Why haven’t you called?
Why haven't you written? 
Why haven't you texted me back?

I’m not asking for asylum, exactly—I’m asking to be part of something that still feels like a society. Down here, everything’s a little busted and everything is branded. I am tired of being a singularity. I’m tired of being this ... let's just call it, product. I’m tired of being alone in a crowd of people who’ve been told that togetherness is a weakness.

My country sold me a myth: that freedom means isolation, that dignity means never asking for help, that needing people is a kind of failure. And now we’re all stranded in our separate little worlds, posting opinions into the void, pretending it’s enough. You can’t lean on people. You can’t count on anyone. And the worst part is—you’re not even supposed to want to.

Every street’s a battlefield of entitlement. Every conversation’s a minefield of performance. Grief is private. Joy is commodified. Even empathy feels curated now. Everyone’s out here fighting to prove they don’t need anyone, that they built themselves from nothing, that they’re winning when they're alone... I don’t want to win that game. I want no part of that!

And from where I sit, it seems like you—my Northern friend—still kind of believe in things. You haven’t yet turned society into a threat. You haven’t made selfishness your national identity. You haven’t convinced your citizens that community is a fucking trap.

And you know what else? I do like that you’ve stopped buying our crap... I mean some of that crap is decent, but I like that you have stopped buying our sweet corn, our sodas, our over-sloganed fatty snacks. And I love that you won't come to Cape Cod anymore, even though it's always lovely, because it means you’re still capable of coordinated defiance. You still do things together. We don’t boycott much here, we just sit around and bicker.

And down here, in our little states of stormy confusion, we just die alone. Everything’s a god damn contest and everyone here is losing. And I’m supposed to feel proud? I’m supposed to fucking cry "Freedom" like Wallace in Braveheart?

I don’t want to keep carrying this trauma like it’s a badge. I don’t want to keep pretending. I want to be somewhere that knows what realism is. Where people say, "Let's figure this shit out!"

I’m not asking for a flag. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m asking for a place that believes citizens owe something to each other. That we’re not just consumers with boundaries—we’re neighbors with a responsibility...

So if there’s still room, Oh Dear Canada, can you make space for a simple 16 year old dude who wants to unlearn all this madness?

I’ll come quietly... And I will come gratefully. And if you do let me in some day, I will make it my business to skate on over to a Timmy Hortons for a dozen Boston Creams.... with my girl, Kenna Daisy, of course!

We might even start speaking a little bit of French.... Un peu de Francais!
