A new tune I've been working on, testing some new recording techniques and different sounds from my Marshall. My very talented friend is supposed to come up with some vocals. I think it sounds kind of somewhere between smooth jazz and pop/adult alternative. Kind of cool.

My brother and I decided to do a "synth challenge", whereby we use nothing but synth sounds (a different thing for us) except for at least one guitar track.
So this is my entry into our 2-person contest, I call it "Flight of the Red Humpy".

This version is using just the stock eq/compressors in Cubase 6.5.3

Synths - Steinberg Padshop synth
Strings - Steinberg Halion Sonic SE
Drums - Steinberg Groove Agent One (triggered with Korg nanoPAD2 controller)

Flight of the Red Humpy

My brother and I decided to do a "synth challenge", whereby we use nothing but synth sounds (a different thing for us) except for at least one guitar track.
So this is the second version of my entry into our 2-person contest, this version is using the Steinberg "Rupert Neve Designs Portico" vst plugins (trial versions) - eq and compressor.

It's the same song, I just replaced the stock Cubase eq/compressor with the RND Portico plugs (keeping the settings as similar as the plugs would allow). I think this one sounds better, but you can be the judge of whether or not the difference is worth the $799 Steiny charges for the two plugs. I have my doubts. Still, I think they add....something.
