Growing up in Milton Keynes, the largest of the "new towns" outside of London designed and built in the 1960s, perhaps explains why producer Nicholas Worrall is subconsciously drawn to clearly delineated sonic structures and flawed techno utopianism, two concepts that are ever present in both his sound and aesthetic approach to music.

Wordcolour (@wordcolour) was formed just two years ago, at a time when Worrall was habitually cutting up and splicing human voice samples ripped from YouTube memes, film dialogues and musique concrète tapes.

The first artistic demonstration of these ideas arrived in 2019 via his mixtape “I Want To Tell You Something” for the Blowing Up The Workshop platform. This unique set immediately grabbed the attention and support of the specialized music press and media, including Pitchfork and Resident Advisor.

“Tell Me Something” is Wordcolour’s official debut EP and heads straight for the dance floor. It is comprised of an unusual melting pot of influences that fuse the UK club sound, post-dubstep and a style akin to Paul Lansky's ‘90s musique concrète. “Tell Me Something” offers a vibrant leftfield, avant-garde techno and edgy electro, all immersed in the vast cosmos of the human voice.

it's been a while since we decided to open and launch this new project, we were just waiting for the right moment, and maybe we waited too long. or maybe not. we were a little stucked by the indecision of when to put it out, how to contextualize, and all the usual "psychological" practices that one faces before starting a new journey. but ever since we received the masters of this wonderful concentrate of different minds, we have been looking forward to smashing it out. and whether it's the real right time or not, it's now finally here! the true meaning behind this capsule is not so definable in words, perhaps because it is an attempt to look back and forth at the same time, without getting lost in a one concrete definition. but when we got to the tracks, first individually, and then together, it came spontaneous to glimpse something new and unconventional as a whole. we are therefore proud to present another of our musical journeys, this time in certainly more experimental and odd territories. the sounds you hear can definitely be taken as the true manifesto of this new chapter. proto? post? everything in between. ‘Centre of Attention’ completes the various artists EP release trilogy from Left, Right & Centre with the continuation of bassy, break neck offerings as they reach the summit sonically. It is available as a four track digital EP in addition to a limited edition LRC-USB that features all 12 tracks from the 12 artists exhibited throughout their label launch.
The EP is set forth by Porter Brook with a spooky, new school, drum & bass hybrid - The Proposed Roads. UK influences follow suit, in Loggerheads from Hedchef, as it embodies a complex tapestry of drum sequences and a demented twist on everyones favourite rave stab. Twisting and turning, Who’s There? by Alexis swivels the mood to mystery, combining warped sounds with pulsing hi-hats to create a full bodied track for euphoric moments. Feloneezy answers Alexis’ question with Pick Up The Phone picking up the pace with a two step flow of skipping snares that’s both fierce and smooth. Unlike their previous releases within their V/A trilogy, this extended play includes artists from overseas that share a passion for UK flavoured techno and bass. Left, Right & Centre wish to inspirit and uplift with the euphonious exhibit of this generation’s artists in low end driven sounds.

'Apparition Floor' is a set of musikal responses to excerpts to Giorgio de Chirico’s wild metaphysical novel Hebdomeros. It follows the protagonist Hebdomeros' journey through an enigmatic, sullen landscape of doorways, columns, gas lamps and blind windows. The sounds map the weird architecture and wonky lay of the land.
