The Underground began with a couple of aspiring artists, Matt DeRose and Erik Mangs. Their influences are punk and metal music. Matt and Erik would share riffs and song ideas with each other with hopes to one day record them. Knowing they couldnt get anywhere without a full band, they asked Josh Crampton, a well known percussionist at Guilford High School, to join them. Soon after, they tracked down Mike Snow, who at the time never picked up the bass guitar. Mike gladly accepted to join, and that Christmas he picked up a new bass. In the beginning, the band had tremendous trouble with choosing the right band name, and after at least 2 months, they settled upon "The Underground". Today, the band has weekly practices and they are currently working on a full length album.
