With this first, eponymous single, we are proud to introduce the blazingly frenetic, techno- chromatic, jolting and stirring world of RKDIA.

Danish Morten Schantz (synth+vocals) and Swedish-Norwegian Anton Eger (drums) are well-known names on the jazz and fusion scenes of Europe. For a while now, both have been pushing the envelope, applying jazz logic in all sorts of unconventional shapes and places, seeking out the new.

With RKDIA, they come together in a burst of color and rhythm. Armed with technical brilliance and a penchant for the epic, the duo spin up forceful and hypnotic works that inject the free kinetic of jazz into synth-based electronica and cascading power pop.

With sprawling melody and syncopated beats, the sound lives intensely in its own zone, a (dare we say) completely original place. One minute it goes to the body in repetitive grooves like house music. The next, it envelops you in warm- blooded synth-pop pathos.

All this is on full display on this first single, RKDIA. Eger’s quick paced, whirling drums, switching the gears of Schantz’ harmonic riffs that swell and soar into winged crescendos.

Leaf Syndrome was the 2nd single from Iain Howie's debut album, Patterns (released June 11th, 2021).

It was serviced to college radio as a "dual single" along with "Patterns where it was the # 2 Most Added on the NACC Electronic Chart (tied with The Chemical Brothers and Bicep). Jason Bentley debuted Leaf Syndrome on KCRW during his "Metropolis" set on April 24th 2021.

"This track is a reflection on my relationships and of being in the confused, purgatory state of being in love. It's easy to give relationship advice, but once you're in it, you're fucked. Emotions are flying high and you don’t think straight. The song happened quickly for me. I just remember my intention was to write a good pop song" xo Iain

‘Red Geranium’ is the new single from Chris Coco’s EP ‘We Are All Connected’ which we will be releasing on 7th July. 
This floating and nostalgic track was inspired by the beautiful red geranium - those strong and long-suffering plants that sit out the winter on our windowsill. They never stop flowering, they never complain, they are ever beautiful. 

Chris is joined on this track by long term friend and musician Nick Cornu who is responsible for the exquisite guitar playing.

Solar Storm warmly welcomes the latest addition to the artist roster; Universal Solution. The Manchester based Gavin Holland has been releasing deep and luscious tracks since the early 2000's. His work can be found on renowned labels such as Anjunadeep, Silk Music and Colorize, to name a few. He has delivered a two track single entitled 'Ischia' consisting of one original and a ambient chill out version.

The cosmic journey kicks off with the Ischia Original mix. Ascending synth arpeggios along with sweeping ethereal pads lift the atmosphere up. The melodic elements progressively rise and fall, dancing around the spectrum. Refreshingly deep chords glide along the dreamy airspace. The drum rolls and percussion keep things moving along and the energy alive.

The release is accompanied with an ambient stripped back version, full of wide spanning pads and a rhythm that rocks forward and back with a new snare tone and sound effects.

Overall this is a great uplifting debut release from Universal Solution.

Universal Solution - Ischia (Ambient Version) [CLIP]

Time feels relative these days - so let's stretch it a bit as we take the new year as a moment of reflection of what happened and where we head next. This is a musical call for meditation and contemplation and therefore a mixtape that's totally different from the ones I usually provide here. And I invite everybody to follow it.

Those 100 minutes provide a glimpse into some of my most loved ambient sounds of recent time, including personal favourites from Andy Stott, Burial, Hælos, Rival Consoles, Diskret, Julianna Barwick and more. It starts quite gentle, then takes a dark twist only to end on a more optimistic and uplifting note ... which will hopefully happen in a similar way once we leave this second pandemic winter. Point Zero is an invitation to slow things down and I hope you enjoy this slightly different ride with me in a similar way like my usual mixes. May your personal reflections lead you to a good 2022. I'll leave you with a quote from the wonderful Damien Jurado who also shows up towards the end of this selection.
