Haunting Melody

A kind of synth 'wall of sound' thing going on here, in terms of production.  Pretty much an existentialist piece, looking into what the word 'freedom' actually means.

Prisoners

At first glance, this may appear to be an anti-war song. This was never the intention. It's simply an observation that mankind seems to have an inbuilt desire to be violent toward his fellow man, often for the sake of it. It really does make me wonder if the human race will survive in the longer term, or whether we are destined for self destruction.



These Modern Times

A bit more personal, this one.  Enough said, really! 

Was it You or Was it Me?

There are no VIPs, only SIPs (self-important people).  A wise man once said that we are all grains of sand on a beach.  When you consider that the nearest galaxy to earth is 2.5 million light years away, I don't think he could have put it better really.  A song about people similar to, though not inspired by, Simon Cowell.

Big Man

Age catches up with all of us, eventually - even school bullies.  This was actually inspired by photographs of a school reunion from the year below mine.  I couldn't believe how badly some of the people had let themselves go.  As it happens, they were actually, pretty much decent people, so I didn't want to write about them in a negative context, but it struck me that bad guys and gals were just as likely to wearing a bit rough too!



Washed Up Old Women and Mangled Old Men

A song about having the fighting spirit to follow your heart and live life the way you want to, really.  The lyric for this was written 18 years ago and at the time, I could never quite get the arrangement to work - always lacked the necessary energy - but I'm so glad I decided to go back to it.  For my money, it's the best track on the album!

Sea of Destiny

My first real attempt at writing a true prog rock song, which could possibly be considered a cousin of Future Calling.  Certainly the longest song I've come up with, so far and the first to feature a solo written in 7/4.

Tuesday Morning

Another old song, written back in 1993 that I felt was worthy of being arranged and released. It certainly hasn't dated and I'm glad I decided to record this one as it's so timely, given what is going on in the UK at present.


Old School Tie

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read these words, and (hopefully) for listening to a few of my tracks. I tend to believe that if songs are any good, they speak for themselves, so I won't rabbit on about them too much! Suffice to say, that I write from the heart, being inspired by many aspects of this increasingly, crazy world we live in, particularly the human condition and, dare I say it, politics and social issues. Tracks from my four albums, Waiting for Those Days, The Man at the Window, Future Calling and my most recent offering, These Modern Times, are available for your listening pleasure. 

Aside from songwriting, I also teach Logic Pro on a freelance basis, along with offering a mastering service, within my studio. I am also a 3D artist and animator, using Cinema 4D software. Furthermore, I am in the process of purchasing/learning Final Cut Pro X and Motion, along with a Canon 600D, with a view to producing my own music videos. My ultimate aim is to combine live action, CGI and music - I already have some interesting ideas with regard to this.

We live in difficult but exciting times, don't we?

Anyway, you've probably had enough of my ramblings by now, so if I've managed to persuade you to listen to a tune or two, I hope you enjoy them!
