Ancient pianos (recorded in 1992, mutated in the present) collide in echoing caverns unimagined by my younger self. Sounds ring and thunder like memories, sometimes fragile, sometimes crushing. Some pass in moments, some last for eternities. The beating of a ponderous heart keeps time as best it can.

"Pianogenesis" takes the listener from conception to fulmination, concluding in an apotheotic roar.

A series of collaborations with my younger self (who wrote music and mucked around with reel-to-reels in the early 1980s) this album mix consists of six tracks: "Introit" (0:40), "Hissy Fit" (11:07), "Slow Release" (15:04), "Jam Hacker" (2:47), "Retro Beached Wales" (10:10) and "Rest Uneasy" (29:42). I am the sole musician. Headphones advised. Styles vary. Hiss is deliberate. I don't recommend sleeping to this, but if you insist on trying it, do let me know what you experience!

REM (Full Album)

This album takes music I composed and/or recorded in the period between 1982 and 1991 and reworks it using modern tools. It is, therefore, an ambient/experimental collaboration between the young me and the present-day me. Most of these recordings were laid down on tape, hence the hiss, which I quite like. A lot feature real performers, including me. The instruments I play include piano, recorder, autoharp, tuning fork, voice, windscreen wiper, and Slinky.

If I ever perform these live, "the_adelaidean" is the name I'm thinking of using. Very much a WIP.

Four Pieces for Stretched Piano

A high-fidelity, dynamic version of one of my first collaborations with my younger self. This track is based on my Young Composer Award-winning piece "Release of Anger" from 1984, not that you'd know by listening to it.

It's the 1980s and commercially-bought cassettes last almost an hour. Time passes in repeating fragments that change only subtly - melting, dissolving, into the background.

The Drone at the End of the World

(Remixed May 2020 for extra nuance and warmth.

Every sound on this album comes from a piano.

The original source of this music is a short piece I wrote in the early 1990s. Performed on an Amiga and a Yamaha Clavinova, it was recorded to cassette and then uploaded 25 years later for further tinkering.*

Each iteration of Slow Pianos adapts the progression and tones of the original in different ways, creating slow pulses that I have worked and slept with until their rhythms became such a part of my life that I was reluctant to let them go.

Here they are. I hope you find these works as calming yet stimulating as I do.
