Imagine happening into a buddhist temple high in the Himalayas, the inner space dark except for some altar candles and a few narrow shafts of light passing through small windows higher up. The temple is filled with incense smoke. It feels like you have stepped out of time into another world. In the dim light a large number of monks are seated facing the altar. They are performing a ritual chant in which the mantra is the first line of The Beatles' song "Tomorrow Never Knows." Deep voices center loosely on a drone note, and occasional overtones resonate within the sacred space; ecstatic voices ebb and flow; sometimes individuals are heard, other times the chants coalesce in unison. Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dying. 

All play the game existence to the end of the beginning.

This crazy little track began as a microphone testing project that turned into a tribute to John Lennon's initial concept for the song "Tomorrow Never Knows" (on The Beatles album "Revolver"). John said that he wanted the song to sound like 500 Tibetan monks chanting. The Beatles version didn't quite realize that exact vision, although they achieved perhaps even greater things through the use of tape loops and other experimental techniques, becoming an iconic track on The Beatles' "Revolver" album as well as a classic psychedelic standard.

Dark, passing thunderstorms
What I felt.

Feeling unsettled, uncelebratory, 
lonely, unfocused, 
anxious about the future of life, 
about this nation's state.

Feelings reflected in the low grinding clouds of dark storms crawling 
over the distant city skyline,
lighting bolts, cloud flashes, 
attacking, slashing,
murky rain squelching fireworks displays.

They tried, but who was watching anyway? The finale, doused somewhere in rain cloud, 
puny compared to nature's violent power, 
No f*cks given for our human world.

No f*ks given for our pathetic society, 
sick with self hatred, other-hatred, 
tearing itself apart 
because some sick mofos 
can't think for their hate and rage.

The sickness in the soul, 
fear and loathing the voice 
driving their insane self-dealt right 
to kill, destroy, tear down 
some other person's life. 
Not people. Objects. Targets. 

F*king amendment. Supreme f*kups.
Foolish desperate clinging to anachronistic words, historical flukes, 
to justify hate-filled headfuls 
of deluded imaginings already in place,
only needing an imprimatur, 
a holier, truer, better than thou fantasy 
from the mists of a different time.

So sick of what this Place has become
so sick of the killing, the mayhem, 
the apathy, the inaction.
Lying liars making excuses,
Accepting slaughter for sake of cash?

Sick of regression, 
spit-filled reactionaries 
hate your type of freedoms,

Hey…. Did this song go in so many directions until this final recording. It started as an electric slide song, then a mandolin song, and finally as an acoustic guitar/recorder song. You know I laugh every time I play recorder. Just imagine a rough and scrappy, wild old man creating such a thing. Hahahahaha. Anyway, there are a lot of crows here. When I was working on the slide version, I heard them cawing outside as they flew by. (I scrapped my impromptu birdcall crowing on this, no one needs to hear that, not even the crows.) Lyrically the song has 2 distinct moods with some vocal transitioning. And guess what folks: As a novice singer, I can finally vibrato my voice… some more shenanigans you’ll have to put up with. Back to the crows. In town, we have a huge flock (murder) of town crows. Hundreds. They sure love fast food, and hanging out by the high school where tasty, tossed tidbits can be had. They are organized too, as if in an air force, as they are mostly wary of us humans… Finally, happy holidays to all who celebrate, and happy times to everyone else. Hope you enjoy this one. Hey… Hope all is well wherever you are. Happy Winter Solstice, Holidays, or whatever you may be up to. Thanks to all those who listened to the song I briefly posted then deleted yesterday. It had to go.  So I did this jam for my friend Joe, who died 8 years ago. Never got to say goodbye. He was always down on his luck, but somehow found something to laugh about. He knew I was a musician, so he'd leave phone messages with him banging on a chair like it was a drum as he laughed his ass off. He called me Wild Man. I basically just played some loud distorted slide on this, doing my own thing… with a ton of feedback. My music often gets loud and angsty when I am working through tough stuff in my life. So this is mostly cathartic noise. I really didn’t want to sing anything as I was pretty grumpy at the time. Feel like I should redo this with more lyrics and less distortion, when I am in a better mood. Thanks for dropping by, Mark

