technology that incorporates algorithms in collaborative working?
