This track was inspired by my trips to Germany, and Austria, and spending time with guys like Phace and Mefjus. The name represents the swinging bassline, two notes in tandem with each other, having a call and response. I loved the visual image it brings, but the track was only an idea when a good friend convinced me to finish it. Simplistic, but straight to the point.

Emperor - Tandem

This track was inspired by older, 90's era D&B. Especially the intro, the chord sequence in the intro is a little throwback to those times. The title of the track came from the vocal sample which you can barely hear, save for the end of the track. "Adapt, Evolve, Become." It's sampled from a popular TV show, but I'll refrain from posting it's title for obvious reasons. The bassline was created using two instances of FM8, one duplicated but the waveforms were pitched up by octaves, or by fifths. Then it was resampled, so that when pitched up the LFO increased in speed. I wanted the intro to get across that it all builds up to that one sound, and the entire track is built around it.

Emperor - Mindgames

This track was created after going to see a friends Metal band. I started playing around with a few new plugins, but ended up with a 10 minute long recording of the session, from which I cut parts and then resampled, pitched, etc. I think this one was definitely inspired by tracks like Dust Up by Noisia & The Upbeats, and even myself and Mefjus' track, Void Main Void. The beat never actually changes and is just constant all the way through, not something I usually enjoy doing but it works extremely well in this case.

Emperor - Passed Up

Into Black was more of a stylistic choice. My music has always reflected a certain side of me that comes across naturally, particularly my Drum & Bass music. The sound of the EP was more of a throwback to my older sounds and influences, combined with newer elements; I spent a day sampling, then processing, cutting, re-arranging... although I also wanted for the EP to have it's main elements entirely synthesized. Spending time with my peers has taken me out of an old habit, inspiring me to create more. Into Black is a result of that.

Emperor, having proved himself with heavyweight releases on VISION, Critical Music, UKF, Drum&BassArena, Symmetry, Inspected, Neosignal, remixes for Hospital and Blackout has become a force to be reckoned with.

Since his debut release - ‘Monolith’ back in June 2012, Emperor’s presence within the D&B scene has gone from strength to strength. Followed by the incredible ‘Jackhammer EP’ on Inspected records, which exposed a different creative side for the Lancashire born producer. His ‘Begin EP’ released on Critical in 2013 furthered his notoriety. Collaborations with Austrian powerhouse, Mefjus, on the prolific Hello World series, dominated charts and reinforced his stature as one of the heavyweights of Drum & Bass.

Deep, dark, emotive, uplifting... spanning a range of styles whilst retaining a unique quality. Each track bringing you a new twist on that distinctive Emperor sound. 2018 also saw the debut album for his alter-ego, Monuman. After releasing two collaborations on The Upbeats critically acclaimed 'No Sleep Till' project, Emperor started his own imprint - 'EMPR', starting out with Crybaby/Goblin, Daft Funk/Convex, as well as an exclusive series of tracks exclusive to Patreon.

Emperor is without doubt one of the most exciting producers in bass music, gritty mechanics combined with beautiful soundscapes, intricate sound design, and all out rawness. A distinctive sound to behold.
