King Oorawiu is introduced as one who sits on a throne of gold, silver and peasant bones. He gives the soprano singer an offer to have control over the world. Written back in 2012. Performed a decade later after finding Trish Parkin, a soprano who was willing to take on the greatest challenge.

Composed for Edward Neeman, who recorded this alongside his many other committments. I thank the performer for his continued championing of Australian Music, and his amazing pianistic talent. After Allegro is an odd name, it is more about the aching feel one can experience after abiding and trying to match the manic pace required to survive in the world. The speed represents the chaos, the slower sections the reflection and decay of the soul as it is neglected. Heavy much?

This work is based on Jesus' apparition to Mary Magdalene. Great thanks towards Michael Bakrncev and the wonderful performers and conductor and orchestral librarian of the Melbourne Metropolitan Sinfonietta for their excellent interpretation of the piece. <3

Noli Me Tangere Recording

This set of bagatelles is written for a chamber ensemble. It features the cliche of bowed vibraphone, but this is not overused. Every composer has to have dabbled in bowed vibraphone at some stage.

Based on Stephen Stanfield's titled works of 'Are you in there?' and 'Are you there', Stephen was my teacher/lecturer from 1998 until 2002. He died last year after battling cancer for some time. His works are brilliantly crafted and his passing is a great loss to Australian music. Check out his works at www.stephenstanfield.com  

This work was played by Marlene at a small concert that I put on in May. It took a lot of organising and affected my preparation at work, but was worth it to see several new works created for the event. Keep composing!

Are you out there? (Clarinet solo)

This work was written for the RSCM competition organised by Gemma Dashwood last year. I had nothing to do with rehearsals, and was taken aback after arriving at the venue during their final rehearsals. The choir were singing the song I had written, and I recognised the work well enough, but it was very surreal to hear such fantastic voices create it into a piece of magic. What a great thing to have been able to experience. I recorded this on my little mini disk player. I so love that minidisk!
