Commissioned by the Regulus, ~Nois, Donald Sinta, Kenari, Mirasol, Uproar, Cerulean, and Khroma Quartets (consortium commission)

Program note:
We are always moving, whether it be through space, time, or emotions. This perpetual motion allows us to constantly evolve, bringing us new experiences that keep informing our ever-changing values and identities. eastbound portrays how sometimes we cannot perceive this motion or we take it for granted. Inspired by train sounds, the piece recreates the buzzing of an engine’s hum and the roar of its horn to reimagine a train ride as a metaphor for our everyday forward motion through life.

Many thanks to the Regulus Quartet, Donald Sinta Quartet, ~Nois, Kenari Quartet, Mirasol Quartet, Uproar Quartet, Cerulean Quartet, and Khroma Quartet for commissioning this piece.

"La soirée dans Granada" and "Jardins sous la plume" from Debussy's Estampes are performed by pianist Jani Parsons in a live-concert recording on Sept. 24, 2018 celebrating 100 years since Debussy's death.
