Walker is the second album by Leeds/Bradford quartet NOPE, progressing the themes and aesthetic of 2012’s highly-praised debut Revision. Featuring family faces from the North UK DIY/independent music scene - including Andy Abbott of That Fucking Tank, Jon Nash of Hookworms/Cowtown, and Steve Nuttall of Mucky Sailor.

Nope - The Event

In the early summer of 2013, Blood Sport and Azores spent a weekend in the Audacious Space, jamming together - two drummers, 1 bass, 1 baritone, 2 guitars and vocals, all live. The results were recorded and warped by Ben Hunter (Pagan Condo), and have remained unreleased and unheard... until now. 

This track will also feature on the ridiculous TAAE ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER AUDIT 2015 comp, which will be available for 'pay what you want' download from the 26th Jan 2015, via our bandcamp site.

Mathy pop punk with Cork accents and a serious case of the jerky jangles. Together as a Yorkshire-based music group since early 2016, Eimear O’Donovan (bass, vocals), Brian Scally (drums, vocals) and Chris Saywell (guitar, vocals) have been making modest waves in the DIY scenes of their adopted cities of Sheffield and Leeds. Thirsty is the band’s second EP, following on from self-released debut EP FETCH! in August 2016. 

Self-recorded and produced by Scally, with drums tracked at Crooked Rain Studios, new EP Thirsty sees Ganglions expand their pallet of expression while keeping the riffs, off-kilter song structures and powerful dual vocals that made FETCH! really shine. Lead single “Slow Lunch” is a shimmering, emo-tinged punk anthem dedicated to sacking it off. Elsewhere, “My Wife Won’t Stop Flirting With Me,” showcases the band’s heavier side, with tongue-in-cheek lyrics inspired by spam e-mails and clickbait listicles taking down the glorification and commodification of heteronormative monogamy. “Very Popular” is a jangly paean to authenticity and expression, and “Peas” is about peas, the vegetable.

London-based Canadian artist Jenny Moore (Charismatic Megafauna, MUSARC choral collective, F*Choir) and her rabble rousing vocal ensemble present a testament to the intimacy and intensity of communal singing, on a choral-punk album of epic scope. 

With raucous maelstroms, droning incantations, sweet solos and meditative murmurs, Mystic Business encompasses the macro and the micro, the political and personal, the ancient and modern: from philosophy to Mini Cheddars, ‘who’s God?’ to clickbait, the apocalyptic to the small human drama. 

Gang yells, rounds, stamp-claps and hot breaths shift to exhilarating choral arrangements that are complex but compulsively sing-along-able and catchy as hell. These are fortifying mantras to fall back on in uncertain moments: ‘We quit!’, ‘We want our bodies back!’, ‘I don’t want to choose you/I don’t want to choose anything!’, or ‘We are terrified… We are angry… We are hopeful… We are on the internet’. 

Featuring a host of voices from the capital’s contemporary music scene, including members of Trash Kit, Deep Throat Choir, Regrouping, Dr Peabody and Bamboo, new single ‘Sandwiches’ is a defiant swipe at the age-old behaviour that suggests women are on call all the time – that they’re here to serve and make things right. Or find something that no one else can be bothered to look for. 

Jenny says “This is my mantra for exhaustion, an assertion of my own tempo and rhythm, a reminder that I need to eat too, not just feed and produce.”

A Manchester via Sheffield transplant since last year, Clemency earnestly reflects her past and present. Taking influence from her beginnings in the power electronics and noise scene, her sound touches on a variety of club genres, bottling the dark components of grime, techno, footwork, and ballroom with a generous topping of rap and familiar pop. She sandwiches sweet lullabies and anthemic lyrics with unsettling beats and unconventional musical backdrops, uniting noir and twisted emotions with frenetic percussion and beatless moments of grandeur.
