Melbourne based artist Dashiell debuts on Felt Sense Records with five hazy cuts, including a remix from Salt Mines co-founder Rudolf C. Dashiell is a Melbourne born and raised DJ & Producer and a member of production group Menage alongside Sam Brickel, who released a track on Kia's Animalia imprint back in June 2020. Dashiell is a devotee to glitch & minimal musical styles, which shine through in his 'Going Nowhere Fast' EP on Melbourne label Felt Sense Records. The EP features a collection of tracks recorded over several years in some of Dash's ever-evolving bootleg studio setups like laundry spaces, and leaky tin sheds. The EP opener 'Aspect' sees Dashiell invite Steeplejack artist Sam Brickell to feature. The track offers fluttering grooves, hypnotic pads and spacey, humming low frequencies before 'Going Nowhere Fast' lays down breaky rhythms, tripped-out fx and twinkling synths underneath. Up next, 'Oxy' takes things into minimal territories as the shimmering bassline fuse delicately with moody textures and dubbed-out vibrations whilst 'Scratching The Surface' features ambient atmospheres, breezy soundscapes and glistening melodies. To finish, Berlin-based Australian producer and Co-Founder of the Salt Mines label rolls out a loopy remix of 'Going Nowhere Fast' as he blends trippy electronics and murky tonality.

Shanti Celeste is one of those artists whose personality matches her DJ style. Her fun-loving nature and breezy demeanour always light up a room, as do her vibrant sets that span sunny house music, slow-burning disco and emotive techno—just revisit her RA podcast for a reminder. Fresh off her Hessle Audio debut, the London-based artist sat down with Martha Pazienti-Caidan for an honest chat about track selection, bad gigs and her approach to production.

During DJ sets, the Peach Discs co-founder doesn’t like to focus on genres. Instead, "I think about, like, building and releasing tension and making sure that I stay in a specific energy level," she explained. "Whereas before, I think I knew the energy I wanted to bring, but I didn't know how to do that cause I was just thinking about everything in terms of genre."

Reaching this holistic stage, however, took time. It was a process of acquiring knowledge and experience but also confidence, she described, adding how she previously had "really bad imposter syndrome." Learning to recognise that certain factors might be outside an artist’s control is essential to self-realisation, she continued. Recounting her experience of playing big festival stages, she noted the importance of "learning what side of yourself to channel" rather than compromise on music.

It was ace to also unexpectedly bump into some key agents of organised UK underworld deepness, including Miles Atmospheric of Atmospheric Existence Recordings, Bovill of cult label Meanwhile and many others! "This set was recorded directly from my live performance at Faith In Strangers, Margate earlier this year for Ornate Music and 50arc. The venue is fantastic with a beautifully tuned sound system, views over the sea, and lovely hospitable staff. The event was a chance for me to catch up with people I'd not seen since before the pandemic and put some faces to online names, including Avenue Red's very own Alec.

My live set has changed a lot over the years and the current evolution is all unreleased house and techno tracks. The music I play live has moved in this direction simply because it's more relevant to the dancefloor and more fun to perform to a crowd than some of my deeper electro tracks. Gear-wise, I've added a Roland TR8S drum machine to Ableton, which has allowed me more opportunity to improvise and react spontaneously. Listening back, I'm happy with how the set sounds and hope it resonates with people.
