So... What’s the Deal with the "Seven Seas"? 🌊
Turns out, ancient folks loved the number 7 ✨ (lucky, mystical, you name it). But here’s the kicker there’s no fixed list! Every culture just kinda winged it.
1️⃣ Ancient Times: "Meh, Close Enough" 🏛️
Sumerians: Their "7 seas" were probably just rivers (Tigris, Euphrates) + the Persian Gulf. Not exactly oceanic. 😅
Greeks/Romans: Went with the classics—Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red Sea... and tossed in a few extras to hit 7.
2️⃣ Medieval Swag: Trade Routes = "Seas" 🚢💰
Arab traders called the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, etc., "seas" because #shippingGoals. (Profit --- geography.)
3️⃣ Pirates & Explorers: "Let’s Add More!" ☠️🗺️
By the 1600s, Europeans were like: "Cool, now we’ve got the Atlantic, Pacific… uh, Caribbean? Sure, why not!"
Modern Take 🤷‍♂️
Today, it’s just a romantic phrase—like "sail the 7 seas" = "go everywhere, dude."
