Building on the soundscapes of Il Vortice, The Tupolev Ghosts, and In Harm’s Way, The Tape Trade originated in Geneva in late 2010 with lead singer Nick Smatlan from Canada, guitarist Ken Wyllie from Scotland, bassist Ben Perry from Wales, and drummer Mario Ottiglio from Italy. The eclectic and international group composition is reflected in the band’s primal beats and fuzzed-out guitars, which take the audience on a sonic adventure. Band members have shared the stage with internationally acclaimed acts—including Muse, Propagandhi, Anti-Flag, Nomeansno, Melt-Banana, Foals, Minus the Bear, Blood Red Shoes and Chixdiggit.

As the band gains momentum in the regional scene, the Tape Trade released their first self- produced EP. The band has riveted audiences with impressive songcraft influenced by 70s punk rock, 80s pop, and 90s alternative. Their live performances are uniquely marked with high energy and refreshing lyrics that are treading the ground in the indie rock genre. As their name suggests, the Tape Trade brings back some of the classic sounds that dominated the cassette era, while at the same time, creating entirely modern sounds.
