New Mix, Who Dis?  5/1/21

I've been really in my feels recenty about the separation and loneliness that has come for many of us during the pandemic these past two years.  Some specific memories and emotions that have flooded me were those of my experiences with my Burner community - the larger-than-life art, the grand scale of inclusion and participation, and the late nights that turn into fun mornings... and that got my mind drifting to Burns, to Black Rock City, and the sunrise sets that are oh-so-famous from Burning Man.

That vibe really latched onto me this weekend, so I did a surprise midnight stream on my Twitch channel, and decided to try out some Playa-esqe music for the night and take us all on an imaginary trip to the desert.  Thanks for tuning in!  Enjoy!

Sunrise Soulcation 7/17/21

What's up, gang?!

Had zero intentions of streaming this weekend (was saving my juice for the big Bang Tech 12 fundraiser raid train on Valentine's Day).  But, as fate would have it, I get an alert on my phone at work on Saturday MORNING saying that my Detroit homey @djdav_4 just went LIVE for some pajama jams.  Nice!  Then, after I get home and shower, @djkatalist goes LIVE.  

It turned into one of those days, haha!  An all day Detroit marathon Twitch session that inspired me to jump on board!  @bigjoehix, @martinhayz, @DJdevelopment all CRUSHING through an awesome Saturday of dance music!  This is a recording of the first hour of my 3+ hour stream before we raided @djdav_4 for his 80's Throwback party!

Block Party 2/12/22

House.  It's what originally sucked me into dance music, and I've never looked back.  Sometimes, when getting ready for a show/stream, part of the challenge is figuring out what lane I'm going to travel down.  What vibe do I want to create?  What energy level do I want to reach?  What am I going for here?

For tonight's stream, these issues were nonexistent.  I knew loooong before the show that tonight was all about house.  Starting off deep, picking up the pace and getting groovy, getting funky, and closing out with a classic feel.  House music, HUA!

What's up, gang?!

Music is a very powerful tool for many reasons, but one big one sticks out to me - emotion.  Whenever I've had a rough day at work, or a crazy week, or whatever it may be, nothing can turn me around faster and pick the mood up better than some uplifting, positive-vibing, nothing-but-loving, funky groovy house music!  

This mix was heavily influenced by some of my Twitch fam (@SalemHalloweenGirls and @DjKatalist) who crushed some disco last week during their streams, and quite honestly, is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered!  I recorded this mix LIVE from my Twitch stream last night, and had an absolute blast with you all! For this stream, I was feeling a little frisky and decided to drift off path a little bit and go with some tunes that are a little more familiar to most. Bang Tech 12 Anniversary @ Bookie's Detroit 5/27/22

Lakes of Fire is the Great Lakes Region’s official Burning Man Regional Event, and is conducted in accordance with the Org's "Ten Principles" (check it out at www.lakesoffire.org ).

It is a yearly collaborative celebration of art and community, steeped in friendship, fire, and wonder. This community event is both for you and by you – your creativity, your art, and your relentless enthusiasm fuel a life-altering week that many consider “coming home”.

I have been an attendee and volunteer at this event since 2013, and it is the one full week of the year I look forward to the most!  And, full disclosure, it's the only place I've consistently played out in front of people, mostly at small camps and on Mutant Vehicles.  So when Syncytium (the biggest, most established camp at the event) got in contact with me and wanted me to play, to say I was fired up would be a severe understatement!  This set was from Friday night, LIVE from their camp on the South Beach.  I was originally scheduled to play from 11:15-12:30am, but the DJ after me never showed, so after a late start (Burner time, haha), I ended up going until 2am, and the crowd was AMAZING!

Lakes Of Fire 2022 - Friday night @ Syncytium

Wow!

Blessed and super fortunate to have been asked by this amazing camp to play some music on Burn night at Lakes of Fire 2022 (the Great Lakes official regional burn).  This one was a change of pace from what I typically play (HyperHabitat is a camp with such a cool chill tent, filled with inflatable furniture, pillows, blankets, etc), so I kept the vibe more chill and trippy in parts.  It was a lot of fun for me, and I hope everyone there enjoyed it as well!

In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which just a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state.  Every decision you make, no matter how small, drastically affects the future happenings in your existence.  What decisions will you make today, tomorrow, or the next day? Butterfly Effect 7/16/22

Hey gang!

For this week's stream, I decided to go back to my roots a bit.  House music was the first genre of dance music that not only caught my attention, but took a firm grip on my psyche, my soul, my entire being.  Things have been pretty rough around here for awhile, and any time I need a little pick-me-up, a smile added to my day, or any sort of positivity boost, putting on some house music is the perfect elixir to ease the roughness and send me back in the right direction.

House Party 7/30/22

Often times in dance music, when hearing DJs talk about their performances, a common theme that appears is one of "going on a journey" or "telling a story" through a set, and that was EXACTLY my goal with this stream.  This one is definitely a "stay-here-until-the-end" mix!  I started off the show a little chill, with some groovy basslines and pretty vocals, but as we progress, you're going to hear some housier sounds, getting darker and harder as we move on, with some surprises near the end 😉

What's up, gang?

For this stream, it was the PERFECT opportunity to bring back one of the more fun streams I've done in the past year or so.  With the HUGE rivalry battle for the Paul Bunyan trophy against our bitter in-state rival (the Michigan State Spartans) on deck, what better way to roll up to kickoff than with the return of the Pre-game Power Hour!  All house, all energy, and all ready to rock by game time!

Pre-game Power Hour 2.0 - 10/29/22

Hi friends!

Rolling into the wintery abyss here in the Detroit area, a really big thing that many people deal with is seasonal depression.  Freezing temperatures, waves of snow, lack of sunlight... all of those are major contributors to the loss of happiness and personal well being around these parts.  Secret time:  I've had a pretty shitty year to be honest.  Mentally, personally, professionally, emotionally... it's been a struggle for me.  One of my saving graces has been the amazing, creative outlet that I've been blessed to discover, and that's being able to play music that I love, and stream it live for all my friends on Twitch.  And for this particular session, I wanted to flip the script, accentuate the positive feelings, and bring more of a fun, happy vibe to what is ultimately a dreary, crappy time of year.

The first hour and fifteen minutes or so is all brand new music that I got recently, and the chat room was grooving and super into it, so I decided to keep the train rolling and started pulling out a bunch of heavily requested tracks from previous mixes that I've done.

First stream in over a month, and WOW was this a fun one!  I aptly named this mix "Mic Check" because I used a revised setup for my Twitch stream, which involved a new mic and configuration (which I never use), so you'lll actually hear my annoying voice pop up throughout, haha,  Boooooo, I know, but we wanted to see if it came through in the recording, which it did - whoops!
