Imagine happening into a Tibetan buddhist temple high in the Himalayas, the inner space dark except for some altar candles and a few narrow shafts of light passing through small windows higher up. The temple is filled with incense smoke. It feels like you have stepped out of time into another world. In the dim light a large number of monks are seated facing the altar. They are performing a ritual chant in which the mantra is the first line of The Beatles' song "Tomorrow Never Knows." Deep voices center loosely on a drone note, and occasional overtones resonate within the sacred space; ecstatic voices ebb and flow; sometimes individuals are heard, other times the chants coalesce in unison. Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dying.

This crazy little track began as a microphone testing project that turned into a tribute to John Lennon's initial concept for the song "Tomorrow Never Knows" (on The Beatles album "Revolver"). John said that he wanted the song to sound like 500 Tibetan monks chanting. The Beatles version didn't quite realize that exact vision, although they achieved perhaps even greater things through the use of tape loops and other experimental techniques, becoming an iconic track on The Beatles' "Revolver" album as well as a classic psychedelic standard.

It is a great honor to introduce this special musical project set to the powerful and beautiful poetry of the extraordinary Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. This work was made possible with the kind permission of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation.
I want to give special thanks to the remarkable soprano Maribel Villarroel, whose stunning voice gave life and soul to each piece. Her deeply personal interpretation and awe-inspiring vocals brought authenticity and passion to this music. I am equally grateful to the brilliant pianist and arranger René Calderón, whose sensitivity and artistry are infused into every note. Their talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit have taken this project to levels I could only dream of as a composer.
Gabriela Mistral’s poems speak to the heart with timeless emotion, strength, and depth. Creating music for her words was both a challenge and a privilege, an emotional journey that led us to deep connections with her legacy and message.
The visual side of this release is also something I’m excited to share. The album cover was created by the outstanding Chilean artist Giovanni Gellona, whose artwork beautifully reflects the emotion and atmosphere of the music and Mistral’s poetry, and projects both her dignity and lovingness.
This album is not just a musical interpretation; it is a tribute to Chilean culture, poetry, and artistic collaboration. I hope listeners around the world can feel the love, effort, and respect behind every note.
I invite you to experience Gabriela Mistral’s poetry through this musical lens and share it with others who might be moved by it.

Music has always been a fundamental part of my life, even if not always at the immediate forefront of my activities. I've studied classical guitar, and had some keyboard lessons early in life, unfortunately from an uninspiring teacher. I disappointed my guitar instructor when I bought my first electric guitar. In the late 70s through the 80s I played with friends in various bands with varying levels of ability and seriousness. During the 90s and into the 2000s I focused my life on other things. Then, beginning about 2015, I began building up a home studio, trying to renew my ability to play multiple instruments, and working on writing and recording my own music as a creative outlet. I've always enjoyed writing, and want to become better at integrating music and words to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions in a way that others might appreciate. Good music has the power to move people, to communicate at a deeper level than words alone. I hope I can create some music that others might consider good! Also, It's just damn fun to rock out and create new things. I plan to work up a coherent set of tunes to play live and record for the world to hear, or at least a few people!