Billions Of Years From Now came about as I pondered this endless plight of humanity, and the apparent possibilities of our extinction by our own hands, which does seem diametrically opposed to our oft benign nature, especially during crises. These aren’t original ideas, as so many others throughout history have thought about this as well. To Love The World Anyway is a phrase that asks us to care about the world even in difficult times, through personal hardship and suffering, by accepting the world as it is. When I first heard this phrase, I laughed at its apparent, naive folly. Over the years though, as I cared for plants and animals, and helped others (often begrudgingly)… I was slowly learning about what loving the world anyway really means. It is kinda like weathering a storm, while simultaneously balancing anger and frustration with compassion and unconditional love. Being a parent has taught me a lot about this as well. In other news… we just endured a powerful winter blizzard, with heavy snow, and strong winds that caused a lot of snow drifting. The best drift in the yard was in my driveway. It is 4 feet deep. After the storm blew through, the temps dropped to well below zero. I was outside shoveling for a good part of the day. A neighbor with a backhoe was plowing out our drifted-in road, and was making a few 15 foot piles of snow along the way. Some of us were essentially snowed in. There are thick ice jams on the roof which have revealed another place I’ll need to patch this spring. During the winter, I usually go up on the roof and shovel the deep snow off of it. Later that day, I put extra forage out for the animals, and noticed one rabbit had holed up underneath an old couch I have outside on the porch. The local elk herd (Wapiti) is down out of the mountains now. The herd can be seen in the hay fields just down the road from here. They head for the windswept, south facing knolls, and it is fascinating to see how they survive in this harsh climate. Once in a late night blizzard, I had to stop on the road, and was engulfed in the elk herd as they passed by. There were a hundred or so in the herd. Well, hope you like this song. It is a great honor to introduce this special musical project set to the powerful and beautiful poetry of the extraordinary Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. This work was made possible with the kind permission of the Gabriela Mistral Foundation.
I want to give special thanks to the remarkable soprano Maribel Villarroel, whose stunning voice gave life and soul to each piece. Her deeply personal interpretation and awe-inspiring vocals brought authenticity and passion to this music. I am equally grateful to the brilliant pianist and arranger René Calderón, whose sensitivity and artistry are infused into every note. Their talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit have taken this project to levels I could only dream of as a composer.
Gabriela Mistral’s poems speak to the heart with timeless emotion, strength, and depth. Creating music for her words was both a challenge and a privilege, an emotional journey that led us to deep connections with her legacy and message.
The visual side of this release is also something I’m excited to share. The album cover was created by the outstanding Chilean artist Giovanni Gellona, whose artwork beautifully reflects the emotion and atmosphere of the music and Mistral’s poetry, and projects both her dignity and lovingness.
This album is not just a musical interpretation; it is a tribute to Chilean culture, poetry, and artistic collaboration. I hope listeners around the world can feel the love, effort, and respect behind every note.
I invite you to experience Gabriela Mistral’s poetry through this musical lens and share it with others who might be moved by it.

Slava Ukraïni to listeners in Ukraine. Your cause is just.

Music has always been a fundamental part of my life, even if not always at the immediate forefront of my activities. I've studied classical guitar, and had some keyboard lessons early in life, unfortunately from an uninspiring teacher. I disappointed my guitar instructor when I bought my first electric guitar. In the late 70s through the 80s I played with friends in various bands with varying levels of ability and seriousness. During the 90s and into the 2000s I focused my life on other things. Then, beginning about 2015, I began building up a home studio, trying to renew my ability to play multiple instruments, and working on writing and recording my own music as a creative outlet. I've always enjoyed writing, and want to become better at integrating music and words to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions in a way that others might appreciate. Good music has the power to move people, to communicate at a deeper level than words alone. I hope I can create some music that others might consider good! Also, It's just damn fun to rock out and create new things. I plan to work up a coherent set of tunes to play live and record for the world to hear, or at least a few people! 

I ignore bots and fake messages about my uploads and offers to promote my music. If you're not real and honest, I have no time for you.
